Sounds done to me .

Towell Posted on 25/7 13:04
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

I think they might be considering putting arca at left back or someone other than Taylor since they've said that Taylor played more games than they wanted him to last season.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Now time to sort the midfield and attack out .

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Not a chance of Arca playing left back. Poga maybe eventually to keep him happy but I would expect the back four to start as:

Young Woody Poga Taylor.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Towell

I know what you mean but i think he made it his own the left back spot as did Arca the left centre midfield position .

Towell Posted on 25/7 13:07
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Love the way everyone has written Arca off as a full-back because he had a bad game there when he had a broken foot.

Taylor seriously needs to improve his decision making, like when he tried to backheel the ball on the volley out of his own penalty area.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

M_K

Do you honestly think that Poga will keep Huth out when both fully fit?.

captain5 Posted on 25/7 13:08
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Towell, I don't think it was meant as a bad thing; it was more that he played a lot more than they had initially thought he would be able to.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Taylor played more games than they'd have liked him to, but, I think he exceeded their expectations, and I think he's made himself first choice now.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Looks like Yakubu is going though:

Meanwhile, Southgate shrugged off the latest rash of press reports suggesting Manchester City, Portsmouth or even Birmingham City could be planning formal bids for top striker Yakubu.

"I've had a chat with him again today and he's very happy," he revealed. "We've had no contact from any other club and nor would we welcome any.

"As far as we're concerned he's our player, he's in training with us and he seems very settled"

Player - happy
manager - happy
club - happy

bound to mean a sale is about to happen

I haven't wrote him off as left back but he's made centre midfield left his own .

Towell Posted on 25/7 13:12
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

We'll see, I'd much rather see Taylor or Arca at LB than Pogatetz which is a step back in my opinion it's like playing davies at RB. Touch to the left and hoof.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Towell

I agree with that Poga is not a left back neither is Davies a right back.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

I'd give Pog the nod with Woody in the centre, at least to start with. Arca was more useful in midfield, would be surprised to see him back in defence.

Would you really Poga the nod ahead of Huth when both fully fit?.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Arca was never an orthadox full back to me.

I had him down as a wing back, but after last season it looks best centre left midfield. His distribution impressed me alot, he sees angles quickly and in general can put the ball in the right place. He also has alot of energy and keeness.

Where it was weak was when defending when he can be a bit sloppy and weak in the air. I am not so much looking at the Reading game. look at goals we conceded at Spurs. I can see him being our Frank Lampard.

Taylor struggled a little is the latter half of the season, He is still developing though.

Davies for me was never a natural right back nor Xavier and Parnaby was too slow although the best of the 3, so if Young comes I think we will see an improvement at RB from last season.

MarkW_21 Posted on 25/7 14:07
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Taylor struggled in the latter part of the season due to an in-grown bone on his left toe. When he broke through, he wasn't expected to play as many games as he did. Due to Arca's injury, he had a stroke of luck, clearly made the position his own and is now our first choice LB.

Arca, IMO, was an excellent signing by Southgate and is now our first choice CM.

As for CB, Pogatetz will probably be our first choice to start alongside Woodgate, even when Huth is fully fit. For Huth to replace Pogatetz, He'll need a run in the side, which will come courtesy of either Pogatetz being banned or injured, other than that, Huth will struggle for chances this season.

re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Mark

I agree till Poga and Huth but thats what will most probably happen like you said, but it's good to have competition

zaphod Posted on 25/7 14:29
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Poga and Woodgate have developed a good partnership, which is essential in the centre of defence. Huth hasn't had that chance, so he must be further down the pecking order, waiting for a Poga suspension or a Woodgate injury. It doesn't matter that he's potentially a better player than Poga: the partnership's the thing.

John_boro Posted on 25/7 15:12
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Taylor had an excellent start, and even when his form dropped, he was still average at worst. I think we only saw form frop due to him being one of the most regular features of the side, and that can take a huge effect on a young, 19 year old in his first full season. This season he will be more experienced and will be able to develop his partnership with downing and arca. I think if we had another half decent left back last season who could have played a few games to keep taylor fresh, then taylor performances wouldnt have dropped

rozi Posted on 25/7 15:39
re: YOUNG DEAL ALMOST DONE.

Well, some of our lads are working at Stadium at the moment and it's something they picked up on and let us know about it. They have been known to wind me up at times though, just cos I take it all in like a sweaty sock (as my kids tell me constantly). The mention on Sky Sports seems to add credibility as well.
