| Smoking ban problem | |
One unexpected consequence (for me, at least) of the smoking ban occured to me the other day. I travel around the country in my job and often stop at a cafe/coffee shop at lunchtime for a bit of bait. When it's sunny I usually try and find a table outside, but since the ban you can't move for bleeding smokers puffing away. All the tables outside are full of wheezing idiots tipping ash into over flowing ash trays. So, as a non-smoker, I have no choice but to sit inside in the stifling heat (rare this summer, I grant you), and boil away while I down my tikka sarnie and pot of tea. Bring back smoking inside so I can sit outside again!

Nah just make smokers sit on the grass or stand in the street.

I would'nt worry to much about it, wont be long before this dictatorship of a goverment bans smoking altogether, along with drinking, driving, socialising in any form, gathering in a crowd of more than 2 people, holidaying abroad, foook me, they'll be oulawing laughing before long...i feel for the young'uns of today i really do. I cant imagine what this country will be like in 20 years time.

Don't be daft MM.........smoking in public places needed to be made illegal, for the sake of the 70% of us who don't smoke.

for the record TMM, i dont smoke, and i agree, smoking inside public buildings should'nt be allowed, but make no mistake, the banning of it in public places is only the begining, it WILL be banned altogether, and so will alchol, then what? anything this dictatorship decides is not in "our" interests?..were will it end..any form of enjoyment that includes a risk to our health will be fair game....people need an escape from reality at times, and unfortunately for many, that involves taking risks with thier health .....nanny state...and its getting worse!

I'm a non-smoker (and have never smoked) but I have a small amount of sympathy for smokers. When it is pissing it down the majority of non-smokers are laughing at the smokers standing outside in the rain. When it is sunny they want smokers inside so that they can enjoy the good weather outside.

Some people will never be happy, the smokers had to deal with it,and so will you !

smoking will never be totally banned, the government would lose out on to much tax money!

They'd have to make £10 billion or so. I'd imagine they'd just reduce the tax allowance for everyone.

There's going to be a lot of unforeseen (not properly thought through) negatives as a consequence of the smoking ban, mainly to non-smokers. I for one came out of the Post Office (Norton) the other day and was confronted by a group of men stinking of booze and smoke, I had to wait for people coming the other way before getting past by which time I had a good lung full of smoke which would ordinarily have been confined to the pub. I should point out that these blokes were not drunk or aggressive in any way - at least this time, but this new and very dodgy law has put them on the street creating a potential flash point for confrontation and in full view of young children who would not usually see how sad bored people spend their days. I guess this is just another example of over zealous dictatorial politics. --- Post edited by Easy_Livin on 29/7 22:22 ---

Livin, I know what you mean. The other thing I was thinking was that people are more likely to leave their drinks 'with someone' as I guess they will not be allowed to take them outside in some places. A pretty dangerous thing to do with these sick fookers dropping pills into lasses drinks.

You must be mad, wanting to sit and eat outside near the roads and the biggest pollution makers in modern history running past you. All these anti smokers will be walking about with masks on if they were really concerned about the smell and the need for fresh air, because if you live in a town you got no chance. Oh and by the way I don’t smoke or drive but I would much prefer to smell cigarette smoke than car fumes.

CatchDabus: I think you will find that arguably the worst pollution in recent and general history comes from erupting volcano's and undersea volcanic fissures in the sea bed. The contribution from engines overall (not specifically the car) is minute when compared with natural phenomenon along the earth's timeline. And comparing the events of the last 70 years with those of the last couple of million, the car couldn't possibly have had any effect on the earth's climate whatsoever. Now what was I saying about Norton High Street.
