Boro Tipped to go down

by Alvin MArtin on Talksport last night. Or rather they were one of the 5 clubs he thinks are in danger of relegation. Others were Wigan, Bolton, Man City and Sunderland.

I also notice that Corals have us as 4-1 to go down, which is the same as Sunderland.

re: Boro Tipped to go down

Wait for Football Focus, Crooks will have us down by xmas.

There will be a lot of humble pie eaten in may.

TheSmogMonster Posted on 30/7 8:49
re: Boro Tipped to go down

I can't really see us or City going down. I don't think Bolton or Sunderland will either.

Theres a perception in the media we've lost a ton of players (Viduka) and not signed anyone, not really true is it.

For me its from Reading (out of steam and no Sidwell), Birmingham, Wigan, Derby (how did he miss that one?) and Fulham.

I think you could make a case for half the teams in the league to get relegated this season though.

trodbitch Posted on 30/7 8:51
re: Boro Tipped to go down

As proven time and time again, the media just don't watch our matches. They often give out 'odd' player ratings and I've seen them mention players who didn't play. Bottom line is, they don't know half as much as they think they do about us.

Well if you will go listening to that she-ite..

re: Boro Tipped to go down

this opinion will be based on the fact that viduka has gone to newcastle and we will miss him that much, he only played for the last 2 months of last season.

re: Boro Tipped to go down

Is it too early for the old canard about there being always one team which appears safe going into freefall and falling into relegation trouble towards the end of the season?

re: Boro Tipped to go down

We'll finish top 6.

Sunderland, Newcastle and in a never been seen before precedent, only 2 teams will be relegated from the Premiership as the league decide to relegate Leeds in place.

Boro_2006 Posted on 30/7 8:57
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Roll out the so called pundits of the southern based "National" rags!
They have us in their 3 to go section every year without fail....

These so called sport journalists know fook all, we have been in the Premiership every year apart from 2 blips and consecutively for 10 years now, It wouldnt matter if we signed Messi and Ronaldinho we would be sill relegation favs with that lot.

They have lost one of their precious "London" clubs in Charlton oh how it would make me giggle if West Ham, Fulham, and someone else from Daaaawwnnnn SSSSooouuutthhh went this season!

Ahhhh big sweaty k.nackers to the southern press

Spoff_MFC Posted on 30/7 8:57
re: Boro Tipped to go down

I would expect us and Man C to be in the same group as Blackburn, Pompy, Newcastle, Everton, West Ham, Villa, Bolton that will finish 6 - 15

Going down group will be Sunderland, Birmingham, Fulham, Reading, Wigan and Derby

Oops, was a team short originally

Alvin Martin is a typical cockney coont who always tips northern sides to go down. Thinks were all running around in flat caps with ferrets up our trousers. Take no notice.

b0r0lad Posted on 30/7 8:58
re: Boro Tipped to go down

I would replace reading with derby in that group

T4Tomo Posted on 30/7 8:58

Villa, Brum and Derby are my bets for the biggest freefallers from that table Capy.

He's from Liverpool but unfortunately has been assimilated into the way of the cock-a-nee due to years playing for the cheats from the scag end of London.

We get tipped every year to go down anyway, and we always prove them wrong.

Scouse cockney!!!! Cant get much worse.

AtomicLoonybin Posted on 30/7 9:33
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Well, I dunno. At the moment I think we'll finish in about the same place as last year, and if it hadn't been for those last two wins, we'd have finished in the bottom five. If you're down there, you might be in the relegation spots come the end of the season. There was a period around Christmas last year where we were hopeless and looked down, and that was with both our two goal scorers. Only needs a bit of a longer run like that and you're in the shyt.

BossHogg Posted on 30/7 9:38
re: Boro Tipped to go down

So someone said we 'might' go down! BIG DEAL!!!!

We might go down, who knows! I hope not, but we might...

Wny do some of you people get so upset just because someone's opinion isn't the same as yours!

dave_catching Posted on 30/7 9:42
re: Boro Tipped to go down

I'm assuming he had another category of 'almost dead certs to go down' as Derby and Brum aren't in his list. That means he thinks we're going to be somewhere between about 14th and 18th which isn't that unreasonable.

I think Man City will be top half.

wilkos_perm Posted on 30/7 9:46
re: Boro Tipped to go down

people will see our team as Woody, Downing, Yakubu and some others they know nothing about. I'm sure they couldn't tell you anything about Poga, Arca, Tuncay etc.

Huan_Kerr Posted on 30/7 9:48
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Sunday Times suggested that losing Viduka, the standard of our signings and the pre-season form all mean we are in for "a season of struggle for Gareth Souhgate"

But they say that every year.

Mid table for me.

(Marlon top 6, are you still pissed?)

Max_Headroom Posted on 30/7 9:52
re: Boro Tipped to go down

The fact is, is that it is 12 days to the season and time for the pundits to make claims they won't have to back up. They don't care about 15 of the teams in the league and we're included in that group. Their only interest is ManU and Chelsea, and the Champs League spots (and Spurs).

The rest of the predictions are after thoughts made to reach word counts and meet editorial guidelines.

sasboro Posted on 30/7 10:03
re: Boro Tipped to go down

mid tables beckons..

unless of course we really do sign smith and sell the yak then thats us finishing about 14th

Boro_Owl Posted on 30/7 10:05
re: Boro Tipped to go down

9th or 11th I reckon. Then push on next year with a few more quality signings.

Boromart Posted on 30/7 10:12
re: Boro Tipped to go down

I would say at the moment about 14th (baring a major injury crisis), but if we sign Smith and Romeo Castellon or some other pacey right winger then about 9th.

tjf81 Posted on 30/7 10:20
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Boro, Sunderland, Birmingham, Fulham, Wigan, Derby, Reading and Bolton are the only ones i see as contenders to go down. Out of that group Derby are certainties followed by Scumberland and Wigan in my opinion.

sasboro Posted on 30/7 10:23
re: Boro Tipped to go down

my tips for going down are fulham, derby and wigan.

think man city and newcastle will do ok. west ham ended the season well but without tevez they might struggle but wont go down. can see bolton struggling and possible reading. sudnerland will finish below us but wont go down

ElvisRamone Posted on 30/7 10:24
re: Boro Tipped to go down

So you wouldn't include Newcastle in that list eh? Despite your paper thin defence? One or two suspensions/injuries and you're in the dwang.

tjf81 Posted on 30/7 10:27
re: Boro Tipped to go down

No Elvis Ramone and neither do you...... Not bias honest opinion.

fatharrywhite Posted on 30/7 10:29
re: Boro Tipped to go down

think for the forseeable future we'll always be in the group of teams that could go down if we got a few injuries to key players but that could be said of at least 8 clubs.

personally think we'll finish anywhere from 9th-14th next season, mainly dependent on how bothered Yakubu will be!

bandito Posted on 30/7 10:30
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Fulham, Wigan and Birmingham for me.

boroboy_uk Posted on 30/7 11:21

derby, birmingham and wigan to go down for me

bandito Posted on 30/7 11:30
re: Boro Tipped to go down

wouldnt worry too much what Alvin marin has to say. His bias to West ham is so much that he is oblivious to what is happening around him. Like most southern based radio pundits they dont do their homewrok north of the watford gap and come next april when we are safe with about 8 games spare he;ll say to jason Cundy or whoever, "did i really say that". Happens all the time.

boro74 Posted on 30/7 11:37
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Over the years we have established ourselves as a Premiership club and assembled a squad that should finish about 10th.

If we have a really good year and everything goes our way with injuries etc., and certain other clubs have a bad season, we could possibly finish 6th.

On the other hand, if we don't get the breaks, lose key players for long periods, and other teams rated below us have a good season, then we will finish about 14th.

foggonsfplandiet Posted on 30/7 12:34
re: Boro Tipped to go down

This time last year just about every "expert" tipped Boro to go down as we struggled with a rookie manager who was a nice guy but not up to management, and Newcastle to qualify for Europe.

Enough said.

sasboro Posted on 30/7 12:35
re: Boro Tipped to go down

yes and we werent fully safe until 2 games to go

foggonsfplandiet Posted on 30/7 12:41
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Hmm. Presumably then neither were Newcastle. Or Villa, another club tipped last year to do great things under Martin O'Neil.

Every year they tip Boro to go down and Newcastle to win a trophy or at least qualify for Europe.

boro74 Posted on 30/7 12:42

Yeah, and we enough points to stay up after 32 games.

ERIMUS63 Posted on 30/7 12:49

"Every year they tip Boro to go down"

I can't remember the last time 'the experts' tipped us to go down! I think Paranoia is ingrained in some of our fans!

We are known as a mid-table team and nothing else..

re: Boro Tipped to go down

I think the pundits are hilariously incompetent and the ex-footballers among them are weirdly the most incompetent of all. Alvin Martin, like many other pundits, finds it hard to face up to the fact that West Ham have bought pretty badly and Curbs is the least inspirational manager in the world. I think they'll be in big trouble.

I don't think I'd be very sanguine if I were a Barcode either. There's not much improvement in their squad so far.

RedWurzel Posted on 30/7 13:29
re: Boro Tipped to go down

BH

Racing Post definetly tipped us to go down last year. They said Southgate would not make it as a manager and it was a big mistake to appoint him. That we had only signed mediorce Arca (by early August) that JFH would be missed and that the kids were not up to it. We were 16/1 to be relegated which was long odds. It will be interesting if they put us forward for relegation again now our odds are in the 4/1 to 6/1 range for relegation.

My self I think Derby are certs, that leaves 2 from about 8 for the other spots for me in the list

Wigan
Brum
Sunderland
Fulham
Bolton
Reading
Man City
Boro

Throughout a season, luck plays a part as well as injuries etc.

The premiership will be harder this year, so it some respects if a team does as well as last year they are improving.

I would say 40pt to 52 pt range for us we have improved the squad on the right hand side and Southgate has learnt from his first 12 months.

foggonsfplandiet Posted on 30/7 23:41
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Sorry BossHogg, it's NOT paranoia; several "experts" tipped us for relegation last season and the skunks for Europe. I know - I read their articles and remembered them slaughtering Southgate and criticising Steve Gibson saying we were doomed as we'd failed to land Martin O'Neil.

The experts weren't alone; many on icteesside also did Private Frazer impersonations ("We're DOOMED I tell you....")

Wonder if these clever dicks would like to comment on last season's final placings.

Boro_Gadgie Posted on 30/7 23:48
re: Boro Tipped to go down

If we sign a right midfielder and a box to box midfielder alongside Julio, I think we can push for a UEFA spot. As these signings are looking unlikely, I think we'll be 10th. I reckon Derby, Wigan and Birmingham will go down. I think Fulham and Sunderland will struggle but stay up. I think Bolton will struggle this year.

I also reckon Pompey and Blackburn will push for a UEFA spot.

br14 Posted on 31/7 0:33
re: Boro Tipped to go down

Unfortunately I reckon West Ham will do ok. For a start getting Ashton back is like signing a new 10 million pound striker.

Curbishley may not be the worlds most inspirational manager but he kept Charlton up for years on a shoestring. Notice what happened when he left.

Corcaigh_the_Cat Posted on 31/7 7:59
re: Boro Tipped to go down

The bookies don't often stray far from the reality. Most have us down as about 7th from bottom, if we finish higher we'll have done well.
