re: ENGLAND V India (2007).

Preservation says Vaughn.

Preservation key for Vaughan
Captain Michael Vaughan is desperate to safeguard England's unbeaten home Test record with a competitive performance in the final npower Test against India.

India won the second Test at Trent Bridge by seven wickets to set up this week's series decider at the Brit Oval.

England defend a proud unbeaten home Test series record stretching back to 2001 and India attempt to claim their first series victory on English soil since 1986

Vaughan can take consolation from the fact that on the last six occasions he has suffered a defeat as captain, England have bounced back to win the next game and will be hoping it is a pattern which repeats itself on Thursday.

"It's 2001 since we last lost a series at home and that's the challenge for the week - that's what makes it a good game to play in," he said.

"How are we going to react to the pressure of being 1-0 down in the series and trying to get back to 1-1 to level it? That's a challenge we have all set ourselves this week.

"It's going to be a tough challenge but these kind of games are great because you see which players stand up to the pressure.

"In the future there will be big, big games played under a lot of pressure and this is another one and you learn a lot about your team in a week like this."

Michael Vaughan wants to see his players respond to pressure

It was indeed the White Swan - I was resident from 1994 to 1999. Not actually in the White Swan although it was pre-kids, so I spent a good while in there, it was en-route from the tennis courts to home.

Capy, I'll see your Berko and raise you Apsley.

I'll trump that with a Leighton Baines!

There was a Fullers pub in the next village, near a tennis club, used to have a great curry nite. Marston?

Last test of the summer, and we are barely into August .

One-day-cricket is rubbish. To use a fried-potato based analogy, it is a bag of salt and vinegar crisps to a test match's lovely warm bag of salted and vinegared chips.

Aye you can't have anything on the slow line. I was leaving MK as a bit too urban.

We have missed Hemel Hempstead though.

I have often (well know to be honest only once or twice) wondered why Hemel is a "stead" and Berko a "sted"?

Tomo, i disagree what we had yesterday was a good days test cricket, scores are always highish at the Oval. The bowling was ok/good for most of the day and we know the Indians are good batters.

Lets hope we can get the rest of the wickets during the afternoon so we can get our reply going.

looking forward to it...

T4Tomo Posted on 10/8 9:34
re: ENGLAND V India (2007).

I was reflecting on Prior missing a sitter and needing some awful umpiring to get 2 of our 4 wickets.

To be fair England played well compared to Yorkshire and as you say you'd expect to make a decent 1st inning score at the Oval, but it could well have been 320-2 at the close which would have been well over "par"

Matt Prior is a flipping disgrace, lets face it we not gonna get any LBWs today(following yesterdays cockups), we aint gonna catch anything so our options for getting anyone out is BOWLED or RUN OUT.

Peter Moores what a no mark!

Prior is getting murdered on TMS this time regarding the number of byes conceeded.

29 byes in this inns so far, plus the drop of Tendulker on 20(cost 62 runs), plus the drop of Laxman(cost 10 runs).

Prior goes out to bat with his score on MINUS 101 (so far).

T4Tomo Posted on 13/8 10:25
re: ENGLAND V India (2007).

No way is an England win possible - we'd have to score at virtually 5 an over all day and whilst they will have attacking fields uptil tea, if they haven't taken that many wickets by then and we are in with a shout they can easily switch to the defensive in the final session. With no field restrictions they could have 9 men on the ropes if they wish.

We subside to about 260 all out midway thru the final session, Panesar holing out in a final defiant blaze of glory.

BTW Capy - deliberate use of "uptil" there. I'm lobbying OED for its inclusion. Multi-purpose word either meaning "up until" or "(having to bowl) against the slope".

No team has ever scored even close to that number - I think the best all time 4th innings winning score is about 415.

I doubt any team has ever scored 500 in the 4th innings even to draw a game.

From the BBC :

1232 - Eng 102-2 Another maiden over of leg-spin from Kumble and, call me an old spoilsport, it would seem England are not going for the win. "How very vanilla of you," says my colleague when I tell him my favourite Girls Aloud girls are Tweedy and Coyle. He likes the ginger one as well, which starts off a Spartacus-like scene in the office with various people raising their hands and shouting "I like the ginger one!" What is wrong with this country? She looks like she's been apple-bobbing in a deep fat fryer.

Anyone else find it the ultimate irony that Geoff Boycott was telling England to 'go for it'. If he was in the team he'd be 2 not out by now.

Off for bad light now, so there is intent whatsoever by England to win this.

Exactly.

I don't suppose Bearders could tell us how often Pietersen has got out straight after getting his century, could he? Seems he does it every time Collingwood gets a first baller.

Thank you. If no more wickets fall I'm guessing they will agree a draw when it gets to 10.

re: ENGLAND V India (2007).

The trouble with that is they know 1 more wicket and then we are very weak.

Huth off double Nelson.

re: ENGLAND V India (2007).

That's a fair point but I wouldn't expect even this tail to crumble in ten overs when it is just a case of keeping the ball out. How long did Tremlett and Panesar stay together in the first innings? Guess whatever happens I'll be encountering the drunks at Vauxhall.

I'm guessing Bell will get his fifty now before England agree to call it a day.

Its worth a dabble. Similar asking rate to the 72 of 4 that Glaisdale needed until I missed a straight one. We managed 16 of the last 4 which in fairness was a poor effort
