Viduka tells Middlesbrough: Newcastle better chance of silverware tribalfooball.com - August 09, 2007 Former striker Mark Viduka has revealed he quit Middlesbrough for Newcastle on a free transfer because he wanted to end his long wait for a trophy. The 31-year-old Australian, who is considering international retirement, said: "I had to make a decision that was best for my career. Capybara beat me to it. If he'd pulled his finger out in the UEFA Final, he'd have a Winners medal on his mantelpiece. Richy, quite a lot of teams have "the potential", but very few actually get the most from their potential Cup winners. The problem with Newcastle is that the fans EXPECT the Club to win Trophies, which is a heavy burden around the Managers neck from day one. I think if you are a team outside the top 4/5, you don't expect to win Major trophies, therefore aren't under the pressure to do so. Whilst on the subject...doesn't the Viduka "I want to win Trophies", sound ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOT like the "I'd like to get Boro into Champions League positions!". Reeks of stereotypical media jargon. | |

don't think many of us EXPECT to win. a lot of us are hopeful that we will. we have best chance for a few seasons to win something. that's what i meant by potential. wrong word. sunderland have potential
