a letter of complaint will be on its way to

ron turnbull tomorrow.

having to sit in the swu next to those fans has left a major bitter taste in my mouth. listening to fully grown men singing racist songs and child abuse songs is bang out of order.
i'm all for a bit of banter but singing mido is a paedo, mido is a terrorist and something about mido and bombs, then the old "paedo" songs is going too far.
it was the same last season and something should be done about it.
i've spoken to a steward today and a police officer and they both said a letter to turnbull should be sent asap. then turnbull will send a letter of complaint to nufc, rasism commitee and to uefa, uefa will then look in to it and if nesicary, fine nufc and reduce allocation of tickets.
at the moment, club stewards and police cannot monitor 3000 fans as its too hard with so little staff but if the allocation is reduced to 1000 it will be alot easier to stop these chants and get the idiots who start these songs, out.

If every one sends a letter of complaint it will look better than just one letter
Well said rick

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

hey the lads on here are great for a bit of banter but that today was bang out. proper nufc fans will no doubt have nothing to do with these chants, but that lot who were there today need banning. it wasnt the minority either, it was a most of them.

smog_mfc Posted on 26/8 16:49
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Got my backing Rick

There's friendly banter but they always have to go to far!!!

Like someone said on a different post. Its as bad as monkey chants.

It's a different sort of racism. Bombs, terrorist and peado.

Just no need of it.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

so are we all in agreement that we as fans need to do something about it.
why should we have to listen to that kind of stuff at a football match? the only way to do it is complain.

also memarkpage asked them to sit down a few times, but did they no. thats not a problem, but man utd have had their ticket allocation reduced, why not nufc?

There is no room in football for that, no room at all, and your supporters really show an example of what Newcastle is all about. A city full of morons, most of whom have no idea who Marietta Higgs was.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

As i've said on previous posts...

Im not justifying this BUT (where everone sighs!)...

Its a football match. If you cant live with this sort of thing then dont go. I've been to all sorts of grounds through out Europe and its the same everywhere including your fans who sang about gas chambers to spurs fans and came on the NUFC board when that lass got taken from her bath in North Tyneside. Your anger will not allow you to see through it at the moment. But in a nutshell football match is not a place for sensitive souls.

If we all go round writing letters to authorities then where the hell are we going to be. Its a place men go to be men. If you dont like that then just dont go - plenty of you dont anyway (sorry cheap shot but hopefully you take my point).

okay so the Noocastle fans called Mido some nasty names.

Its a freaking football match ffs.

When theres kids getting stabbed almost daily, you lot want to send out an arrest warrant for every newcastle fan today, get a flippin life, its words, they dont hurt anyone, nobody is emotionally scarred for life, or dead. END OF

All this stuff about playing behind closed doors or limiting fans, what had your lot done, to limit them to 10,000k

You see the easiest thing would have been to outsing them, then you could simply not here them, but bar the dodgy siren noise you seem to make (du duh duh duh) thats about it, and considering its piped in with music i wouldnt say its too impressive.

Jillian Posted on 26/8 18:27
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Those saying its just typical football banter need to have a reality check. Football today is a family orientated spectator sport. There would have been kids at that match, both young Boro and Newcastle fans going to watch their team play, some possibly for the first time. Why should they have to be subjected to that vile?

The people singing those disgusting songs and making the racisit remarks are the real child abusers in all of this.

I really hope BOTH clubs come out in solidarity in condemning the newcastle fans' behaviour. Newcastle supporters seem to think its still the 1980's. Thank goodness you're the only ones who do this at the Riverside so the families watching home games aren't subjected to it week in week out. Even the mackems have the decency to keep their banter with us football-related.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Jillian

Are the majority of boro fans not equally as 'guilty' for calling viduka a fat bas.tard? Or is it selective what you find offensive?

Its a passionate thing football, part of football has always been about winding the opposing fans up. Maybe you are a premier league convert, football was about a long time before sky and the premiership and part of the day was always about taunting the opposition.

I hear they are nicer at tennis matches perhaps that should be where you take tobias and sebastian next time.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Mido got a lot of stick from the Newcastle fans during the game. The irony is he scores and gets a yellow card for celebrating. Yet it appears the fans can get away with anything.

I accept that football is passionate, but where is the line. Let's face it, if we took a some of Boro song literally we could be accused of genocide.

Most people now realise it's not acceptable to use racist chants during matches. I would guess that most of the geordies who sang those chants gave it a bit of thought, they would realise it was out of order.

smallmindedcranks Posted on 26/8 18:39
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Have you been to many away games jillian? I have seen boro fans taunting man utd fans about munich, liverpool fans for being murderers, tottenham fans for being jewish, it happens it is to get a rise from the opposition and as such a wind up, sticks and stones...

graceland, shez:
sort it out!
There's no way that peado or terrorist chants can go unpunished!
Banter yes, racism no. The reason is that letting these things go IS condoning it, encourages it, and promotes an atmosphere where the next step - i.e violence is both more likely and more acceptable. For the good of the boro, the toon, and the uk in general these ars.s need to be shown it's not acceptable: neither by your away fans or ours.
So get on, write a letter: I'd love to see the barcodes locked out! Howay, feck off back to your own board an cry about fat Sam's lame long ball b*lls*t!!

You know NedKat your just the type of bandwagon jumping arsew1pe i hate. You know theres anymosity between the teams anyway and just jump in there with words like ignorant and muppet to make people have the same hatred as yourself. You'll prtend to be all shocked at this chanting and then sit back watch the tele and think mildly right wing thoughts whilst tossing off over your internet porn made in a third world country. I didnt come on these sites for a long time because of people like you. Thankyou ill leave now and not be back. To the rest of you normal people from both clubs i wish you luck and all the enjoyment in the future - try not to take everything at a match to heart. And watch out for people with wooden spoons....

I agree really with the letter, calling somoeone a peado is not a very nice thing to say when your talking to someone one on one but to have a thousand or so grown men chanting it is not very nice

There is taking the mickey and banter but going as far as the peado chant is wrong, I could hear that chant when watching the game on the net but didnt hear the Bombs chants

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

I'm talking about the pedo chants. Has as been said over and over again (but you fail to grasp) there are some lines you do not cross. Are you are trying to justify the disgraceful antics of your 'support' just because other clubs' fans call someone fat?

You're really are deluded!

Anyway I'm fed up trying to get across to you why your fans are out of order. You are obviously not mature enough to understand.

Shez, were you born in 78 ? The first game I went to see at Ayresome Park was in 1967, so please have the dignity to stop the bandwagon references.
My point (if it went over your head the first time) concerns one certain type of chanting that your supporters seem to think is acceptable. It's the paedophile references that I don't like, and it's those chants that I want to see banned from any stadium in Britain. There is no need for it, it's 25 years out of date, and it's about time somebody did something about it. You seem to condone it, that's why I think your an ignorant moron ....

Don't throw insults around if you can't back them up.

I see, so fattism is ok but racism and paedophile chants arent?

"The people singing those disgusting songs and making the racisit remarks are the real child abusers in all of this."

Maybe you should write a do's and dont for football fans, you can call someone's parentage in to question and slag him off due to a physical characteristic but you cant call someone a terrorist because he comes from a muslim country.

Any other 'gems'?

The depths of hypocrisy, so if i started saying to someone "are you that paki - were you the one who sold me that dodgy curry?"

would that be any different?(yes i know it is generally indian or bangledesh curries sold in this country, in case anyone wanted to be pedantic)

Is it ok to label fat people thiefs? Is it ok to slag off people because the weigh more than average? You have a selective choice of what is abusive and what isnt, some fat people top themselves due to just this sort of abuse, maybe you ought to consider what you preach before you spout your crap?

well after reading all the posts on this thread i am astounded by some newcastle fans trying to excuse those chants.

the end of the day, we all go to football matches to
1. have a good day out
2. let off some steam
3. have a few pints
4. have a bit of banter with away fans
5. WATCH FOOTBALL

now where in that list does racism or child abuse come?

we got to have a good day out, not to sing songs about a players nationality or the fact that some idiots have realised that mido rhymes with paedo.
its a disgrace that some complete idiots make up a song during the match, yet the other away fans dont stop the chants, they join in. grown up men and women singing songs about mido being a paedo, terrorist and calling him a bomber.

but you did get it right, mido terrorized your defence.

a simple way to stop these idiots(all 3000 of them) is to ban newcastle from bringing fans to the riverside until they learn

Right o
Never saw the game today as I had a cup final
However, the fans that sang these songs should be locked out of football grounds for life, end of...
But a couple of points
a) not every fan in that away end will be guilty of singing those songs
b) why tar all Geordies with that brush? Calling all Geordies scum (as has been done further up this thread) is no different, to elements calling Mido a terrorist etc. These people are not supporters in my eyes, I take it many forget that Emre is in fact Muslim also, and I think problem is due to the history of off the field problems between the two clubs then people wishing to bring back these days or being taught that those were "good old days" will inevitably bring up the attitudes of 20 years ago

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way

Rick thats my point, the majority will not be fans, rather those looking to recreate the early 80s...
Those who are still small brained enough to hold grudges and want to fight, and probably do fight.
I know of a few people in the crowd who I normally go to games with, I'll ask them about it but I don't think they would ever condone or join in.
They are the lowest of the low yes, and I do think that all clubs have them, whether it range from the likes of fans taunting ManUSA about Munich, or Liverpool about Hillsborough. There is some sort of shameful/sad episode in every clubs support, and some people think fit to prey on this as "banter".
Possibly the best way is to write in about something like this, but not make it public, discuss through text message etc - it then means these people have not succeeded or they don't think they have succeeded in what they set out to do.
Just wondering, as some have mentioned about having kids at the game with them, do they complain when the opposition fans swear?

rick4974 Posted on 26/8 20:55
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

what like it happened last season too.

take you on a trip to last season at the riverside.

game goes ok, lots of paedo songs doing the rounds from the newcastle fans. game ends, we all know the result, the fans make their way home. so, i'm waiting in kwik cars(now tees) carpark waiting for my taxi(1 hour wait). if you dont know where it is, its situated next to the away fans coach car park. anyway, up come the newcastle fans singing and shouting at young children about special bedtimes with their daddies. there was quite a lot of newcastle fans in our car park and they were all apologizing for their fans behaviour. so there is about 20 lads stood at the wire fencing in between car parks shouting about us shagging our kids and being abused when we were children, when 6 burly lads walked in to our car park.
instantly they got abuse, "go on ya pervert, go fiick ya kids". 1 lad turned round and opened his jacket, only to reveal a newcastle united shirt, all 6 lads were jawdees. the lads on the otherside strted calling them traitors and were telling them to do us or fiick off home and fiick your kids.

so its not a 1 off from these idiots, so how can it be condoned?

albo87 Posted on 26/8 21:05
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Good post rick4974. My letter's just gone in via the club website.

It's good to see that not many on here are trying to defend such vile chanting, but those that are are really scraping the barrel with lines like 'it's a football match - if you can't handle the banter don't go'.

I remember when, to some, it was 'just a bit of a laugh' to chuck bananas or make monkey chants at black players. Luckily there were enough people then, black and white, who were 'oversensitive' about it and started standing up to the racists.

After today, I'm sure Mido can and will handle it. But he shouldn't have to. And calling him a terrorist isn't just a jokey pop at him - it's a shocking stereotype of Islamic/Arab people in general. The same stereotype that has led to a massive increase in violent attacks on innocent Muslims over the last few years. Just like in the 1970s - the monkey chants then were the thin end of a very ugly wedge that also include racist violence against innocent black people.

To any who want the right to express their racist bigotry, I'd say if you can't handle the fact that the football fans you mix with, and the teams you support, consist of every colour, race and nationality, then you shouldn't come to the match. Take your chants to a meeting of the extreme right - you'd be most welcome there.

rick4974 Posted on 26/8 22:02
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way

I write to you as a very upset and angry Middlesbrough FC fan.
Today(august 26th 2007) i attended my teams home game against Newcastle United with a 13:30 kick off.
From kick off to the final whistle we as fans had to endure sick chants about paedophilia and had to listen to the NUFC fans abusing our Eygptian striker Mido.
Now i am all for a bit of banter at football but what they were singing was sick and it does not belong in football or anywhere else in this world.
I suggest you take a close look at the game which was LIVE on Setanta sports and probably BBC Radio5live, then you will hear the "Mido is a Paedo", "Mido is a terrorist" and something along the lines of "Mido is a suicide bomber". So, because Mido is Eygptian does that mean its ok for these fans to decide he is a Terrorist? I dont think it is. The real issue here is the fact that it wasnt a handfull of newcastle fans singing these songs, it was a very large majority of them. Why should we as fans have to listen to this racist slur? Why should Mido?
To top it off, Mido gets booked for reacting after he scored in front of the newcastle fans. Yes Mido should have shown some restraint but would you after the abuse he has taken all game? Now we hear about kicking racism out of football every week, now we have a case of racism at the Riverside, will anything be done about it???

Now i will refer to the Paedophile chants.
Newcaste fans are refering to a case in 1987, a case involving an apparent "child abuse scandal" which was later found to be completely false.
Why should young children be subjected to "chants" of this nature, asking kids if they like their "special" bedtime with daddy?
Child abuse is a subject which should be left to the media, not football fans. These chants are not just confined to the stadium, we have to endure it on our way to the ground then even worse chanting after the game has ended.
I wont be suprised if somebody is badly injured due to this NUFC chanting.

I suggest that NUFC should have a reduced ticket allocation until they learn that racism and child abuse chanting will not be accepted in any sporting arena.
Maybe a fine will make the club find these animals and make an example of them, show them that racism/discrimiation will not be tolerated.

I expect to be kept up to speed with what you are doing to stop this disease from rearing its ugly head again.

A copy of this letter will be sent to MFC, NUFC, THE PREMIER LEAGUE and UEFA as well as Lets kick racism out of football

Huan, what you're referring to is mob mentality and 'group think'.

Proven psychological states that suggest people are more likely to go along with a group of people exhibiting a certain behaviour than if it were an individual.

It does not condone or excuse the abuse or any such act committed by a 'mob'.

90% of those Newcastle fans made the choice to sing those songs.
Being pi£sed up or part of a crowd does not condone or excuse it.

The fact that the behaviour is psychologically more likely to spread does not make it any less wrong and distasteful.

There's a line between 'funny banter' and sick/racist chants.
Those fans today made a choice to cross that line and deserve to be held accountable for their behaviour.

Grow up, some of you people wont be happy till it is like a funeral service, singing abide with me at the start of the game and then all leave quietly at the end.

Its football against your rivals, winding the opposition up is part and parcel of it, I dont imagine one of those Newcastle fans actually thought mido was a terrorist, for example.

Stop the self righteous indignation, we are equally as guilty of doing the same to other clubs fans or players, if you dont like the banter take some ear muffs and calm down you pathetic over reacting bleeding heart poncy liberals, or take up a solo sport.

War songs about Germans?

Calling le saux a homos.exual?

Calling an egyptian a terr.orist?

Calling a referee a bast.ard in black?

Any London club being a town full of rent boys?

Seems to me it is ok for our fans to say what they like but if another clubs fans to be abusive about one of ours it is moral outrage time.

The culprits can easily be identified and dealt with accordingly as it was right below the police monitoring station and is on camera, be surprised if its not taken up.

Just as I thought. You can't (or won't) answer my question.

smallmindedcranks Posted on 27/8 10:14
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

As far as I am concerned any verbal banter at a match is ok, it is a way of goading the opposition, it is a series of letters in a particular order, it doesnt mean I am going to burn a cross in my back garden or mol.est a child.

If someone decided to call me a terror.ist,pae.do,rap.ist then go for it I will respond in kind and probably end up them being wound up rather than me.

Now you answer mine.

littlejimski Posted on 27/8 10:18
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

In the context of what is socially and legally acceptable, none of those chants are as bad as racist chants, or peado chants for that matter. I don't think banana throwing and monkey noises can be accepted as 'banter' in any context.

TheSmogMonster Posted on 27/8 10:24
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

"As far as I am concerned any verbal banter at a match is ok, "

The problem you don't seem to understand mate, is just because you think its ok doesn't make it so. What an entirely pointless argument "well I don't think so".

Might be alright for you, but why should kids be subjected to it?
You're not the only person in the world and your in a clear minority of who thinks its acceptable, so maybe you should start to accept that as most people don't agree with it that that kind of behaviour is socially wrong.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

So are you saying that it is worse to be labelled with a racist label over a homophobic one? You seem to pick and choose, i thought one was as bad as the other?

TSM if you really believe that the same or worse doesnt get said to kids in the playground/streets then you are living in a different world to me.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Calling dyer a ra.pist? Wrong - libellous

Calling bramble a rapi.st? Can't remember this one, as above

Calling viduka a fat bast.ard? Banter

War songs about Germans? Cringeworthy - wrong on balance

Calling le saux a homos.exual? - Wrong - racist

Calling an egyptian a terr.orist? - Wrong - racist

Calling a referee a bast.ard in black? - Wrong, in different leagues they wear different colours.

But in all seriousness, why do you need that spelling out to you?

You're the one saying 'all verbal banter is ok' which it clearly isn't.

"TSM if you really believe that the same or worse doesnt get said to kids in the playground/streets then you are living in a different world to me."

Oh yeah good point, makes it all fine.. ffs

Police must oblige if a complaint is lodged, they are on camera and You tube by all accounts Newcastle must ban them or let the courts decide.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

TSM so singling some one out for being black or homosexual is wrong, singling someone out for being overweight is just banter?

If I could be ar.sed I could search the net and find numerous references to fat children and adults who had committed suicide due to just such remarks, as i said previously selective moral indignation seems to be the order of the day.

To come back with racist and homophobic chants are against the law is not an answer, just because something is not against the law doesnt mean that it is equally as wrong as the other.

Either none of these chants are ok in which case the boro fans are equally as guilty and shouldnt get on their high horse about it or all of them should be taken for what they are, a way of winding up the opposition.

number_10 Posted on 27/8 11:00
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way

The "Mido is a pedo" stuff is really crap banter. Childish and pathetic. You can imagine them, can't you. "hurrr hurr that rhymes leek. funny." It shows the mentality. Let them sing it if they want, it just embarrasses them.

The ones that are a very big problem is the racist chanting like "he's got a bomb", and they should have the book thrown at them for it. It's not as if it was even a minority.

People trying to justify that abuse with our fans calling viduka greedy and slightly on the rotund side should really give their heads a shake, because it is completely incomparable.

Quite a band of keyboard warriors you have on here don't you?
I find it strange that you had to wait until you got safely in front of your keyboards before you complain about the chants!
I never heard one of you lot complaining about it when we were walking through the subway back to the car!
Then again judging by the ammount of empty seats probably none of you were at the match?

Walking back to the car not one beast mentioned anything about the banter in the ground about mido. The same mido your fans called a shoe bomber when he played for spurs!

"Chants are a lot less dangerous than bricks through windows."

Completely incorrect. Throwing a brick may cause criminal damage and in some instances, personal injury but you have to think of what these chants have on our society in the long term. Both are cowardly acts though, i'd never condone any Boro fan who took part in either of them.

"Its football not crown green bowling, if it winds the opposition or opposition fans up then it is ok by me, all part of the thrill of the game before the game was turned poncy, clapping only and none contact will be the next step for some of you sad gits."

How on earth is racist chanting part of the thrill you moron?

Senor_Chester Posted on 27/8 18:01
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

While I agree it's fundamentally wrong I'm unable to get outraged by the chants? At the end of the day it's a football match and it's part of it, rightly or wrongly.

Maybe the Newcastle supporters should complain about the build a bonfire song, after all it's about murdering Geordies and Mackems.

re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

I work in London with young Arab and Asian children, they were probably watching the game yesterday. Why should they have to hear such pathetic chants? All it does is stir up resentment.

It has been said a hundred times before but the chants coming from the Boro end about Viduka are not comparable to racist chanting. Anyone who can't see that has serious issues.

Email address for the FA anyone?

harvest74 Posted on 27/8 18:36
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Excuse me, but as Boro fans will you guarantee that there are no chants of "A town full of P**i's" at St James' Park next game you play or is it one rule for Geordies and one for yourselves. Maybe you should look closer to home before throwing indignant arms into the air.

Leedsclive Posted on 27/8 18:43
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

I cannot make out a word they sing anyway so didn't notice.

Obviously Setanta or Sky or the BBC didn't either. They would have done if it had been some Croatians chanting at England players.

joeboltons Posted on 27/8 18:47
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Can you tell us what you put in your letter to the FA and Ron Turnbull after Boro fans called Robbie Savage the only gay in the village.

I assume you wrote one ?

harvest74 Posted on 27/8 18:54
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

And is Ron Turnbull the man to write to at the Boro regarding abusive shouting, as I heard one woman call the Geordies "F**king b**tards" and one bloke said that they were "all inbred". If that is not abuse what is? Can't have it both ways unfortunately.

BoroMod Posted on 27/8 19:23
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Joebolton, i'd hazard a guess that he didn't write a letter as it was merely banter. Can you not see the difference between that and racist remarks.

One is a link to a popular British comedy, the other is illegal.

And when has "a town full of.........." ever been sang by Boro fans at St James'?

smallmindedcranks Posted on 27/8 20:04
re: a letter of complaint will be on its way to

Boromod,

"It has been said a hundred times before but the chants coming from the Boro end about Viduka are not comparable to racist chanting. Anyone who can't see that has serious issues."

Because it has been said a hundred times then it is true i take it?

I wonder how many times this kid here was called fatty? If a hundred it was ok to do so?

http://www.jaredstory.com/april_c.html

Just because arab/asian kids are your pet project doesnt mean it is ok to say disparaging remarks to other minorities/individuals surely?

It is exactly the same but looks like you are too blind to see it.

Dont know about town full of p...s but town full of rap.ists definitely has been.

I also wonder about the fat kids in the crowd hearing fat greedy bastar.d is it more wrong for a black kid to hear you black bast.ard? Given you have read the web site above?

Facinating, you don't understand the difference between race and being a fatty, one you have a choice in the other you don't, and thats the fooking point.

If you don't understand the KEY difference there then there isnt much hope for you.

Very fooking weird.

Ok if you want to split hairs, what about you ginger bas.tard?

Not all fat people have a choice but anyway the above one has been shouted against ginger haired players by us. They have a choice I take it - they could die their hair?
