Avoid the irish bar, it's rubbish.

In the square there is a bar called the King of Spain (Reyo D'Espagna) which serves loads of good beers and in the middle of the bar is a full size stuffed horse.

Round the corner is the rubbish and small manneqin pis statue.

More michelin starred eateries per square centimetre than anywhere else in the world.

A few good clubs but I forget the names.

And er, that's about it. A weekend should do it.

I knew you'd know boksic, thanks.

I'm not sure where the Irish bar is but I'll have a look just off the main square.......

brussels is awesome, not the best idea to venture outside the city centre though it's a little dodgy. try one of the variations of the chocolate crepes...absolute heaven.

The irish bar IS just off the main square, if you come out of that king of spain bar on the corner it is about 2 streets away but it is rubbish and was also the base for the england hoolies at euro 2000, fact fans.

I'm going this Sundayt through Tuesday. Is there anywhere nice to drink around the Botanical Gardens area?

off the top of my head no. i stayed in a hostel (van gough's hostel ) just round the corner, there's a small bar over the dual carrigeway, but the majority are deeper into the city.

Love the place.

Get yourself to the art gallery if you like that sort of stuff. Voctor Horta's house is is worth a vist if you like that sort of stuff. Personally I like the Mannekin Pis but I guess that's my sense of humour. Then there's the gueuze museum/brewery which is great, errm, if you like that sort of thing. And somewhere on the main square there's a bar with a full size stuffed horse.

* waits for ALB to turn up and say he goes there with work a lot and can't stand it *

Are you going with mates or future wife cos I reckon thats vital in terms of how good it will or can be.

mates = lots of ale and strip bars and maybe a match

future wife = wandering about looking in chocolate and lace shops for souvenirs and maybe a boat ride.

Grand Place, the square's called. Went to some do there around this time of year where there were candles all around the square from the second tier upwards. Dunno what it was called but it was great.

Mannekin Pis is worth seeing if only to see if any Australian tourists are about to try and nick his kit. Apparently, he needs a new set of threads every day.

The Atomium's right by Heysel.

Like sas said, though, I'd take the short train ride to Bruges every time.

"maybe a boat ride" - its Brussels Bandi, not Venice or Amsterdam.

Saw Anderlecht a few too many years ago ... but it was against Barca in the Nou Camp

Best way to get to Anderlecht is on the Metro, but it`s not easy to get tickets. Last time i made enquires you still needed to buy a fan card to be able to buy a ticket, and you had to have a belgian address to get said fancard.
Try e-mailing the club ticket office to see if anything has changed.

There is a good second hand Record shop just up the hill from the mennequin de pisce.

Brussels is ok, though not as nice as Brugges.

Boksic: substitute boat for bus and we're very warm.
