Why there isn't an outcry against Mallon selling off all of Middlesbrough's land baffles me. He has sold every single piece of land possible. He is constantly trying to negotiate deals with redcar and cleveland council so he can have some of their land to develop on, he is selling us down the river. Literally. There is one grade 1 listed building in Middlesbrough...and he has already arranged for that site to be turned into apartments/houses. Once bent –always bent.

Don't know the full story but recently a property developer submitted a planning application oppisite my house, They were going to chop down all the 14 year old trees and build an office block. I immediately applied for Tree Protection Orders on all the trees on that site. An assessment was carried out the next day and TPO's granted to all the trees. The owner of the land now has six months to appeal and give good reasons why the TPO's should not be granted and saying an office block is required just isnt acceptable. Have from the planning officer that planning permission is highly unlikely. Has this already been tried on Longridge Wood? And if so what was the conclusion?

Mahatma, which is the Grade 1 listed building? Deganya, well done. There's plenty of empty office space in Boro. Are Church House and Gurney House still empty?

Mallon appears to be siding with the property developers at every possible opportunity. Some people might say he has been taking back handers, but that's difficult to prove. But I have to say it certainly looks like way. Man of the people my arse!!

Middlesbrough population is falling and nbot enough high earning type people moving into the town so i suppose the idea is to try to build more executive properties in the nicer area. Far too many people with money are choosing to live outside middlesbrough. all the colleges are moving to middlehaven so they will want to sell of the land at some point and only developers seem the option. the decision on what acklam hall becomes is undecided and who should fit the bill to maintain it. Legally i Don't think it can be converted. One of the few buildings worth keeping in the town but the problem is what it wil be used for and who pays for the maintaince even if it stays as it is.

From what I've observed, I believe municipal politicians getting backhanders from property developers is prevelant everywhere. Like to see some US-style federal prosecutors go after them!

"Middlesbrough population is falling and nbot enough high earning type people moving into the town so i suppose the idea is to try to build more executive properties in the nicer area. Far too many people with money are choosing to live outside middlesbrough." The population was falling, I doubt it is now, there has been a large influx of Polish and other workers and there are far fewer empty properties. A lot of people still need cheap rented houses, not the overpriced apartments loved by the property speculators. Also the uni is growing and we have a lot of students from outside the area. I agree that Mallon is running the town housing into the ground in order that the land can be sold off. It stinks. Mallon appears to have long term plans to move Middlesbrough people out of the town and build entertainment centres and his gay quarter. I would not trust this council as far as I could throw them.

it is still falling. people are moving over to ingleby barwick. how many houses are empty in places like yarm, eaglescliffe, ingleby barwick compared to boro. are there really that many polish workers in middlesbrough? Problem is they arent building many houses at the top end of the price range compared to other areas in the region. ther eare plenty of empty cheap houses about.

The same people wanting jobs and investment are the same people not wanting development. To have one you need the other. Although I dont agree with developing greenfield sites.

He does seem to favour the property developers. Might explain why he wants to knock down so many houses in the run down areas. I know housing needs improving, but wholesale demolition of older areas of Middlesbrough seems a bit radical. Would be good to see a credible candidate stand against him in the next mayoral election.

"Middlesbrough emits 800,000 tons of CO2 every year, over half of which comes from houses and road transport. Responding to climate change is the most important environment challenge of the 21st century" MAYOR RAY MALLON 'Taking the Lead' 2002 and now the bottom line... "Site 44-Longridge has been identified for housing in the Coulby Newham Master Plan since 1976. The site will provide good quality family housing and be an attractive alternative to sites elsewhere in the Tees Valley and North Yorkshire. This will help to retain economically active households and help to stem population decline" Kevin Parkes, Senior Planning Officer, Middlesbrough Council, Dec 2006 DOH - THEY'RE MOVING OUT COS ITS ALL BUILT UP AND THE ROADS CHOCKA ALREADY! It is simply a high band council tax farm that will also serve to make the traffic worse on Marton Rd as a deliberate act to help Mallon and MBC put the squeeze on the National Trust and Redcar and Cleveland to build the Mallon Superhighway through the grounds of Ormesby Hall...

But it was ok to increase the size of towns and villages in East Cleveland to let the townies move into reducing the farmland and vehicles on the roads but now it's in the backyards of the houses built 35+ years ago for those wanting to move out of town then.

no it wasnt, but then that just proves that redcar and cleveland council down at eston town hall are just as pathetic as middlesbrough council

I used to live near there. it's a beautiful area so quiet. You wouldnt think your just a few miles away from the town centre. Surely the council should treasure that area.
