Bring back the Home Nations trophy for next

Summer, it'll give the UK National teams something to do, keep the fans interested and keep all the superstar millionaire footballers off the piss.

And if the new England manager does not win all the games, people will be calling for his head.

I can see Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland being up for it, but I doubt England would want to be involved.

Brilliant idea! A tournament for all the losers.

Should we invite Belgium?

Good idea- would love to see it.
BUT - this could only physically happen AFTER the play-offs have finished, (as the other home nations have lots of players playing in the lower leagues and could be involved in them) and before Euro 2008 begins - as would have to be agreed by FIFA i believe. -
So that only provides us with a small timescale in June to play the games.

Previously the home nations took place right after the season finished, but in those days we did not have the play-offs.

Hope it does get the go- ahead tho

Well it'll give us a few decent games to watch and an oppotunity to shut the jocks up!

I lived in Scotland when we used to have that competition, the Scots were right up for it,,,it was fantastic,,,I wonder why they stopped it? Prob to much bloody trouble.

N. Ireland would relish the chance to defend their title.

I could see them doing it too!

Doesn't even have to be at the end of the season. Use the international breaks when there's no qualifying games on.

I hope they do bring them back. Just an idea how about the olympic rules... of a limited number of players over 24.

One of the few times I've ever agreed with Mr.Brown.

Great idea. Drop the big names and try a few younger players.

re: Bring back the Home Nations trophy for next

Even better - free England from Scotland and Wales then we can have tournaments with any country we want and not be worried about 'Home Nations'

You can pretty much guarentee the FA, will use the time to travel to Asia or USA on some money spinning event, leaving, Scots, Wales etc to play a pretty exciting tournament.

re: Bring back the Home Nations trophy for next

I take it you're not old enough to remember the Home Nations tournaments then Teesside Cleveland. Major benefit being we'd have already qualified for a Home Nations tournament.

They were generally better to watch than some tournament played by largely defensive teams half way round the world.

re: Bring back the Home Nations trophy for next

they are going to return, but at the moment without England.

Scotland, wales, ireland and the republic of ireland competing for the 'celtic' cup.
