| COATHAM FILM to be Shown in PARLIAMENT ! | |
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT By Chris McGlade of the Friends of Coatham Common: On Monday 10th of December, we are presenting the film 'COATHAM - A COMMON CONCERN' By Craig Hornby / FCC to an invited audience of 50 in THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. The week before last, I approached Vera Baird MP's secretary Peter Scott to arrange this. I simply asked if he could book us a room and get back to me within a few days. He came back to me asking for the film to be first shown to councillors as it would be only good manners. He said that a room could not be made available within our requested time frame due to security arrangements, invitations to send out etc. I suspected that I was going to get the runaround so we approached an MP from another constituency and a room was booked immediately. TO ALL MEMBERS OF REDCAR and CLEVELAND COUNCIL: You had the opportunity to come and see the film at the Coatham Bowl, along with nearly 500 of your constituents but you chose to follow the blanket boycott recommended by the officers. Because of this and the fact that nearly 1,000 calls for a public inquiry were ignored; and because of Labour breaking its election promises to take Coatham back to being leisure-led then pressing ahead regardless and fencing off the land, we had no hesitation in taking this to highest seat of power in the land through an MP from a different constituency. We have provided this other MP with information/documents regarding the Coatham scheme including all that has been given to us by a source, who approached us a few months ago. This MP told us it would be a neglect of duty if they did not do something about the situation within this borough. We also provided the information to Private Eye magazine who then began conducting their own investigation. The article is featured in this weeks issue - going online Friday. After being shown in Parliament, the film will screened across Teesside in the New Year. All dates will be well advertised.

An invited audience of 50! What 50 MPs????? Judging byt he usual turnout at Westminster you might get 3 to turn up then. Unless the bar is free of course! Then you'll get 600 odd!
