Mindless, brutal attack in town last night...

Just been informed that 2 of my mates were jumped last night by 5 lads near the Cleveland Center exit ramp. They were walking past the CC and one lad came up behind and hit one of them, knocking him out. My other mate, naturally went to back him up and the 5 of them went for him, kicking F*** out of him. Then they carried on absoloutley knocking F*** out of them while they were knocked out on the floor. One my mates brothers tried to ring him as they were walking well ahead of them and a police man answered his phone coz he was unconcious and told him what happened, the police seen it all on CCTV and have got the F***ing low life scum bags in custody. The bobby said what he saw knocked him sick, and the lads are up court not only for assault, but for attempted murder tomorrow, it was that bad. It will all come out in the gazzette tomorrow.

Apparently there was some studants near by who saw it, they took the police to were the lads had gone to and the police arrested them...good F***ing on yous, who ever yous are.

They are both still in hospital, one has come round, and the other is in a drug induced coma, F***ing hurrendous, what was going through there mind, and what P***es me off is that their solicitors will try and defend them, saying they diddnt know what they were doing and all that F***ing bollox, how the F*** can you defend that ??? They have nearly F***ing killed one of them and they dont know if there is any internal damage till he comes round.

That is fooking disgraceful. Hopefully, the offenders will get a long prison sentence for this. However, don't hold your breath, the way the criminal system is nowadays, they will possibly get sent on a holiday to Barbados to think about what they have done. Barstards.

Hope your mates get well soon BTW.

This happened to one of the lads from CoB a couple of years ago. 5 of them gave him a kicking in town and no one stopped to intervene. This happened on a Friday night and just to top it all off, the following day, we beat Bolton 5-1. [:D]

Not trying to be offensive BTW, just sharing a story.

These lads should be named and shamed when you find out who they are.

parmoandstella Posted on 06/07/2008 21:46

they were sat in the back of the police van and the one of the bobbys said aksed them if they realised what they had done, and that they are gonna be up for attempted murder, they diddnt even flinch, saying they couldnt give a F***, and carried on talking between them selves, this will all go against them, i hope they get life but i doubt that will happen, id put them in the army for 20 years, one of them was only 21

parmo, sorry to hear this and best wishes to your mates,
but you know whats going to happen here, they will be out on bail
tomorrow, then at the trial these B******s are going to have clever briefs fighting thier corner for them who will plead each one has bad drug problems and the need help not prison,or drink was the factor and the have pregnant girl friends who want a chance to change thier ways, the same utter bollox in the gazette every night and these T***s end up with another asbo.as long as the prisons are over flowing B******s like this know they will get away with it,the whole system needs a shake up starting with reopening the borstal schools to sort them out now.

i agree benidorm2boro, but if they are up for attempted murder, i think they will be put on remand. they take the decision to get drunk, they take the decision to take drugs, so they should takle responsibility for their actions, but that is just wishfull thinking

British soldiers arent meant to be angry, they are meant to be the epitomy of professional discipline. I dont think these mindless scrotes have what it takes.

I think the army get lumbered with enough stuff that they shouldn't be involved in, eg covering for striking firefighters. Considering people volunteer for the army normally, I doubt they'd want to have to serve alongside vvankers who don't want to be there who they can't trust.

Unless we can get on top of this sort of thing, society is fecked. Hope they're going to be ok and make full recoveries. Coming so soon after the murder of Gavin Robinson in Thornaby, it just makes you sick.

It's not as if it's a new thing. When I was away at Uni, there were a number of attacks on students, one of which was on me and a mate (jumped on from behind after a night out). Fortunately, a security guard saw what was happening, chased them off and I made a full recovery. What I'm saying is, it used to happen occasionally, now it seems to be happening a lot more.

Absolutely disgraceful - people like that shouldn't be part of society.

I live in a town outside Gateshead and on friday night a gang of lads set about another lad on the main road outside me house. I looked out the window to see some lad knocked out on the floor taking punch after punch and then a boot to the head. I legged it outside all the traffic had stopped and the lads had done one, the poor fellah was choking on his blood so I put him in the recovery position, the ambulance took about 20-25 minutes. It was one of the most horrific things i've seen.

The ambulance took about 20-25 minutes, the lad was coughing blood and had spilt blood all over the middle of the road. His face was proper messed up. The lads who did it should be done for attempted murder - batter someone who's unconcious and you KNOW you could kill them.

Thing that scares me is that if the couple of us that helped hadn't been there - eg if it was a small road or quiet time of day - then the kid could have choked to death and then it would have been murder/manslaughter. This country has to sort out the thug and gang problem.

mooghead Posted on 06/07/2008 22:44

I work in a prison and by now am numb to all this. It happens all the time everywhere. People try to kill others for the sake of their own entertainment, its the absolute truth. We are all living amongst truly disgusting human beings, all you can do is look out for your own. Let it get to you and you will just wither.

At least Cameron is coming out with new proposals to crack down hard on crime:
- jailing anybody carrying a knife without good cause;
- clamping down on school discipline;
- introducing a National Citizens Service (basically national service) scheme for 16 year-olds;
- getting rid of the "stop and search" forms the police are currently required to fill in for politically correct reasons;
- making make the Sentencing Guidelines Council accountable to Parliament which will result in tougher sentences.

He also wants the UK to pull out of the seriously flawed EU Human Rights Bill and may even hold a referendum on EU membership.

Gordon Brown meanwhile just seems to be twiddling his fingers, pretending that everything's ok. Hoping our broken society will correct itself. He doesn't want to highlight the country's serious problems after all as it might affect Labour's chances at the next election. He's an incompetent muppet.

Zero tolerance relies on a heavy police prescence, regular stop and searches and targeting the areas and people that are most likely to commit crime.

These thugs have no respect and no fear of anyone or anything. They've been brought up in a culture were everything they need will be provided and they are always right in what they say and do.

Teachers, police and parents can't touch these kids because of fear of the PC brigade shouting child abuse. Can't abuse their civil liberties.

Where are the civil liberties for the decent law abiding people- young and old- who live in fear of using the town centre on a night?

I fear we have gone too far down this road now and it is out of control.

I do not wish to demean the hooror of this incident, but it's not a new problem even if it is getting worse. I had the living S*** kicked out of me years ago by 3 lads near the Brunswick Arms, no provocation, words or warning. If it had not been for one of the Teesdales, I don't know how it would have ended. He told the police that they were jumping on my head, he knocked one of them to the floor and they all ran off.

Took me months to get over it, still have problems with the fingers on one hand, which were mashed, and it is sickening to see it happening over and over again with no action being taken against these idiots.

I hope the lads are OK and had no long term damage.

TrappaTony Posted on 07/07/2008 09:45
Mindless, brutal attack in town last night...

Chavs and thugs are the next generation of parents, so what are the chances of their offspring being brought up as decent, law abiding, well adjusted citizens or the alternative, ie chavs and thugs?

It's an ever increasing downward spiral of decline that started in the post war years but the causes are many and complex. Society as a whole is to blame for arriving at a point where it produces people that are not fit to be parents - just blaming "parents" is a rather simplistic notion.

Holgatewall Posted on 07/07/2008 09:53
Mindless, brutal attack in town last night...

Well let's be 'Simplistic' for a moment and say it's the parents who brought these little scrotes into the the world so the buck stops with them. They are the ones who are supposed to teach these kids right from wrong and it shouldn't be down to teachers or anyone else. Don't blame society for the way these kids are brought up.

It is down to the parents full stop.

norfolkred1 Posted on 07/07/2008 09:55
Mindless, brutal attack in town last night...

Society to blame. Not too sure on this one. The kids today get what they want and if not just steal it because they know there will be no punishment to fit the crime. The parentsa who say 'my son/daughter would not do that' is a hypacrit(sp). Both of my youg adults 21 and 18 have never, to my knowledge anyway, been in trouble with the police and if they were I would blame my self for failing them and not Society. To easy, the get out clause, 'anybody but me'

Thats why the state has to react. Zero tolerance. Lock the fkrs up. Take them off the streets.

I drink lots of alcohol, probably too much, but I've never wanted to kick someones head in after a night on the lash. All I've wanted to do is get a dodgy kebab and make my way home without being sick.

Alcohol isn't the problem it's that our society seems to breed low life scum and refuses to string them up by the neck when they step out of line.

I thought Ray Mallon was the man for Zero tollerence, but once again the do-gooders condem him because it's not the way things are done nowadays. These NIMBY F*****s need to spend a Saturday night with the police or in Accident and Emergency for a few nights to see how there 'cuddle them and comfort them regime' is going.

It is down to the parents full stop

I am not excusing, condoning or apologising for the scum that are a cancer on our society but it's stating the bleeding obvious that parents are to blame.

Simplisticly then it is; the basic point I try to make is that the "parents" in question are not fit to be parents in the first place. Maybe then, we should sterilise those found guilty of psychopathic behaviour as part of their severe punishment.

How about making Joey Barton a test case?

i'm no expert on behaviour etc but i reckon a lot of this aggro comes from the massive increase in sniff being used. countless times ive seen skinny 19/20 year old go mental full of aggro, coked up. in the last few years its got to the point where coke and beer go hand in hand but people my age always seemed to understand that the 2 make a recipe for aggro and chew.

maybe its just me.

im the same as a previous poster - i get drunk and just sniff out a dodgy takeaway or worse still a dodgy woman.

Similar thing happened to my cousin in Stockton a couple of months back. Two scallies jumped him for no reason, punchured his lung and left him for dead.

Luckily he had his phone on him and called 999, the ambulance just got there in time, said he was minutes from death.

I know people should be responsible for their actions and not blame them on booze but the truth is, people in this country can't drink sensibly. These European style booze laws that were brought in were supposed to relieve some of the tension and remove the need for people to cram loads of booze in prior to last orders. All that's happened is that there are more extended license and people get more wasted.

So Superbok, if this was your son or brother you'd be happy to see the little scummy f**k who did it sent to telletubbie prison with playsations, LCD TV's pool tables etc etc

Read this.

A TEENAGER from the North-East died after being tied to a tree, forced to drink petrol and then set on fire.

Simon Everitt, 17, who grew up in Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, died as a result of inhaling combustible fluid, tests revealed.

The body of Simon, who moved to Great Yarmouth with his family four years ago, was hidden in woodland at Mautby, five miles north-west of the Norfolk resort.

He vanished on June 7 and his remains were found three weeks later buried in a ditch and covered with soil.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, attended by Simon's father and stepmother, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Strong said post-mortem examination results confirmed the Yarmouth College engineering student had been taken to the woodland against his will.

"Simon was made to drink petrol and the conclusion of the post mortem is that the cause of death was the inhalation of combustible fluid," he said.

Simon's father, Vince, who was born and brought up in Bishop Auckland, said: "Anyone who thinks they have got any information, however daft it might sound, please come forward and tell the police.

We have to make sure this never happens to anyone again."

His stepmother, Sue, said: "No one deserves to die like this. This could have been anyone's kid out there. Someone must know something."

Last night, his former headteacher expressed shock at the news. Bruce Guthrie, headteacher at Bishop Barrington School, Bishop Auckland, said: "We remember him as a cheerful little lad."

Simon, who also attended Escomb Primary School, was at Bishop Barrington for two years, from the age of 11, and still has relatives at the school. "He was only here for a couple of years before he moved down south to stay with some of his family," said Mr Guthrie.

"But he was a canny little lad and he seemed happy." Vince Everitt, 44, had been clinging to the hope that his son may have returned to the region to visit friends.

But detectives launched a murder inquiry more than a week before they found Simon's remains, after a tipoff.

Yesterday, Mr Everitt, a pub entertainer, thanked everyone who had sent messages of support to the family.

Simon had last been seen on a mountain bike near a hospital in the Gorleston area of the town on June 7.

He lived in a bedsit in Beach House Hotel, Marine Parade, Yarmouth, and, like his father, was a keen entertainer and singer.

* Three people have been charged with Simon's murder. Jimi Lee Stewart, 24, of Nelson Road Central, and Maria Chandler, 40, of Lancaster Road, both Great Yarmouth, and Johnathan Clarke, 19, of Queen Elizabeth Way, Telford, Shropshire, are due in court in Norwich on July 14.

The government raise tax on alcohol by 5p a bottle of wine and 2p a pint, saying it will curb drinking. It will cost 20p extra on a night out.

They allow late opening to 4, 6am and 24 hour drinking in areas saying it will curb violence as people won't be all leaving at the same time. What happens? Everyone drinks for another 2 hours, gets completely rat arsed and leaves at the same time for a pizza.

things like this make me feel sick.

This attack has absolutely sickened me, especially as described in the Gazette.

This next bit is supposition but seeing as most others in the thread have had a go so will I.

I am sick and tired of the excuse of being "in drink" being trotted out as the reason why these type of scumbags try to claim they were acting out of character, and that the "loving father of a toddler has been dry for x months and now has the offer of full time employment" etc etc.

I also want to know if these scumbags are also on sniff as that seem to be the biggest catalyst for the more regular upping of the levels of violence since back in the day. I want a system that says if you were either "in drink" or full of sniff then the punishment is doubled, and if you were full of both then the punishment is trebled.

there is less violent crime nowadays according to statistics. The trouble is even if the stats were true i would think anyone would have difficulties believing them since new labour took a throttlehold on information.

p.s Tories v Labour on crime: NO DIFFERENCE. The tories can just get away with spouting off nonsence policies without doing the homework as they are in opposition. both parties merely react to media coverage where crime is concerned. they are also both hamstrung by the legal framework and bound to an unchanging civil service.
Ive seen sentences for rape in the 80's which were for four years. Good old tories.

Its a solicitors job to defend the scrotes though, its not their fault that scrotes like this walk the earth. Defence lawyers are vital. In every case which comes to court the evidence must be tested to destruction to ensure that a good case has been built and no short cuts have been taken.
As for blaming the government or the drinking laws, neither of these arguments really holds water.

The prison population in this country has risen from 50,000 to around 80,000 since New Labour took over. We have the largest per capita prison population in Europe and larger than the likes of China and the Sudan. Prison is already shown to be not working.

As for the drinking laws, we have nowhere near as many 24 hour licences as many of our European neighbours and we are not in the top ten in the European drinking league. However, our drinking culture is crap. Most town centre pubs that open late are no longer pubs at all, but clubs with bouncers on the doors and a business plan which involves getting young people to drink as much as is physically posible.

Junkyard, I posted something earlier about drinking laws having an affect. Now I know the drinker is responsible for their intake but the whole idea of 24 hour drinking was to remove pressure to binge before last orders and relieve the tension at chucking out time.

We haven't seen that though, have we? The pubs are just greedier versions of what they used to be maybe open 1 or 2 hours later. It just makes the night more hedonistic (if that's the right word.)

Does any other countries apart from ireland have the same problems we have in town centres at weekends? Uk town centres are no go areas for most people on friday and saturday nights. New bars should be required to have pubs that are full of tables and few standing only pubs. i think changing the culture more to sit down pubs with tables might help to calm town centre problems. Less loud nusic pubs. Make town centres more appealing to the older age groups

Been to a few european towns and cities over the years and rarely do I come across places that have problems we have with alcohol in town centres. Like you say maybe apart from stag do destinations. Would take a massive change in culture to sort it out over here. Feel there would be too much reistance to change.

My mate and his mate and girlfriend were walking home on Friday night when they were attacked by 5 lads. The lads went into a garden and pulled up a concrete post, then they jumped out and hit my mates mate over the head with it. It knocked him out cold and split his head wide open. They then tried to kick fuuuck out of him while he was lying unconscious on the floor.

My mate fought them off while they were punching him and hitting him with sticks. Luckily the bloke from the house came out and helped. They managed to hold on to 2 of the fuuucker till the police arrived. The lad had to go into surgery on Saturday to have his head stitched back together. This was a premeditated attack on innocent people. I hope they get done for attempted murder and get locked up for life.

trod, i totally agree with what you've said about alcohol, but maybe something else has been in their systems...........coke.

i've never and will never touch coke/heroin/e/acid or any other kind of recreational drug, so as i've never experienced the effects of heavy drugs, i've seen what it can do to people when mixed with alcohol. I've seen 9st weeklings try and take on the world when they are high, yet I go out twice a week and have never jumped anybody because i was P***ed.
I drink a lot when i go out, i stay responsible even though i'm hammered.

hope the 2 lads make a speedy recovery and the chunts who did this, suffer

Atrocious.

Many of us have probably had incidents similar and come away relatively ok.

This government need to clamp down on knife crime and general violence. Drugs and alcohol are not to blame, its sadistic temperaments and sickening disregard for life.

Hopefully the evidence is damning and these scum get what they deserve. I hope people know people inside when these F***ers get sent down.

I left the country in 1994 (originally from Redcar). Don't get me wrong, I miss home, and the family and I love to come home every couple of years, but I don't miss the violent, booze culture that seems to be destroying the country. I live in the US...I know, a lot of you probably see this country as a violent place...it is in SOME places. Here, if you get into trouble, you've probably wandered into a "bad" area. Back home violence seems more random. Hope and pray that the victims pull through.

zaphod Posted on 08/07/2008 03:48

I'm afraid that this type of attack is a symptom of a deeper problem in British society. As a country we seem to have lost our way, with the moral relativism of the 1960s leading to bad parenting, absence of moral values, emphasis on having fun, blaming everyone except the perpetrators etc. The attackers were "having fun" in their way and don't seem from the descriptions above to be troubled by conscience.

Our leading politicians and religious leaders seem to be part of the problem. Neither Brown nor Cameron seem to have any vision for Britain, just a ragbag of odd policy initiatives. Their parties are the same. The Archbishop of Canterbury is just a feeble old man trying to keep everyone happy without taking any moral stand.

All the same, Ex-Pat, I don't think the US can take any moral high ground. Violence is far worse there. The statistics prove it: there are almost as many murders in New York as in the whole of the UK - and that's after significant improvements over there.

Lefty Posted on 08/07/2008 10:13

I must admit that when it comes to America, although I accept that most parts of the country are safer than the uk, I can't see the 'bad' area explanation as any sort of excuse. Surely that is even more damning of the country.

The US is as bad as any western country if not worse. Don't know how people living in the US can have a go at the UK when gun crime is massive in america, everyone can have a gun and the police carry guns and use them frequently. Unless you live in places like maine then UK is still safer than USA.

it's time for the government to back track on all day drinking being allowed in this country. This as well as cheap drink promotions is casuing a lot of the problems that we are encountering today.

How we ever brought in all day drinking in this country is beyond me. It has been proved time and time again that Brits cannot take large ammounts of cheap alcohol.Even before deregulation of opening times we had Brits causing chaos in holiday resorts abroad and at world cups etc.

Mallon has said he wants to make Middlesbrough a 24 hour city. God help us.

I'm not saying the US is "better" than the UK. Statistically the US is every bit as bad as any western country, but those statistics represent the average...take away the violent inner cities and you have a generally less violent society. I'm not "having a go" at the UK, nor am I saying the US is better...I'm just trying to provide some perspective.

Alcohol seems to be the major difference. Unless you go to a big city, drinking etc. is a fairly private thing, whereas back home it's in your face. My kids love going to the beach when we go home, so we spend most of our time at Redcar seafront. A couple of times when we we there last year, I saw groups of kids just hanging out with a case of cheap beer...My parents have just visited us here in the US...their last night we had a nice meal and wandered around our town at about 10pm. We were able to do that without hordes of drunkards wandering around.

Anyhow, my main concern is that the two guys who were attacked make a speedy and full recovery.

Pity the police who had them in the back of the van didn't give the F*****s a good going over, one at a time while his mate has to watch on. Then ask them what they think about what just happened.

Sadly, we can't trust the police to do this to the 'right people', ie. the vermin we are talking about. They'd have to do it to some daft drunk they just nicked for p*ssing in a doorway and gave them a bit of lip. Hence the situation we find ourselves in where the scum chavs are doing what they like.

I'm a bit of a Guardian reading lefty, you know, ensure everyone gets a chance, a good start in life, but I'd seriously like to f*ck up these vermin. Seriously like to see them suffer.

I read this in the paper the other day and just couldn't believe what I was reading.

I know I drink too much when I go out, and I know lads who do plenty of sniff too, but neither I or the lads I know cause any bother no matter how much we drink etc.

The simple thing with what happened to parmos mates is that the perpetrators are simply mindless thugs, who would probably have done that regardless of having being drunk/on drugs. They should be chained up in a room and left to the family of the victim for 30 minutes with no retribution for the family.

Best wishes to them parmo.

Mindless, brutal attack in town last night...

First of all i wish to say that i hope that the victims recover from this asap and hopefully won't be mentally scarred as well as physically. I feel really sick reading about this and i hope these animals are put away for many years and not in a cushy prison where they will probably have a better life than they do now. I believe that the "beating" was terrible enough but to use bricks in shocking.
Questions i wish to ask:

1. To any little scumbags who may believe this is ok. Do you really feel big and "hard" when you outnumber people or use weapons? Really? It seems whenever there are vicious beatings the victims are always outnumbered and usually had to beaten by unfair and violent means.

2. Parents! It seems quite a lot of these crimes, violent and knife, seem to be committed by a lot of young people. I refuse to believe that some parents think that it is not thier children. If your children are out late at night it is probably them. If they think its clever to chatback to you and act moodly its probably them. If they hang out with gangs it is probably them. For goodness sake get some common sense and get your youngster some help!!

3. Regards knife crime, i refuse to be called racist for believing that the influx of knife crime is down to immigrants, bringing eastern european ways of dealing with "problems" and "people". Knife crime has been a problem over there for many years and it is something that they have brought with them.

4. How much longer are TV, music and computer games that "glorify" gangster culture be allowed to be released. I enjoy Grand Theft Auto as much as anybody but i can see the line between game and reality and been a thug is something people do not see. Gangster films, usually featuring a wannabee "hard man" Danny Dyer and even to some extent, films like Saw, are also glorifing violence that most people would previously deem too much.

5. Judges!! Please, Please, Please do not let these animals get only a few years. We NEED you to set a trend that will show that this behaviour can not, and WILL NOT be tolerated in our society.

6. And finally please could we go back to normal closing times for drinking. The governments theory of people drinking more sensibly was tragic. Everyone else could see that it was longer for these morons to get more bladdered and more violent.

I am only 25, i am not a campaigning do-gooder but i believe things have to change now. We are no longer "Great" Britain. We, as a nation, really are becoming the scum of the Earth!!

Couldn't disagree more, I feel much more relaxed when I leave a club at 3.30 than I ever did when everybody left at two and there was a scramble for women, pizza shops, taxis.

Got to agree with Lord D that the opening up of pub licensing hours has been a benefit.

There is as much evidence to support that view as there is against it.

If you are to blame alcohol at all aim at the cheapening of alcohol in supermarkets. BITD a can of lager from an off licence was as expensive as a pint in a pub, now look at the difference. This means people are getting tanked up at home before going out.

Plus I still blame the explosion of using charlie which started back in the mid-nineties to the point 10 years later where it now seems acceptable and expected on a night out.

Sorry to seem to go off tangent. I was delighted to read that one of the lads was released from hospital, and my thoughts remain with the other.

I Can't see what benefits we have gained from having extended drinking hours. All it does is give people more time to consume more drink. The original plan was to prevent revellers spilling out onto the town in one massive crowd but unfortunately the longer hours have just lead to more binge drinking.

Totally aggree with what has been said about cheap alcohol being available in supermarkets/off licence.

Lefty Posted on 09/07/2008 09:24
Mindless, brutal attack in town last night...

GBH with intent is entirely the right charge. It would be difficult to prove they were actually trying to murder the two lads.

If you look on the link

'Exceptionally serious - R v Thomas (1985) 7 Cr.App.R.(S.) 87. Offence described as being within touching distance of murder. Victim doused with petrol and set afire. High risk that victim would have died. If such a victim does not die because of superb medical intervention and/or a matter of chance whether the victim dies or survives, the probable sentence is one of life imprisonment. Even if there are strong mitigating factors, it is unlikely that on conviction the sentence will be less than 5 years imprisonment.'

One of the lads was in a coma. On the scale used to measure such coma's which has a range of 3 to 15 (3 being the lowest), this poor lad was rated 3. Presumably below that is death so I think it is fair to assume this will be treated as within touching distance of murder.

I'm not sure how the lad is now, but I do know that on the monday he had improved to a 5, which is some good news.

Ever have one of those moments when your liberal tendencies completely fail you and the urge to put together a posse of handy individuals - to distribute the exact same punishemnt to the thugs who did this as they did to the victims - becomes almost ovewhelming?

This time though there will be no expensive medical intervention. If they manage to survive the beating then they will have hopefully learned a lesson.

i really think the judge needs to make an example out of the people who did this, giving them a leniant sentence will teach them nothing and give out the completely wrong message to the public. drink and drugs aren't an excuse at all.

"Can anybody explain how the word 'intent' got in there. Intent= Intention, goal, plan, so this means they had an ultimate aim, which was what?"

To put it simply, its the intent to cause the severity of the injuries that were suffered e.g. if I intend to throw a pint of lager in your face (and no more than that), but the glass slips and smashes in your face causing deep cuts, then there is a lack of intent.
