Should not be anywhere near Glasto. IMO.

Really hope he gets booed off stage, never to darken the Uk`s door again.

Yes Hip Hop is always welcome at an Indie/Rock festival. Especially on the main stage

The_Lizards_Jumpers Posted on 27/06/2008 14:16

Glastonbury isnt a "indie/rock" festival though. Never has been and never will be.

Chappy112 Posted on 27/06/2008 14:16
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

Is that Jay-Z's fault? It's a sign of how great he actually is that they are breaking tradition for this guy.

Tacker Posted on 27/06/2008 14:38
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

Lets be honest, it's Glastonbury, after 3 gurners I wouldn't give a shizzle who was on the main stage, whether it be Jay-Z or The Proclaimers doing a set with the Krankies...I'd still rave me tits off.

Fatboy Slim has been playing there for Years, yet he is neither 'rock' or 'indie', and nobody has kicked up a fuss about him. Even more so his sets have been some of the biggest highlights over the Years.

If Jay-Z got boo'd off the stage or worse bottled off, it would be an embarassment to the British public. Saying that, on the flipside it wouldn't surprise me either, the majority of people who seem to go there are the weed smoking, tree hugging, "I just wana' hear the strumming of an acoustic, maaan" type.

Rant well and trully over.

I'm not a fan of the 'hip hop' genre, but I still respect Jay-Z for what hes done for it. So should the 100,000+ people who will be there this weekend.

I wonder how Shakin' Stevens new 'alternative rock' album is coming along...

What's "proper music"? Does it need a guitar?

Jay-Z is infinitely more talented than indentikit rock/pop pap like Fratellis, Stereophonics, Keane etc etc.

Hell of a lot of snobs for a supposedly open-minded event.

I dont take much interest in indie/rock cos its not my bag, but i dont take every possible opportunity to slate it. Im not sure which indie/rock acts are performing but chances are most of em will be lucky to out-sell Jigga in their career. FACT

I'll agree it's a strange choice as Glastonbury is predominantly populated by cliched 'mavericks' and middle class kids who wouldn't appreciate decent hip-hop if it donned skinny jeans, a pork pie hat and slapped them round the face with 6 tub of mung-bean noodles.

Libbins don't get him mixed up with 50 cent, Souja Boy and all that crap. Sure some of his production has a commercial sound (the guy is a businessman after all) but he does have a good pedigree and some of his more recent stuff has moved away from that again.

Basically son i dont mind you not liking the Hip Hop scene or its artists, that i can deal with. Im not suggesting that all of this is based on rascism either, but i would put a large sum of cash on the fact if dizzee rascal were performing there wouldnt be as much fuss. Secondly to add weight to my point do you not think the organizers of Glasto have him headlining to try and broaden their customer base as well as the fact that he is far far more of a success than most of the other acts hence being the "headline act"

My original thread was mentioned as something similar happened to 50 cent at a festival. That's why I asked the question. I then mentioned the fact Paddy Power were offering odds on him not finishing his set......ALSO A FACT

I then mentioned that I didn't think Jay-Z was a Glasto thing and that I don't like Hip Hop.....MY OPINION

You then crawled out your cave with your club and threw the racist comment into the thread via your rapper friend Blunt!

just showed my mate this thread and his exact words were

"just shows you the underlying racism that still beats in the english heart"

HAHAHA. With many well publicised race (related)issues facing the country, immigration, integration, asylum, high profile police cases, under performing/under achieving schools in minority areas, disproportionate numbers of minorities in jail etc etc etc

your sage-like mate gets all philosophical and full of social commentary after reading messages on a football forum(!!) about a hip hop artist performing at a festival -then draws conclusions about the English people in generals non spoken opinions on race relations.

And based on his time consuming and thorough Jay Z related research he come's out with the pearl of wisdom "just shows you the underlying racism that still beats in the english heart"

Tell your mate to give up on the social commentary. He's S***. and he sounds like tit

hiphop is art! don't make a fu**ing pop hit be smart!

I ain't a massive commercial hiphop fan (more into the more experimental side) but putting Jay-z on as a headliner is no different to U2 headlining. U2 have sold their ar5es to the commercial world no matter what jollies bono trys to pull.

Its a brave move by glasto and I have respect for them for doing it. The fact tickets haven't sold as well as previous years is:
1 there wasn't a years break like in 2006 so people haven't gone mad to buy them.
2 the cost its well pricey
3 the pain in the ar5e of registering for tickets
4 the little runts who jumped on the band waggon of glasto being the be all and end all have realised that 5 days in the pi55ing rain getting wet and losing their armarni hand bags and man bags isn't worth it.

Not down to jay-z being a headliner.

"Not down to jay-z being a headliner."

Funny that, because there's been fair few people on other forums stating that they aren't going because they can't stand Jay-Z and his crap music. I guess they must be lying.

Well if that is the case (which I suspect is a minority rather than a majority) they need to realise there is plenty of other stuff to do and see at glasto other than the headline act! I can see how it would put some off but if they'd dropped Jay-z from the headliner and put REM on in his place you telling me ticket sales would have improved that much?

nah!

Hip-hop artists or artists of any genre? Regardless, what has the music I do like got to do with my opinion regarding Jay-Z headlining at Glastonbury?

flute_loop Posted on 27/06/2008 16:33
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

People who think Glasto hasn't sold out because Jay-Z is headlining obviously haven't been.

sheriff_john_bunnell Posted on 27/06/2008 16:34
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

i think the lack of ticket sales is mainly down to there being a festival in every single 1 horse town in britain nowadays.

that plus you could go somewhere like slovenia and see a 4 day festival in the sun for 75 plus air fares.

I turned down free tickets for this years.

I'm sorry but is that supposed to be music? Utter turd in my opinion. Jaz 'Zeeee'' wouldn't put me off if I was going because most of the headliners over the years haven't really interested me.

Thats your opinion, but in mine that is absolute quality entertainment.

tom_mate Posted on 27/06/2008 20:24
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

Jay-Z will blow Glasto away. One of the best entertainers on earth. Lupe Fiasco is on BBCthree now, how come he's getting a good reacton from the crowd but they don't want Jigga to play?

Kevin_Bacon_Butties Posted on 27/06/2008 20:28
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

I like how those two dickheads on BBC Three are desperately trying to hype Jay-Z up! Hahahaha!

Chappy112 Posted on 27/06/2008 21:45
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

Lupe Fiasco is quality too!

Kevin if you have any knowledge of music whether you like it or not you should know Jay-Z needs no hyping up.

Kevin_Bacon_Butties Posted on 27/06/2008 21:56
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Obviously I'm utterly clueless when it comes to *music* because I'm mocking those turds on BBC Three hyping up Jay-Z.

It's very obvious he does need hyping up given the massive amounts of negative press his headlining appearance has received over the last few months. I mean, even bookies are taking odds that he won't finish his set FFS!!!

Chappy112 Posted on 27/06/2008 22:00
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

But he doesn't though, let him get on with it he is one of the best entertainers in the world.

Kevin_Bacon_Butties Posted on 27/06/2008 22:32
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

Have you been living in a cave or have you just ignored the amounts of negative press he's received in regards to Glastonbury? I certainly can't think of another headlining artist that has received such a bad rap as he has.

Chappy112 Posted on 27/06/2008 23:01
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

I've noticed it yes. But it's ignorance of the highest order for one of the greatest acts in the world.

Haha Jigga on Jonathan Ross then, how many cds have you sold - "One or two, or 50 million" Ain't bad is it [:)]

Kevin_Bacon_Butties Posted on 27/06/2008 23:08
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

"But it's ignorance of the highest order for one of the greatest acts in the world."

Obviously they don't feel the same, or did that concept escape you? Did it ever occur that perhaps people actually have listened to his music yet don't like it, hardly qualifies as "ignorance" does it?

"Haha Jigga on Jonathan Ross then, how many cds have you sold - "One or two, or 50 million" Ain't bad is it"

Amazing isn't it! Sells that many records and stills gets massive amounts of criticism for headlining Glastonbury! Mind you, kids'll buy any S***e these days.

Chappy112 Posted on 27/06/2008 23:15
Jay-Z Tomorrow At Glasto

One - I gurantee kids don't buy Jay-Z in the majority they are more likely to go for 50 Cent & Kanye West etc.

Two - If people listened to it they wouldn't make moronic statement like Pauluka's where he said "shoot a mutherF***er with a gun" or something to that effect because to be honest I've never heard Jay say that once. And if that isn't ignorance I don't know what is.

And yeah you're right Kevin it is amazing that there is a total lack of respect towards his success and ability which is proven by his record selling. You've finally said something sensible.
