Grant Harrison, who posts on here as grantus has had a seizure and died whilst on holiday. Absolutely gutted and in shock. Wasn't sure whether to post this or not but felt it was the easiest way to inform those that may have known him who I haven't already contacted. RIP grantus x

This is desperately sad news and genuinely tragic.

Grant was one of very few people on here that I have ever met, and even then only a handful of times.

But I enjoyed the craic with him after football matches at Regents Park several years ago when I worked in London - and he came across as a genuine guy, who was willing to have a laugh and take a joke. Fond memories.

Along with Lisbers, Flar and others, Grant made me feel welcome and meeting up for footy and a pint was one of the things I missed most when I got a job elsewhere.

My thoughts and prayers are with those who knew Grant better and loved him, particularly his partner.

My condolences.

The OP made me feel physically sick. You get so that you feel you know people on this board despite never meeting them but I did have the pleasure of meeting Grant at the charity match this year. I took that bloody awful photo, I'm afraid. He seemed like a real genuine, striaght up sort of bloke. Funny too.

Some Tragic News...

Grant was probably my first real mate in London. First time I met him was on the night of the UEFA cup Semi final second leg. I'd used all my holidays up going to the away legs and so had to settle for watching the home leg in Picadilly sports bar in London. I turned up on my own to meet grant after chatting on here and he was there with a few of his Boro supporting mates in Sean and Toddy. What a night that was, we got completely mullered and had an amazing night.

One day he came up with the idea of Regents Park football and I went and sorted it and over 20 Boro fans turned up for a kickabout and a few beers. We played every Thursday but at times the after match drinks seemed more important than the football as the London CockKnockers crew was formed. We all became reall great mates, Pauluka, Flar, OneTwoMany, Fonz, Maxter, etc and used to regularly go to Boro matches and get hammered together. I met a lot of really good people through Grant and he often used to joke that he'd given me my life in London, there was actually some truth in that. We were both pretty strong characters and this led to us arguing almost every time we went out and on more than a couple of occasions almost came to blows as Grants lack of tact after a few beers came in.

We both did the Great South Run together in Portsmouth on a day I ran the whole course with shin splints and he beat me despite turning up 20minutes late and also did Run London together. We went to festivals together and he was there when I punched Onetwomanys window through after a particularly boozy night. He would be there at football every Wednesday and every week I'd share the tube home with him and chat. We went to the Reading game together and on the Evening of the match my son was conceived after I managed to get rid of him after he'd had too much to drink. He played in both charity matches I organised, missing the vital penalty in both games and he told me that if I did it again in 2012 he'd make sure he scored. I set up the MSS FC second team this season and grant started playing for them, cycling to home games. He'd had a rough time jobs wise and just when he thought he had it nailed he was made redundant for a third time. This time, as we sat on the tube chatting after football, he didn't seem too downhearted. The reason was that he'd been given a hefty package, despite not being there very long. He told me he was going to go travelling for a bit in the New Year, over to Thailand and more to enjoy life for a bit.

He was as fit as I'd seen him, he was relaxing by the pool, decided to go for a bottle of water and it cost him his life. He was a brilliant character, a fantastic friend, he had his problems and at times was a pain in the arse but on his day he was brilliant. I'm going to miss a really great friend and I'm totally gutted that he won't get the chance to score at the Riverside like he desperately wanted. RIP grant, I'll really miss you mate x[|)]

So saddened to hear of this news. I have also met Grantus a number of occassions a few years ago at away games, always came across as a very very decent bloke. I have enjoyed his posts on the board - and he loved the Boro.

I used to love the banter between the London footballers when LL's football training reports came on, it was funny how Grantus' versions always differed from LLs!

The last time I seen Grantus was 23rd December in the ticket office, he was in there buying 6 tickets for the Hull game, I never spoke to him directly as I wasnt sure he would recognise me after meeting always intoxicated at games! I knew it was him from his London postcode he gave to the lady.
I said to my partner, he is a top boro fan and a nice guy, and joked I wonder if all his family are getting a boro ticket for Christmas! I was telling him about him from the board.

I have meant to put a post on all Christmas asking him how he enjoyed the boxing day win after seeing him there in the ticket office, and now I hear this [|)]

I am so sad to hear this news. If only he could see the genuine upset this news has brought the board, its hard to imagine what his loved ones are going through.

RIP Grantus x Love Smifter x

A big thanks to EBD for posting his pic earlier as it put a face to the name. I met him at the charity match- in the queue for the bar and I let him queue jump as I said his need was greater than mine. We chatted for a while until we got served. That is all I know about him but in those few short minutes we got on really well. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends but I hope they can take some comfort from reading these amazing tributes to him.

I'm in a state of shock - I hadn't seen Grant much over the last few years but he was a good friend who I've known well for the last 20 years. I got a phone call this afternoon which has just left me numb. He was best mates with a lot of my best mates and it is fair to say that everyone is truly devastated and in a state of disbelief. I hadn't seen him since we both went to a wedding in 2010 and had a mountain of beers with him and he was in great form.

I'll remember Grant for many things, the knee braces that he always wore playing football, the first pair of blade football boots that he bought and the fact that (especially when he was younger) that he could start an argument with himself inan empty room after a few pints!!!
But most of all I'll remember him as someone who loved life and lived it to the full - he fitted more into his short life than many of us will if we live to be 80.

RIP Angry lad....[|)]

Degsy here's another picture that Borolad took at the charity match. Grant has the daft knee support on and I remember taking the pi$$ out of him for it. Grant was always able to take a bit of banter as well as dishing it out.

Not long ago we were all travelling to Southampton from Waterloo. Most of the lads were getting leathered en route but I was playing a match the next day so was off the sauce.

Whilst the other lads were like raging crack heads trying to get extra booze Grant was only interested in his massive Cornish Pasty.

He commended me on not drinking at such an occasion and said we must be the only two with any real sense. About two hours later we were travelling home and Grant had two massive bottles of booze, drinking like a good un - singing songs about the boro and Tony Mowbray [smi]

RIP Grant

Still just can't believe it, wished I had seen more of him recently. The last time i was with him was at the Palace cup game where me, his lass Debbie and EBD met up, Grant. Being his usual self

A few years back me and the ex split up, Grant offered me his couch until I could sort myself out straight away. Which was even more impressive as it was 11pm at night.

I tell you what though, he was an opinionated so and so, he used to drive me up the wall

Its been mentioned above about being Mr Angry, very true and the one memory I still laugh at is when Lisbon was chasing him around a pub in Camden on my birthday, ended up outside where Lisbon was still chasing him around parked cars, Grant was XXXXXXing himself laughing at a panda baying for him. Very good times, and ones I have and will miss

Despite only meeting the fella once (a drunken encounter at the Dance Fields at Glastonbury), I know from stories relayed from One Too Many (a close footballing friend of his of the 'London Cock Knocker Crew' infamy), that he was regarded as a true friend in the highest regard and that he is grateful to Grantus too, for helping him in making his move to London that bit easier by introducing him to fellow posters through 'Regents Park Footy'.

Some Tragic News...

I’ve composed my thoughts slightly over the last couple of days...

Grant was an enigma. He touched the lives of pretty much everyone who he knew – his friends that he grew up with around Stokesley, the people he met when travelling and then everyone that he got to know when he moved to London.

The term “life and soul of the party” is wildly used, but Grant was exactly that. Grant argued with everyone (especially after about the fifth pint!!!) but fell out with no one for more than about ten minutes. When you went out with Grant you knew that you would end up very drunk and (especially a few years ago) you knew you’d end up arguing with him – he wasn’t called “Angry” for nothing. And that was the thing with Grant – he could be a pain in the arse (like has been said) – but nobody minded because he was such a good lad underneath – so full of life and energy, such a good charver.

Grant was a good friend, but he was a best friend of a lot of my best friends and while I am completely gutted and still in a state of shock they are truly devastated. Such a terrible waste of such a great life for such a pointless reason.

I only met Debbie once, she’s a lovely girl and I can’t imagine what she has gone through over the last few days. Truly horrific. Along the same lines my thoughts go out to Brian and Kath, I can’t even start to imagine what they are going through.

Grant was a star. And the fact that I’ll never see the scruffy argumentative chunt again hurts me more than I ever imagined.

Rest in peace fella, you will be missed more, by more people, than you could have ever imagined.

Spot on Degsy. I loved Grant but we'd spend half our time together arguing but as you say, he got away with it cos you knew he was actually a sensitive, caring, decent bloke underneath. I saw him through some dark times, The redundancies, money troubles, relationship issues, he had the lot and could be a real pain in the arse but there was no one better to be with when he was buzzing. I also went through some tough times and he was a great friend to me, I also lived in San Francisco, Sydney and London so we had a great synergy aswell as the Boro. The last few months saw a real return to form, and he became embroiled in MSS after initial shunning it. Once he realised it wasn't a stuffy organisation but just a great set of lads (and lasses) who love football, beer and banter he was right in the mix. Wednesday night football, playing for the pool team, playing Sunday football for MSS2, I actually don't remember him looking happier than at any point in the time I'd known him. That is the real tragedy of it all. He told me he was off on holiday to scratch an itch. It should have been a great break to return to the fold with a load of new banter and arguments and to celebrate Boro's promotion. It just feels like an unfinished book, it shouldn't have ended this way, it's all wrong.

I am shocked and saddened at this news. We really have lost one of our own, and the terraces as well as the board are going to be just that little bit quieter without him.

I will shout a tribute in the SE corner this weekend.

Haven't posted on here for a few years but I felt I'd like to add to the condolences to the terribly sad news of the accidental death of Grantus. He always came across as a decent bloke with sense of humour that compelled you to read his posts, more than anything though, a truly mad Boro fan. My sympathies to his loved ones.

Degsy, I just read your second post in a quiet moment at work today - luckily I'm choked up with cold at the moment so my streaming eyes could be explained away. Grant seems to have enriched so many lives, he must have been a great lad to be around, you are all so lucky to have known him so well. I hope you will all treasure your memories of this super lad.

Very sad indeed-- in his memory he was a very thoughtful member of the FMTTM family-- and a true Boro fan-- Rob, maybe we can have pic or something of him on this site-- which will salute to his lasting memory and his overall contribution? My thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends.

Sadly missed and another reminder of how fragile and sudden life can be.

And never a word said she;

Lisbon - Grant's dad went around my mam and dads house last week to ask about how things work in Thailand with regard to the authorities etc in these situations.

My dads best mate died in Thailad last year (he was living out there) and they had to go and sort it out with his son and two other friends. They ended up getting him cremated over there and then had a service back over here at Hutton Rudby where he was originally from.

From what my mam was saying to me, she got the impression that Grants dad was thinking this way too - she can't be sure though. Have you heard anything else?

I was at White Hart Lane a few years back and the guy in front of me is drinking a can of Stella. At some point in the second half the old bill come and escort him out. After reading his post on FMTTM, this turned out to be Grantus. I hope you’re sharing a can of Stella with the big cheese now. R.I.P.

From Taylor and Nuge, Clarky and Gutch, Ste Jock and Tom. Jonna and Shep, Arthur and Ash, Jord Matts and the Bear.
A soul like yours, a friend like you, by god we know it's rare.

A ranging bull, an indomitable force, a man with his feet on the ground.
Youl always be missed, always mourned, never lost but always found.

You loved your Debbie, loved your town, loved your footy, beer and our boys.
You made your mark, made your stamp, and dont we know you made some noise.

You did it your way, the opposite way, the challenging way, the independent way, often the controversial way and by the way.
You've left us wondering why did you go? Why did you pass? Why did you fall asleep?
You've left a thousand friends, a thousand souls and a thousand hearts in a heap.

Resting in nirvana, sleeping with the angels we hope you enjoy all the spoils.
So here's wishing you good night our friend from your beloved Boro boys.

Some Tragic News...

Toddys speech:

My first memory of Grant is sharing a lift to college with him thanks to a mutual friend (Morton).  In them days he had dreadlocks and was a scruffy, swampy type character that was too cool for school or at least college as all he ever seemed to do was hang around at the back of the canteen with the other cool people staring disapprovingly at the rest of us who were there to gain an education.

I got to know him much better at University, while living with his best friends from school, Monty, Paul, Tim and Jam.  I remember when he came to live with us for while his plan was to become the best Kirby Cleaner salesman in the North East and failure was not an option (his words not mine). I will never forget his first day he was so excited to have got this proper job and off he went, suited and booted, to his induction.  Grant’s Kirby cleaning career lasted until lunchtime and we spent the rest of the day on the drink, me missing lectures and him bending my ear about what a bunch of idiots Kirby cleaning sales people were.
Grant had a nickname, Angry, it was in Newcastle that this side to his nature was first demonstrated I remember one day going shopping with Grant walking though the middle of Eldon Square he was not impressed by Geordies so decided to abuse passers by calling them Ding or Doylem, whichever insult best suited an individual.
His 21st Birthday was one to remember he arrived in a shiny new Mini Metro, his birthday present from Brian and Kath for a full day on the drink.  His aim was one pint of larger for each year of his life a difficult challenge but one we were up for. I don't remember if he achieved this goal but I do know that he didn't to get drive his birthday present for another 3 years, after an attempted visit to a Chinese through a few red lights via Newcastle police station.
As you can probably tell over the years I have spent a lot of time on the drink with Grant as we all have!  We used to always say there are only certain people who you can spend a good quality all day drinking session with and Grant was top of my list, so much so that when I went to Australia it was not the odd day it was an entire year.  Some people would say that it was a waste of a year however to me it remains the most enjoyable and important year of my life and was the time that I got to know Grant best.  He had been travelling the world, funded by the sale of his 21st birthday present and by the time we arrived in Sydney he had a job in removals, a room in nice house and a good circle of friends.  I remember he made us feel so welcome and proudly introduced us to all his new friends as my old mates from home and you are going to love them.  Grant seemed too had grown up a lot since I last saw him he was much less angry and we immediately became very close.  At that time 10,000 miles away from home he offered me a huge amount of support he had sorted himself out and was determined that I could do the same. I am glad he did because he introduced me to 2 girls who he was hanging around with as he had promised one of their boyfriends who he met in San Francisco, these girls were , Rachel and Alex my now wife.
Ridge Street our home in Sydney was a very sociable house there were always people coming and going, Grant had an open house policy so much so that one day we returned from work and there was no TV or Nintendo.  I suggested that if he didn't let every Tom Dick and Harry through the doors it would not have happened however he preferred the idea of Karma saying what comes around goes around.
Living with Grant you get to eat well as he was great cook Christmas dinner that year was huge event, 20 people, 3 courses, 2 meats.  I will never forgot him slaving away in the kitchen for hours and hours to proudly come out with a platter of meat pouring the wine feeling like the host with the most as his guests tucked into a fantastic banquet  Only to hear me shout across the table, “where's the gravy”.  I don't know who was more XXXXXXed off me for prospect of a dry meal or him for forgetting it.

It is a good job that Australian's are laid back as Grant seemed to be sick, in other words Hung-over more than he worked.  On his Birthday we had a late night and got back in the early hours.  Tim was living with us at this point and was woken by a knock on the door it was Grants boss Dusty owner of Dusty's Removals.  Where's Grant? He asked, Tim said I will check and found him asleep on the kitchen floor, Grant Grant, Dusty's here, time for work. Grant lifted his head turned to Tim and said tell him to F off.  As Tim rightly pointed out there was no need as he had left the door open and Dusty had heard Grant's comments first hand.  Tim who now lives in Sydney called Grants old boss to tell him of his passing, Dusty's response was I am very sorry he was a hard worker and a good man but he drank too much.
Unfortunately Sydney had to come to an end and I had to come home.  The day I left I was crying like a baby at the airport, Grant was buzzing I remember him saying that it was down to him teaching me how to show emotion!  What a doyle!
After Oz I moved to London to start a new job, Grant was back and had a flat in Dalston so I knew I had a place to stay. Before long there was 5 living in his 2 bed flat so we decided to get a larger house.  The palace was the best house in Kennington for a short while until Grant's use of sofa's round the world came back to bite him on the arse.  Everyman and his dog moved in, it got so bad we had an Aussie girl who lived behind the couch in the living room, no one knew her name but she would often stick her head up like a periscope mid East Enders.  The palace only lasted a year or so and then we all went our separate ways, Me to Battersea and Grant to Notting Hill.
So what did I learn about Grant in this time
He was the most generous man when out on the drink not only with his money but with yours as well.
He liked to split the cost of meal, so if you had a salad and he had 3 courses with lobster to start you all paid the same.
The bank of Grant repaid you in hard liquor, normally dark rum, meaning that if he owed you cash he would buy his choice of drink, normally at top dollar from some 24 hour illegal off licence, with his money and say that's us square while drinking what was now your alcohol.
He was a natural salesman due to his love of an argument.  One time in Sheppard's Bush we were holding a debate as to which was the better film, Brave heart or Gladiator. I was supporting Brave heart which I still think is better however table by table he asked every single person in the pub the question and if they gave anything other than Gladiator he argued until they gave in.  By the time we left the whole pub agreed with Grant.
He loved movies, Star Wars, Shaw shank Redemption, Good the Bad and the Ugly, anything by Will Ferrell.  He also liked a foreign film I remember him pitching, Jean De Floret to me and Tim one day, its a French film about a hunch back growing flowers, sounds XXXXXX I know but give it a go in his memory, a great movie.
He loved to hear and introduce to new people the my stories over and over again.  I had a few amusing tales from Oz, known as the Umbrella and the Vodka stories and there was time he would want them performed on queue to any random Stanger.  It always used to make me laugh when he told me off for lack of gusto.  He wanted each performance to be as good as the day it happened, 5 years later.
He was a good judge of character.  I can safely say that anyone he has introduced me as too has always been great and I thank him for these friendships always.

My biggest regret is that he did not make my stag do as it was around the time when he had lost his job and he was too proud to ask for loan!
Every time you have a good drink he will be remembered as he originally named the Rattler.  Normal people would call it anxiety due to dehydration, not Grant it is the Rattler who job it is to torment you as a punishment for your excessive drinking and he arrives in your late 20’s I am sure most of you have already met him.
Brian Grant Angry Harrison had a huge impact on my life he introduced me to my wife and large number of the people who went on to become great friends, most are here today.  He used to call me the brother he never had he gave more to a friendship than any other but expected a lot in return I only hope that that he felt that I was as important to him as he was to me.  Grant you were angry, argumentative, you loved to challenge people to see their reaction but I loved you, rest in peace my friend.
