This 16 year old girl is outstanding, seriously.

(She announced she was from Linthorpe btw)

I was glued to the set admiring her talent. How did achieve that level at such a young age?

I am quite critical of singers, but it takes guts to go up and blast out such a number so perfectly. She will be completely at home with ballads and regular pop favourites.

It was drop jaw time.

I think she is a great credit to our region and an outstanding talent.

You can shoot me down if she does not make it past boot camp but mark my words she will be in the final twelve. No one is anywhere near her yet.

Exceptionally talented local youngster.

Egglescliffe Pot;

Another thing that is on is a movie called 'The Road to Wellville' on ITV 3 I think.

Check it out if you cannot sleep, it is absolutely hilarious.

Shambles7 Posted on 11/09/2011 23:44
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

She was ok, that's it. Basing herself on Christina Aguilera.

God I hate X-Factor. It disguises itself as a 'music' show to mask what it actually is, a glorified karaoke competition strategically timed to ensure the winners reaches the Christmas No1 so they can pass themselves off as 'musicians'.

Ask them to write a song of their own and you get this http://youtu.be/sdbyG2MrBHk

Modern music is XXXXXX. The musicians that deserve coverage (i.e. the ones who craft their own songs that are occasionally about subjects other than nightclubs, girls and drinking) fall by the way because our charts are flooded with this XXXXXX.

By all means good luck to Amelia, I'll get behind anyone from Middlesbough. But I detest the show and the systematic destruction of our music industry as a result of it.

Egglescliffe_pot Posted on 11/09/2011 23:51
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

Very true shambles.
Yes I have watched it (not anymore though) - its unavoidable when you have kids (I pity them if this is most of what they will know).

Constant sob stories as a pre-cursor to the act (this gets the women on side).

That Joe McLeddery didnt last long did he - yet another no mark winner. Shat !

EpiphanyProudfoot Posted on 11/09/2011 23:58
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

She was better than ok Shambles, come on give the girl some credit.

This is a hard business. Many of the previous winners or finalists got dumped by their record companies after about two years if they are lucky (except Will Young and Leona) Even Gareth Gates was shown the door.

The programme can be car crash television, however some of the acts are pure entertainment and ITV are not daft. Jedwood and Wagner were pure comedy but should have progressed at the expense of others.

Dustbin_Man Posted on 12/09/2011 00:04

I have watched Road To Wellville. It is a very funny film with some outstanding performances little brother. But unless I am missing something a producer of cereals and colonic irrigation seem to have little in common with a global talent show franchise.

squarewheelbike Posted on 12/09/2011 00:10
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

"This is a hard business". Yes it is, but these days shows like X Factor etc create the impression of instant fame, for minimal effort and crass statements like "I've been on a journey." Maybe I come from a different era when true performers grafted long and hard to acheive success, and continued to work hard to continue it. So someone sings half a song once a week on some lowest common denominater TV ratings grapper. BFD!

EpiphanyProudfoot Posted on 12/09/2011 00:19
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

These wannabee's know what they are letting themselves in for.

The top 12 finalist should at least be able to get themselves a few gigs around the circuit because they have one foot up over other 'artists'

Acts like Cher LLoyd and Wagner should be able to make a few quid out of it (I would pay to see her as I think she is entertaining)but the others will just fade away once the euphoria has died down.

Record companies don't just hand out contracts and there will be a good chance there will be no contract.

Leona Lewis on the other hand was a total unknown when she walked on the show, next year she will open the Olympics with a song.

At least it gives people a shot, that would normally have had demo tapes just thrown in the bin.

JLinardi Posted on 12/09/2011 00:42

Cher Lloyd is actually signed to Jay-Zs label and has released a single [xx(]

I like x-factor for the people who dont know they are good are blown away by the reactions they get. Also like it when it brings ar5e holes down a step or 6. No matter who gets to the final or whoever wins, the good from the bad always get found out. Most of them have vanished without a trace, while a few have gone on to success, cant see that Matt Cardle doing much either.

Has to be said, she's nowhere near as good as Helen Hammill from Cattle and Cane. They're going about it the right way and will make it through genuine talent and make good music. A lot of self respecting up and coming talents feel that the xfactor is just whoring themselves out etc. I'd tend to agree with them, the motives are all wrong and it's full of fame hungry jerks.

Somebody mentioned Cattle & Cane, smashing example. A hard working band that have no doubt spent endless hours in the practice room crafting their sound. Finally got somewhere with a slot at TITP, yet this years X-Factor winner will get more coverage in one week than C&C will in their whole career. An the X-Factor winner will have not wrote a single line, note or hook themselves.

Last year was the final straw for me I'm afraid. Biffy Clyro do not sing 'When We Collide'.

EpiphanyProudfoot Posted on 14/09/2011 09:18

No need to apologise to the idiots Tom, they will pretty much see you as their poster boy anyway.

Oh and btw, Diane Vickers got the lead role in 'Little Voice' in the West End, Lucie Jones got to play Cosette in Les Miserables, and Leona Lewis will open the Olympics.

XXXXXXe do not get gigs like that, for those who 'actually like music' of course would agree.

deganya Posted on 14/09/2011 09:36

I love music but this show isn't about discovering real talent. It's about a TV show.

Where are Steve Brookstein, Shane Ward,Leon Jackson, Joe McElderry, Matt Cardle? All past winners of the X factor !

However, I do think the lass from Nunthorpe has a decent voice, and will hold her own in this and most probably get some sort of a career out of it. Even if its just singing around the clubs or on cruise liners.

Midosparmo Posted on 14/09/2011 10:41
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

"I love music but this show isn't about discovering real talent. It's about a TV show."

Exactly all the best talent on there already have agents and were lined up for the final before any auditions.

Its a money making exercise for Cowell and publicity for the performers.

The funny thing is when the public throw a spanner in the works and the medicre coonts win [^]

EpiphanyProudfoot Posted on 14/09/2011 10:51
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

Those names still got a shot though, Shane Ward had a number one did'nt he.

This is a tough business, it always will be and yes it is a show.

The reason I mentioned the West End examples is that no theatrical agency/director/producer would let anyone near a stage if they could not handle the pressure or not make the standard. Simon Cowell means nothing in the West End.

Diane and Lucie (who got knocked out by Jedward btw!!!)are real talent, along with Leona. Will Young is boring and should not have come out. Yes I agree there are a lot of one hit wonders there too.

That's unkind. With all your natural dancing talent I'd expect better.

No talent whatsoever.

Not as unkind as your comment. You started it.

Piff, the phrase "know thine enemy" springs to mind....as an arriviste, you are going to look silly.

Since when have I been an 'enemy' ?

You aren't...I shouldn't have to spell out to you what I meant, really.

You (whoever you are) are obviously fairly clever if you have words like 'arriviste' in your vocab.

I am impressed actually.

"The reason I mention the West End examples is that no theatrical agency/director/producer would let anyone near a stage if they could not handle the pressure or not make the standard."

What like say, Martine McCoutcheon or Connie Fisher?

Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

How many 'no shows' did Lucie and Diane accumulate between them then?

Not one.

Martine McCutcheon (McCoutcheon?) still won won best actress for My Fair Lady, despite not completing her contract. She was also an established star in music and television, who would have had a professional stand in. Lucie and Diane are practically out of school!!!

You HAVE to be good to get a gig like that!!!!

You have to be good

squarewheelbike Posted on 14/09/2011 15:06
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

She might have won Best Actress, bit if you're a punter who'd paid for a trip to London especially to see her, but because she didn't follow the old Equity route into the business, she couldn't hack 8 shows a week, then you wouldn't be happy.

It is always announced prior to any show if the understudy will replace. It is a bit like going to Man U and finding out Rooney is on the bench.

The example you gave had a VERY strong cast anyway, plus her under study was as good and keen to impress.

Any show that promotes Jedward and catapults them into the domain wants banning off the TV for life. It was sickening to Louie jumping up and down like a sad old pervy fruit everytime they performed their shoite.
POTATO![:(!]

EpiphanyProudfoot Posted on 14/09/2011 23:51

The show is obviously slightly bent as acts like Jedward and Wagner put bums on seats.

Also, the outstanding Welsh guy Rhydian was defeated in the final by Leon Somebody Jackson? and rather unsportingly declared the result 'fixed'.

I lost faith when Lucie Jones got booted off at the expense of Jedward, Simon Cowell could have saved her. Pathetic.

Would Jedward seriously get a part in something like Les Mis??

Not when someone books tickets months in advance EPF. McCutcheon/Fisher never went down the route of "earning" their Equity cards the proper way,and got found out!

Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

No agent will guarentee a star will be there.
You book to see the show not them.

The biggest names I have seen in the West End are; David Schwimmer, Kristen Johnson, Neve Campbell, Cillian Murphy, Edward Fox, Chris Klein, Freddie Prinze Jnr.

All outstanding on stage and did their contracted stint before going off elsewhere.

Best actress I ever saw was Rosemund Pike.

Martine was in a big show, 6 nights a week plus 2 matinees, must have been frustrating when the 'sick note' rumours started because she is literally made for that role.

squarewheelbike Posted on 15/09/2011 00:54
Amelia from Middlesbrough on the X Factor

Yes EPF, and if she'd earned her Equity card the proper old fashioned way, she would've been up for 8 shows a week, instead of letting punters down on a regular basis. Oh and I know techs who worked the original My Fair Lady, and I think they'll tell you Julie Andrews was made for that role!

The point I'm making is, is that in this post Thatcherite world of ours where Unions have no teeth left, people like McCutcheon and Fisher got gifted into jobs they weren't up to.

It was notable by the next round of Graham Norton hosted who shall we vote into a West End lead role they all had plenty of previous.

As is also the case did any of the stage/sparks/auto's/noise/flymen/SM's/wardrobe etc wimp out on such a regular basis?

Was referring to the fact that she was a London girl who could perfect the accent required as it was her natural tongue. MFL was a big show with a big staff, everyone/part is covered by someone else.

Look I am not defending her, she got the job because she was a name, and had achieved international recognition as singer/actress.
She gets a lot of media work too. Stephen Fry had to cancel a season of solo performances after bad reviews and an attack of nerves.

If a West End show can bag a hollywood star to do a season for far less than they would normally earn then it is a real coup. Many stars see performing live without prompts as a rite of passage.

Btw squarewheel the names I mentioned headlined their shows and totally carried every performance, dominated every scene. Their shows would have been cancelled had they been a sick note.

Martine is a woman as well, say no more.

"Martine is a woman as well, say no more."

EPF. Honestly, you really don't need to tell me how West End musicals, or any other theatre works I know! And quite what you mean by the above statement?

EpiphanyProudfoot Posted on 16/09/2011 14:04

Lets just say, that there is more chance of being a drama if the lead is a female. Not all the time mind, but some of them have a tendency to be a bit high maintenance.

Even in amateur dramatics this is applicable.

You need a really good lead who will be a pro no matter what XXXXXX is going on behind the scenes.

Rosamund Pike and Kristen Johnson stood out for me. Outstanding female leads.

EPF[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Awe bless you're so funny! Trust me it ain't the lasses that turn out to be the biggest Divas!

As for Amdrams, they're just a spotty-dogging collective waste of oxygen!

Some of the Amdrams are not that bad.

Amelia has a better voice than some of the 'Hairspray' 'Mama Mia' 'The Producers' 'Grease' type singers. Seriously.

Bit of training and she could even be Roxy Hart!!
