LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

Hi everyone.

If you go to the Daily Mail website you will find a brilliant article by Richard LITTLEJOHN celebrating the life of Norman Tebbit.

I would cut & paste it for you, but Borolad259 put a stop to that, as he didn't agree with LITTLEJOHN's views.

I would link it, but that's been banned too now as it the views expressed by LITTLEJOHN didn't agree with those of Rob_fmttm. Therefore they are banned on here, despite being read by two million people per day in a best selling national newspaper.

FMTTM admin will be holding a book burning session shortly. If you have any history books or novels that you think may reflect views other than those of the far left, please drop them off at the FMTTM offices as soon as possible, so that they can be destroyed.

Thanks.

So do you agree with Littlejohns views this week Bernie? That the police should use flamethrowers and attack dogs on demonstrators.

Not sure if i'm allowed to answer that without my answer being checked by admin first.

I'll take a risk & say that LITTLEJOHN was being tongue in cheek, but clearly it was a little too subtle for some.

Not overtly trying to be some kind of rebel but are all links to the Daily Mail banned or just them posted by Bernie?

Bernie, why do you write Littlejohn's name in block capitals? Is it some sort of textual homage, as in the practice of Christians referring to God as Him/His, etc?

squarewheelbike Posted on 29/03/2011 12:56
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

So what Bernie is saying is, burning books is bad, but burning people isn't?

Muttley Posted on 29/03/2011 12:57
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

For what it's worth Bernie, (not much I'll warrant) I think banning the posting of links to national newspaper websites is ridiculous and makes admin look petty. Cutting and pasting is an obvious breach of copyright law though.

However intolerable his views he has a right to have them heard (and ridiculed).

Funny it is but I also agree with Muttley. I've never agreed with Bernie but to nav him posting links is childish.

speckyget Posted on 29/03/2011 13:08
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

Tell you what Bernie, instead of pasting or linking, compile a neat précis of the great man's column. Then tell us what you think - strengths and weaknesses. That way we get to learn what your views are for a change and your English composition skills would improve also. It's win/win.

Buddy Posted on 29/03/2011 13:12
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

I think the thing is, EBD, that there's a fine line between posting interesting or topical links, which is what I do regardless of whether they're in the Mail or the Socialist Worker, and simply spamming the board with the same columnist every few days, regardless of the issue, like what Chuckle Minor here does.

Pogatetz_Ate_My_Hamster_ Posted on 29/03/2011 13:13

I agree with Muttley (for once)

Pretty much, yes.

And that's the other thing to remember: that Bernie_is_banned is essentially a character. I'm fairly sure Al Murray has won awards for a similar characterisation - maybe one day we will discover the real person behind Bernie.

red_rebel Posted on 29/03/2011 13:49
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

He hasn't been banned for links to a mainstream daily paper though has he? He has been banned from repeatedly doing it over and over again despite being told not to by the pencil monitor, then given a final stern public finger-wagging by the teacher.

It is just an act of petulant schoolboy defiance now. I reckon he will put his tongue out the minute Rob's back is turned.

LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

Personally I think Bernie's love of Littledick is hilarious and a source of great hilarity to many on the board.

However banning his post for linking to LD's column is appalling if that is the reason it was taken out. Some months ago Boroboy actualy told Bernie to stop cutting and pasting and to post a link to the item if he wished to draw attention to it.

If its now been pulled for doing exactly that then the person responsible for pulling it should have a word with Boroboy and get their act together.

Bernie, this is the best thing you've ever posted.[:D][^]

But if you're being censored - like all true heroes are - then I definitely agree that you should instead sum up what Mr Littlejohn is saying, chipping in with your own views.[^]

Norman Tebbit is my hero. [^]

I was a miserable unemployed toe rag until he told me to get on my bike. I thought he was a little bit of a cheeky so and so at the time, mind.

I took his advice and never looked back. If life is turing out shoite for you, then you too can take Normans advice. [smi]

'I was a miserable unemployed toe rag until he told me to get on my bike.'

Really? So you had to be told by the Norman the Moron to work away from home, otherwise you wouldn't have done it?

Personally, I don't think he should have been banned from doing these links.

Probably not, no.

The idea opened my mind to it.

Dont believe me if you dont want to. I mean, lets not give Nosher and the nasty Torries any credit at all. It spoils the illusion.

jimmythewondercat Posted on 29/03/2011 15:36
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

It is a classic misquote ala Casablanca.

He actually said that his father was unemployed, but instead of rioting he got on his bike and looked for work.

He was refering to the 1930's. And frankly it makes sense in many cases.

Many of us have had to move to find work - why shouldn't we? Not every industry can be based in one location.

We live in a geographically small area historically dependent upon its natural resources and you are never more than a days drive (ish) from Teesside in the UK.

In the US they move thousands of miles.

In Asia they move countries and continents.

On Teesside you sometimes think people believe they have the right to every opportunity within a traffic free 10 mile journey. IMHO.

MawTheMerrier Posted on 29/03/2011 15:38
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

It was the outrage I felt at the time, that stirred me. I thought 'cheeky chunt' saying get on yer bike. I was anchored in Teesside at the time.

"On Teesside you sometimes think people believe they have the right to every opportunity within a traffic free 10 mile journey. IMHO."

I would wager that we have one of the highest percentage of people who work away. Nearly every tradesman has worked away at some time.

jimmythewondercat Posted on 29/03/2011 15:51
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

Exactly what I mean - it wasn't like that when our industries were very labour intensive, but the simple fact is they aren't any more.

'it wasn't like that when our industries were very labour intensive'

It was Jimmy, we've always had people wanting to travel, have a look around etc. We're Teessiders because our ancestors did the same, it's in the genes [:D]

jimmythewondercat Posted on 29/03/2011 16:07
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

I think people are missing my point.

I don't think for a second Mr Tebbit thinks he inspired Teessiders to embark on world travels.

In fact (and much to the chagrin of some on here I would guess) we actually support his premise by our actions and have done for generations. Oops!

junkyard_angel Posted on 29/03/2011 16:08

It sounds like the opposite to what you meant.

Corcaigh_the_Cat Posted on 29/03/2011 16:26
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

Tebbit was suggesting we do something that we'd been doing for decades.

The dullards thought it was his idea. Shame on you. You don't know the people of the area you inhabit.

jimmythewondercat Posted on 29/03/2011 16:47
LITTLEJOHN: On Norman Tebbit's 80th Birthday

I didn't think he ever took credit for the statement or for inspiring Teessides nomadic spirit - in fact it has been used in a derisory context when people comment on the Thatcher era.

I just think that it was one of the more sensible comments to come out of that era. There were more than a few silly ones, but that one rang true with me.

Righto - off to Wembley to watch the England B team with some other exiles. [:o)]

If the Littlejohn links aren't harming anyone, i don't see the problem.

I think the Tebbit quote came after someone in the media suggested that the riots in the early 80's were caused by poverty. Tebbit responded something along the lines of how his father had been unemployed and impoverished during the 30's but hadn't rioted. He' gone out on his bicycle looking for work & hadn't stopped till he found some.

All the people whining about the possibility and unfairness of Bernie being banned seem to forget - this site is privately owned and the owner can make and enforce whatever rules he wants. If he changes his mind mid-sentence he can do that too! It isn't a democracy and if I owned it I'd ban the troll in a second. Same goes for anyone who displayed the vitriolic xenophobia that Bernie Chuckle does.

In the thread that was pulled I asked what point Littlejohn was making when he told the story of Tebbit arriving at Kings Cross to be surrounded my masses of Millwall supporters. Expecting trouble, he was pleased to find that that they cheered him to the rafters. What comfort could Tebbit (or BiB for that matter) salvage from the fact that he was admired by a bunch of fascist skinheads?
