Dont quite understand this league split thing. Is it like North v South then? Why loyalty to one set of teams?
12_Afonso Posted on 06/02/2011 18:28
Cheeseheads v Steeler Nation
No North/South, its split into NFC and AFC, each conference has a north, south, east and west division.
enigma17 Posted on 06/02/2011 18:29
Cheeseheads v Steeler Nation
There's two conferences, AFC and NFC. 16 teams in each, split into 4 groups of 4. You play home and away against each of your group teams plus another 10 from teams from other groups (from both conferences). Superbowl is winner of the AFC v NFC winner. I'm backing the NFC winner because Redskins are an NFC team.
CardiffDaffs Posted on 06/02/2011 18:30

How is it split then? Who decides who goes into which Conference?
enigma17 Posted on 06/02/2011 18:31
Cheeseheads v Steeler Nation
The history of it is that there were two separate organisations, AFL and NFL. They merged into the NFL as we know it today in 1970 but always kept separate conferences to ensure rivalries weren't lost.

Definitely, unless Legursky steps up and does something incredibly special in his position, I can only see it being detrimental to Pittsburgh. On a side note, my one game Ive been to at Lambeau was against the Redskins...Charles Woodson returned an interception for a TD ![]()

May be a simplistic way of looking at it, but if Rogers performs and Polamalu has a quiet game (if thats possible?), and if the Packers keep Harrison and Farrior in check - its theirs for the taking ![]()

I would agree enigma, was just about to post about him staying injury free. His pocket presence in the Atlanta game was frightening. If we stick receivers on the field (Our 4WR packages, etc), I think Pittsburgh may struggle.

Cheeseheads v Steeler Nation
On the topic of Harrison, is it just me who thinks he's a thug? I'm not advocating for harsher rules on hard tackling - far from it - but he seems intent on injuring people sometimes. Those helmet hits earlier in the year against the Browns were sickening. He's an excellent player and I'm not campaigning for his exclusion from the league by any means, I just thought the objections to his fines were ridiculous and unjustified.

Cheeseheads v Steeler Nation
Thug may be a bit harsh, but his actions are "questionable". Tackles high frequently, which is pretty stupid as he's a marked man now. Does come across as a petulant knóbhead like. Pity 'cos he is one of the best LB's in the league.

0% chance of a lockout. The NFLPA will cave if needs be, no 2011 would hit the players just as bad as the communities. I think they'll get it done amicably though. 18 game season, changes to revenue splits, rookie caps amongst other things can be expected.

Green Bay's gonna win. They're a dome team that has to play outdoors. The turf in Cowboys stadium will be perfect for their speed and I think they'll be too quick. If I had money on this, it would be on the Packers, but, in reality, it comes down to the defences rather than the QBs. Will the Steel Curtain get at A-Rodg or will he be able to get out of the pocket and move around. Will Clay Matthews get at Big Ben? I think that the Packers are just too good. Normally, I would say the Steelers, as they are an AFC team and I'm a huge Bills fan. I even wanted the Patsies to beat up on the Giants, but in the case the romanticism of the Packers will win me over. The pre-match coverage started 2 hours ago here in the states but I haven't tuned in, got up and watched the Chelski game and now I'm watching the Eng-Aus 1-dayer from last night. Steelers by at least 10 They are the more complete team and they've been to the big game so many times in the past few years it's almost a regular season game for them. Tbh I'm a little surprised that the Packers are being given the favourites tag considering the Steelers have the experience and the Packers stumbled into the play-offs. ok here's a couple of scenarios. If the first overtime play results in a safety will the conceding team get a chance to kick off (for that matter what are the rules on trying to recover the ball at a free kick which is something you would never see in a normal game) Or if the first ot kick off is recovered by the kicking team and then there is a field goal will the conceding team get a chance at their own onside kick ?
doireboro Posted on 06/02/2011 22:08

If there's a safety, the game is over and the team getting the safety wins. I'm actually not too sure about the onside kick one though. Never really thought about that situation coming up! Good question.

The game itself was awesome and I was in a private box going mental . The next day I met all the Bills players at a private function and the day after that, saw the Bills lose 10-3 to the niners in the worst NFL game I've ever seen. sorry even then I got it wrong. They would not have to onside kick because they would be the receiving team still. Think the half time tie, full time GB, or half time tie, full time Steelers at about 25/1 each bet is interesting value, could be level at the break, then you got 25/1 on either team. Right. I don't know anything about NFL, but I had a bit read today, as I'm quite interested in tonight's game. Apparently, there's a QB for the Steelers who's really good, but 'cos he's a bit gropey, nobody likes him anymore, and there's some American journo who predicted prior to the season starting it would be these two teams contesting the Superbowl, and he's gone for a 33-27 Steelers win. This is all I know.

Both QB's are very good. Big Ben (Steelers) has done it in big games more than the more untested Rodgers(GB) but I think Rodgers is the better overall QB. Think it has a chance to be a great game though and thats all you can ask for now. 31-24 Packers I'll say.

The Jones drop could prove a big one, he would have been on for a TD. Mendenhall runs in and this is setting up for a great finish. ![]()

With Woodson out, my money at this point would go on the Steelers....

I could have made a better kick than that. Leaves it a better chance for overtime though,

Shaun Suisham, the only guy not good enough for the Redskins. How's he still in the league? Where's Mike Vanderjagt?

It was a catch by our standards, but not by the NFL's. Normally they say you need 3 steps for it to be ruled a catch....

Cheeseheads v Steeler Nation
I think it's a fair enough rule. A receiver should have sufficient control of the ball.

Of course, but it's all about where you draw the line and the NFL is way too cautious for my liking. That one for me was right on the line...

Congrats to doireboro for his prediction. He had 31-24, not realising they'd go for a 2 point conversion. Congrats to the Pack - thoroughly deserved!!

Excellent Super Bowl in the end, Packers deserved it. Steelers made it difficult for themselves with the interceptions but they almost got the comeback, they must be gutted. Nice to see Rodgers lift the trophy though. ![]()
