..can anyone describe to me what a Preservation Manager is/does?

it can come in a number of forms, electronic, digital, hard copy, photographic etc etc etc etc etc,

Obviously, it is all down to the job but I'm sure that some of you guys will have an idea of where this sort of role stands in the rate pecking order...

Even working for North Sea companies these positions pay higher in the Oil and Gas industry than they would in the public sector.

Abroad always pays more than at home, and most contracts you get to negotiate your own salary.

Which means you head off for your new position thinking you are earning big money, until you get out there and realise people doing they same job as you negotiated a little better than you did.

No, not everybody does, although a lot talk about what type of alloys etc they're buying for their Range Rover Sport/ Porsche Cayman.

Not everybody is money obsessed offshore[:(!]

I think you'll find a Preservation Manager does a bit more than look after records etc...this is a typical job definition of a preservation engineer ...so you would be in charge of these types....


: Mechanical Preservation Engineer

Purpose:
Provides the client point of organizational contact on Sites for the coordination of contractors and support activities related to preservation workscopes and provides expertise to enable definition and implementation of best solutions for preservation of plant and equipment.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
The job holder is responsible for:
- Providing the client interface on site for the inter departmental coordination of all activities related to preservation requirements.
- Providing follow up and control on activities performed by preservation contractors and vendors
- Planning HUC support requirements for preservation workscopes on site.
- Providing expertise to support the implementation of site preservation strategies.
- Providing technical expertise on site to enable continuous improvement in the delivery of department objectives.
- Ensuring accurate recording and reporting of preservation work carried out on site.
- Ensuring effective look-ahead planning of the preservation work to be carried out on site.
- Mentor Company's National junior staff on site.
- Ensuring site compliance with all client and RoK policies and procedures relating to preservation activities.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma / Equivalent Qualification in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines
- MANDATORY Minimum of 10 years experience in maintenance activities in the Oil and Gas Industry, with at least five years in a supervisory position on site.
- Experienced in the installation, control and repair of plant and equipment.
- Knowledge in areas of preservation techniques.
- Knowledge of Preventive and Predictive maintenance techniques.
- Experience in machinery problem analysis.
- Knowledge of cost evaluation and monitoring.
- Knowledge of local and International codes and regulations regarding machinery and associated systems and equipments.
- Computer literate.
- Fluent written and spoken English.

Required Competencies:
The job Holder must have proven:
- Contractors coordination and supervisory ability.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to write effective reports.
- Abilities to work in team environments, communicating and understanding team dynamics within a multi-functional and multi-national team environment.
- Team leading abilities and attitude, including National Staff mentoring.
- Analytical skills.
- Strong commitment to Safety and Safe Working Practices.

Working Conditions:
Rotation type is 28/28, all found flights food and accommodation
