I'm surprised it's taken so long to clamp down on it. Surely it's being going on for years with the swipe card turnstiles.

2. Confiscate season cards? If they were season rocket holders they wouldn't be buying individual tickets you thick cu. nt

Juno, the other 19,000 of us pay the going rate. These people are getting the same product as the rest of us but for a reduced price. That's just taking the pee out of those of us who pay full whack.

If i worked for the club this would be telling me that tickets are too expensive for this standard of football.
The 20 who were caught i would imagine won't be going back in a hurry as £23+ obviously is too expensive for them.

Supply and demand - nobody is forced to go and watch the match. You know you're paying £23 or whatever it is. Unless you are very naive, you should also know that there has never been much guarantee about the quality of the product on offer. It's a fine line between "marketing" and "contractual obligation" I suppose. Fancy testing it in court? It'll only cost you about half the price of a season ticket.

Why do they have to publicise such a pitiful loss of revenue at a sensitive time. Make them appear as money-obssessed. They could covertly carry out a clamp down on match-days.

People on here kindly donated more than the club potentially lost but they don't appear to be making a big thing out of positive news! Marketing/Customer Care/ Tact is a joke at MFC!

You wouldnt saunter into the cinema on a kids ticket, or go to alton towers and try and do the same so why is it perfectly ok at a football club...?

Im not condoning it or would do it. For me it's Ron Turnbull / Sue Watson and their mob that get me wound up not so much the rest of the club. This dept have form for it.

The_263's post is spot on.

I also wonder why they went for the South East again.

“If this practice continues on this scale, the club will have no option but to confiscate Season Cards without refund.” Says Ron

1. "On this scale".... 0.001% wow!

2. "No option but to confiscate without refund"..... There are always other options.

Do numptys like this ever think about English in their statements before releasing to the press or public?

What sort of lame excuse is that??

'they're getting some cash aren't they?'

Some tool closes the shop when I wanted to buy a shirt.

Theft, simple as that. If you want to make some sort of protest about the price of tickets do so, but don't paint this as anything other than it is, stealing. Exactly. I might go into the paper shop later and think, well they aren't going to sell all these papers, I know I'll chuck 5p on the counter and walk out. Seems fair enough as they are still getting something.

Or maybe charity collectors should try on the old £1 for the box, £1 for me routine. The charity is still making money after all.

Doesn't matter what lame excuses people put forward for doing this in an attempt to justify their actions, largely to themselves, it's shafting the club.

Same fans will probably be moaning about a lack of transfer activity within a couple of months too.

Listen, these lads who use a junior ticket must be a similar young age, in order to try it on. young lads at that age dont have much dosh. Maybe its the only way they can afford to go.

The moot point is: at least they go!!! Fans for the future. One day they will grow up and pay full whack, but not if they dont get "the bug".

Fuchsake, they should be let in for £5 at that age. There is an arguement to PAY them for watching that shyyyte on the pitch.

Main point here, and one that has been cited above a few times, is that the club could have investigated this covertly and delicately. Why don't they just police it properly rather than publicising it? Perhaps they sould be considering harnessing a relationship with its fans rather than publicising something negative? Although the football industry is different to other industries opposite its client base you always sell on the strength of relationships. Those relationships are vital when the product quality dives south for whatever reason.

"insult thereby revealing a lack of argument"

coming from someone who calls people 'pricks' for backing the club on it.

The club is run as a business, the prices are set for adults, and the prices are set for kids - end of story, no if buts or maybes.

The very same people who are doing this wouldnt dream of doing it in ANY other situation yet because the club arent doing as well as before and the crowds arent there it should be perfectly ok to screw the club over - even if it is relative peanuts in the whole scheme of things.

Grrreds Posted on 02/11/2010 17:06

If the club would rather have an empty seat than the money I payed for an under18's then they can do one.

If there was a big demand for tickets, or they closed blocks off like Leeds do then fair enough Id agree with them. But I cant afford full price tickets and the club sound like they can afford with more silence in the stadium. Well done Boro.

Agree corgi. The ticket pricing at MFC is at fault. Most championship clubs have much better offers than us.In my particular case, unlike the majority of championship clubs MFC do not give a concession for senior citizens until 65 years of age.I am 63 and retired at 60, so am a senior citizen.I had to relinquish my season ticket when I retired as I could no longer afford it.I am sure there a many in my situation.I can attend away matches and pay for travel for the same price as buying a ticket for home matches. This only serves to prove how little MFC values their supporters.

Grrreds Posted on 02/11/2010 17:13
MFC Junior Ticket Abuse Clampdown

If the club acquiesce to this then I shall be seeking a massive refund on my season card.

Because, being over 18, I paid the over 18 price.

Big_Shot Posted on 02/11/2010 17:17
MFC Junior Ticket Abuse Clampdown

This has been going on for years, and its not young lads who can't afford it that that are doing it. Everyone I know who has done it are all blokes who are wanting to get in on the cheap. I know of one bloke who had a kids season ticket for a good few seasons and whenever he was pulled up, which was rare, he'd say oh I've give my son the wrong one can you go and get him, and they'd let him in. So, personally I've never really been bothered about it going on. Infact there was a long thread about this a few years back where TurnbullsCans was strongly arguing against it, and others, including me, didn't see the big deal.

However, if you do it then you run a risk of getting caught. And if you are, then you have no complaints as you were doing wrong. So even as someone who doesn't see it as the crime of the century, I'm amazed people are moaning about the club for catching and stopping people from doing it. I find grown fellas getting caught with a kids ticket quite funny actually.

DanielJackson Posted on 02/11/2010 17:18

While Im at it I might decide not to find the money for 2 shirts every year.

I bet theres loads of people on Teesside who would love to be able to just find the money, currently theyre all empty seats.

Perhaps it should focus its efforts on finding more about its fanbase rather than a few measley tenners that are going missing from the coffers. Again, negative stuff shouldn't be publicised like this. That's my opinion.

I blame Sky and the prawn sandwich brigade for the attitude being displayed here, didnt see the season ticket holders at Ayresome park showing outrage at kids getting a squeeze or jumping over the holgate wall.

If the club choose to make concessions for various groups of people i have no problem with it and nor do I think would lots of people.

But, why should you pay less than me for the same priced seat just because you choose to be dishonest and hide behind the 'can't afford it argument'.

Like I said, If there were massive ques at the ground and a demand for tickets then I would be preaching a different story, but theres 1000's of empty seats that number will get bigger by the club saying these things.

Daniel, if the world operated on a 'honour' scheme of purchasing where you just paid what you could, that would be alright but we don't.

I don't really see what we can do about that though. The club seem to constantly score PR own goals and further alienate a decreasing fanbase. I'd like to see a big gesture such as free tickets for the unemployed or some kind of incentive to fill the ground rather than new rules and restrictions.

I spent the last 2 seasons with my daughters card. She is 12. She used mine never been stopped or questioned.

While I agree you should not be ripping off the club but, if you go to every game and there is loads of seats I have no problem with it. At least your going every game and surrporting the club.

If you are buying a one off ticket and not prepared to pay the upgrade (3 people) then I have no sypathy and you should be banned from buying any further tickets.

Can you beleive they decided to do this in the SEC. You would think the club have a problem with these fans. Out of all of them 20 were caught 7 paid to upgrade and 3 said Phuck it. I get the feeling the club were gutted there was only a few who cheated the system. They would have loved to make a song and dance about the red faction cheating the club.

How come that doesn't apply to under 18s then? Because those who are over 18 but are pretending they are not are acting in the same small minded way - begrudging under 18s getting something they cannot.

boro74 Posted on 02/11/2010 18:13

I think the reason the club publicised this was as a deterrent. Now they know they can get caught, less people might do it.

As regards free tickets for unemployed, it's a non starter. Steve Gibson was asked about cheaper tickets for unemployed and he said categorically no, why should people be penalised just because they have a job? He sees it from the point of view that people that work shouldn't have to pay more than people that don't.

Boro have an excellent scheme for kids tickets. They can get in cheap all over the ground. In germany it's only in certain sections and the discount is not as much.

They've issued it as a warning so that people don't turn up thinking they can get away with it and get banned, complaining that they didn't realise they can get banned.

Of those asked to pay the extra, the majority did, so from the club's point of view, it's a financial gain.

As for the political side of things, what's more I'm alright Jack than trying to do this in the first place??

What I *do* have a problem with is people pretending they are one of those less fortunate.

If they gave free entry to people on the dole, would it be ok for people who had a job to claim they were on the dole so they got in free? Why is it any different to people pretending they are under 18?

I'm surely not being too controversial when I suggest that help should be available for those less well off but it's one thing helping people into work but another paying for them to get a nice Sky subscription, nights out on the town or, in this case, match tickets.

for me the issue is why they felt the need to post it on the website. the matter was dealt with there and then. i have been in loads of times on an under 18's ticket....mainly due to the fact that i honestly couldn't afford the £23 for an adults ticket. for me that says more about the pricing structure than anything. on the back of the ponce sorting out all those tickets and the spirit shown by fans and the club are sweating over a couple of quid. try reducing the number of stewards - almost 1 per fan these days. failing that fine the players 20 seconds of their wages - that should cover it.

No I wouldn't but I don't have a passion about apple that I have for MFC. So your view is that only people with money can go to the boro games? I was 19 and couldn't afford an adults ticket so used to go in on a kids 1. What's the big deal? If I could of afforded an adults ticket I would of paid for it. Never known a bunch of fans so snobby as ours. Scared incase someone is getting a better deal than them.I had an adult season ticket last year and would have no problem with the club opening he gates and letting kids in who couldn't afford it. Is it there fault they are born in to poverty and will never get the chance to go to a game? Idiot

STEEL_CITY_SMOGGY Posted on 03/11/2010 13:15

Think if you were in a queue in a shop and somebody was buying the same item as you in front of you, they get charged £15 and then you step up and get charged £25 for it. Would you be happy?

No, nobody would and it wouldn't matter who they were or what walk of life they came from would it. So why is it different for anything else, you wouldn't accept it anywhere else so why football?

However the fact that the club have brought it to attention on the official website is pathetic. There will always be some scrotes looking to abuse the system, that is just the way life is. I used to get in myself on a kids ticket at Sheffield Wednesday whilst at uni but the fact people can get away with it doesn't make it right does it. So it is completely understandable why people are XXXXXXed off about it.

You wouldnt do it in ANY other situation yet cos it's football it's perfectly ok.

A lot of you obviously don't know much about whats going on inside YOUR club...

The club sells hundreds of cheap tickets every week to local school and football teams through their 'Group Sales' team...

If the club didn't clamp down on this activity then it would set a precedent and everyone would be doing it...therefore losing out on even more money!

When you walk through a turnstile with your 'Junior' ticket, does the Steward look at you and instantly know whether you could have afforded an adult ticket? No he doesn't...so just be a man, be an adult, and pay the going rate! [DFS]

If you do end up abusing the system in future, don't whinge like a girl when you get kicked out or have other action taken against you, what do you expect? That is what is most annoying, not the fact that people get in for the cheaper, it is the fact they think they have a right to abuse the system which 99% of people abide by.
