..said the area will not be beaten down by spending cuts.

Well done Ray.

We must not let people continually talk our area down, we are in no worse position than many other old industrial places up and down the country and have some distinct advantages over some.

Wilton has a licence to produce any old XXXXXXe, lets get the big companies onboard.

I think that's a good point Jonny, we actually like heavy industry here in contrast to 99% of the rest of the country.

Best ignore anything Ray Mallon has to say, if there is money in it for him he may attempt to do something about it.

Spot on.

Wilton could set up a plant burning AIDS soaked bandages to make a CHP plant and no one would bat an eye lid.

I thought it was yet another downbeat look at the Boro.

Middlesbrough is easy fodder for a negative news story. Same as usual.

TC - it was a very negative news slot about Middlesbrough, the taxi driver bit was disgraceful going through an isolated area of boarded up and fire damaged houses. The national media do seem to like knocking this area for some reason.

That's why I thought Mallon was so good - very positive and forward looking.

Nobody should be surprised that Boro is rolled out on any news media as the stereotypical example of social negativity.

Certainly not the first, certainly won't be the last.

Same old shyte. F'ck em.

What was he saying?

It's all very well Mallon saying things like that but he should be talking about what he personally is doing to either attract companies to the area or at the very least that he is pestering the government for support and assistance.

I'll admit now that I haven't seen the interview so if he has said this sort of thing then I'd be interested to know about it.

MARK EASTON'S REPORT WAS ABSOLUTELY BANG ON. The reality aka the truth is that there is less wealth and less prospects here than much of Britain. Its a fact and has been for a long time. We have a massive percentage of working class and now underclass for want of a better word. Its been a fact for a long tiem. Other areas have greater diversity and a greater tradition of people having money! Yes we have an art gallery which costs MBC to run it and generates little interest or money for the town. Yes we have BOHO 1 and a bunch of digital/animation company - they employ VERY FEW mainly ex-students form elsewhere and will never be on a scale of a Nissan plant employing 1000s! Fact. And Temenos is the great non-event at a cost 2.7m. Faced with the epic problems that Mbro faces in terms of jobs, economy and all the other social ills, it is ridiculous to cite modern art as the messiah! Mallon/ Tees Valley Unlimited are in a perpetual state of delusional regenerational psychosis! Ten years of Tees Valley has failed and they cannot admit it.

To be honest I'm sick of coming out the club at night and seeing Mars and Venus. In the old days it was grey skies and a smell of shyte. Then you knew you had a job!

Today in Parliament has just been reporting on the effects that spending cuts will have on the 'city of Middlesbrough'. Where's that?
