This creation of artificial life in a laboratory..

sounds to me like it could not have been done without the use of an existing living cell.

So while it is clearly a big 'invention' it is not quite the full creation of life is it?

Or is it?

Any scientists out there who can comment further (keep it in layman's terms please)?

When a Mummy bacterium and a Daddy bacterium love each other very much the Daddy bacterium puts his flagellum in the Mummy bacterium's nucleus. Three minutes later 250000 baby bacteria are born [^]
