Riggott to get new contract ?

This a good thing ? If he stays fit next season, him and McManus (if we sign him) would be a quality defence in this league. Then we also would have Wheater.

Wind up.

always rated riggot as a good player , sign him up

Riggott to get new contract ?

Yes, because im sure Strachan is winding us up when he says he wants him to stay ?

Riggott to get new contract ?

I like Riggott, injuries to one side he's been pretty consistent and a loyal player. Deserves a contract and he is definitely one we should be keeping.

Riggott to get new contract ?

if we keep jones then we need a boss in the back 4

pogi
wheater
mick (if he stays )

are all too quiet
riggot is like a team leader, does XXXXXX all but gets others to work quite well

I'd have him back.

Riggott to get new contract ?

If I had missed as much work as Chris Riggott has over the past nine years I think my employers would have moved me on by now, so its a NO from me. A good player when fit, but not fit long enough.

Riggott to get new contract ?

If I had to sit in the north stand and pay 27 to watch you on grass, I would take my money and go to asda. However, if Id seen you score against stau bucharest in the uefa cup, and provide good entertainment and loyalty Ide extend your contract.

BTW, is your employer Newcastle United?[;)]

Lurcher Posted on 27/04/2010 08:49
Riggott to get new contract ?

No doubting he's a good guy, loyal and competent when on the pitch but unfortunately too injury prone, reluctantly I'd let him go.

Hercules Posted on 27/04/2010 08:59
Riggott to get new contract ?

The only way I would consider it is on a pay-as-you-play deal.

He's good enough to get us out of this league but he's played 5 games this season. 5 games.

Say he's on 20,000 a week. That's 200,000 a game.

It's not as if this is a one-off either. He hasn't been fit for years.

Let him move on and bring in somebody who can play more often.

grantus Posted on 27/04/2010 09:04
Riggott to get new contract ?

Apart from one purple patch early on in his time with us I don't think he's been a very good player for us at all, he's costed us more goals than any centre half should and has been a liability due to switching off more times than I care to remember. Saying that, the championship is his level.

bear66 Posted on 27/04/2010 09:06
Riggott to get new contract ?

When was the last goal he was responsible for? Your memory may be a problem though.

Hercules Posted on 27/04/2010 09:11
Riggott to get new contract ?

He was pretty poor in the Premier League bear66.

You can't expect people to remember over a year ago, too vividly. And he hasn't been at fault for any this year because he'd barely played.

bear66 Posted on 27/04/2010 09:18
Riggott to get new contract ?

I thought he was our best defender at the start of the 2008/2009 season . . . so, although he hasn't played too many games, he's been good for two seasons. Arguably, this performance is even more creditable as he's had to come back rusty many times.

I do agree that his injury record isn't satisfactory to establish a consistent team selection though; that's probably been a significant issue this season.

that_be_me Posted on 27/04/2010 09:19
Riggott to get new contract ?

SELL HIM AND GET KILGALLON FROM SUNDERLAND

bear66 Posted on 27/04/2010 09:20
Riggott to get new contract ?

I think he's out of contract and Kilgallon, a poorer defender but hopefully fitter, would cost money

Hercules Posted on 27/04/2010 09:21
Riggott to get new contract ?

I thought he was our best defender at the start of the 2008/2009 season . . . so, although he hasn't played too many games, he's been good for two seasons.

a) It's only your opinion that he's been our best defender for 2 years and I'd guess you're in the minority there.

b) It's a stretch to say it's 2 seasons because I doubt he's played 20 games in those 2 seasons.

Compared with him, Robert 'glass ankle' Huth looks invincible.

jpk2412 Posted on 27/04/2010 09:27
Riggott to get new contract ?

I cant believe what im reading. Give him a new contract !! I wouldnt pay him by the minute, why do people think a player who has only played a handfull of games is going to change his attitude and start playing again, does anyone believe its injuries.

Hercules Posted on 27/04/2010 09:29
Riggott to get new contract ?

Why do you think it's his attitude rather than injuries that has kept him out?

Always seems like a decent bloke in interviews, who wants to play and is frustrated with his injury problems.

fatsuma Posted on 27/04/2010 09:33
Riggott to get new contract ?

I suspect Riggott will be offered a new contract.

As will Wheater.

However, I think that the former is more likely to stay at Boro beyond the summer than Wheats!

bear66 Posted on 27/04/2010 09:35
Riggott to get new contract ?

I think you're right as Wheater will generate some money.

fatsuma Posted on 27/04/2010 09:38
Riggott to get new contract ?

He will also be looking at former youth team mates and colleagues: Morrison, Brunt, Parnaby, Murphy, Cattermole, Johnson and Downing playing in the Premier League and thinking......."Why them, and not me?!"

red_shamrock Posted on 27/04/2010 09:41
Riggott to get new contract ?

So you`d see Wheater out the door Before Riggott...dear me.

fatsuma Posted on 27/04/2010 09:53
Riggott to get new contract ?

No.

I wouldn't.

And I didn't say that I would.

I was speculating.

"Dear me"!

Our last 2 performances have suggested that, contrary to club-spin, Wheater has been actually been helping McManus as much as the other way round.

I do suspect that Wheater will leave. He'll be sad to go, but it will be the best thing for him.

Sadly.

sasboro1 Posted on 27/04/2010 09:56
Riggott to get new contract ?

if mcmanus isnt staying and there is a good chance wheater is going and pogi might be leaving then we do need to keep riggot. probably be on reduced wages.
it would be a disaster if all 4 centre backs leave. it would leave a big hole and set back our chances of promotion before the season has kicked off

red_shamrock Posted on 27/04/2010 09:56
Riggott to get new contract ?

Are things still that bad at the club Fatsuma, Id like to keep him.

Hercules Posted on 27/04/2010 09:59
Riggott to get new contract ?

sas, it could be argued that if we were to lose McManus, Pogatetz and Wheater it is even more imperative that the few centre backs we have should all be relatively consistent with regards to their fitness.

Freeing up Riggott's wages would be a good way to fund this.

fatsuma Posted on 27/04/2010 10:03
Riggott to get new contract ?

So would I red_shamrock.

But it's not our decision. It's his, his advisor's, the Manager's and the Chairman's.

I doubt he'll commit before next January - and in view of Strachan's comments about avoiding the situation with Adam Johnson, we'll be sold.

sasboro1 Posted on 27/04/2010 10:05
Riggott to get new contract ?

if riggot is struggling to find a club which matches his wages then we can go back to him with vastly reduced wages, same for pogi. then we have saved quite a few million on transfrer fees then spend a few quid more on one quality centreback

we still need a squad with some depth for a promotion push. if all 4 centrebacks leave then that means we need to find 3 decent centrebacks as good as the 4 leaving. tough job to do if we want to make a flying start next season.

in a perfect world we can let everyone go and have their replacements lined up in plenty of time. but we know how difficult it is to sign players these days

roofie you are a grade A K nob........not remoteley funny or constructive. That will be all !!

Riggott to get new contract ?

Bear66 is right, last season Riggot put in some very good performances early on before being sidelined by injury.

When he's fit he is a high quality centre back, as good as Pog who has had more than his fair share of injuries as well.
