Haven't watched it all (there seem to be a few versions). Supposedly shows civilians and journalists being killed in in Iraq by the US via Apache gunship. All over the internet at the moment.

Haven't gone for the direct link, easy enough to find on YouTube

I watched the full version about 1/2 hour ago! The pilots and crew all seem to be lying out of their cheap ar5es just so they can murder some innocents! The pilot can be distinctly heard saying he can see persons with explosives and AK47's. There were 2 cameramen carrying cameras over their shoulder in camera bags. Everyones hands can be clearly seen, and clearly made out NOT to be carrying ANY weapons of ANY sort! Murdering low lifes![V][V]I wish there was a smilie for "VERY VERY fooookin annoyed"!

video is disgraceful tbh.. [V]yeh there is terrorism amongst us around the world but what the video shows is not the way to go about it and is just as bad as murder!!!... they are just trying to find any reason in the video to kill them men for nothing [V].. what worse is seeing an innocent vehicle driven to help a wounded civilian to carry them away containing children and they shoot at that too!

looked like a guy with a rocket launcer behind the wall to me! seems like a camera man wanting an exclusive then getting caught up in his own story!

got to admit though, some of the commentry after the main shooting seemed a bit much "can we engage the wounded man" ect

still, fog of war, theyre out there doing the nasty stuff so we dont have to and can sit at home judging their actions!

in the words of Colonel Nathan Jessep "You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!"[:P]

Dear World,

You can either have wars or not have them. You don't get to nit-pick over the bad bits of wars because the whole thing is a bad bit.

See also: Bad things happen when guns are around even when everyone thinks people can be trusted with them to always do the right thing.

exactly!!.. i'd like to see what would happen if this happened lets say in america... what sort of reaction there would be... hwo it take 3 years for this sort of thing to come out... if it happened in america the following hour there would be hell on and made into something that is a massacre... but ohh no coz were involved in a bullXXXXXX war innocent murders are only a little problem. i'd like to see how you would feel if a helicopter was flying above your house right now and shoot someone you know on your road outside your house. The other thing is the helicopter wasn't even under attack, there was no engagement from the "enemy" nor was there sign of this. As a post from above you can clearly see there hands, you can tell they are only carrying cameras, and the children point, you can clearly see the children are in the van as the video zooms in and shows us this, surely they have access to this equipment on board the helicopter....

so a guy with a long RPG like object walking over to wher ethe reporter is, then you see a guy kneeling behind a wall! I dunno but it looks like a RPG to me.

Military conduct or rules of engagement? which one?

rules of engagement (british anyway) usually require the person to have no doubt that life is threatened, and you can only open fire without warning if they think that to give warning will further increase the threat to life. thats in a peace time scenario, i am sure in a war time scenario its a little bit more ambiguous as to when you can fire!

how much do you know about rules of engagement?

I think it's easy to watch a video from a like this and comdemn people for doing the job they're trained to do in high pressure situations.

We call these people 'heroes' for being out there, getting shot at and risking their lives every day. Well this is the flipside of it. It's a war zone and people - sometimes the wrong people - get shot.

If I was out there, with a couple of Apaches circling overhead, I think I'd be a bit more careful in the way I acted. And I certainly wouldn't drive a couple of kids in a van into a battleground.

Looking at that video I can't say for certain that they have guns or rpgs, but neither can i say they don't. If my life was on the line, I'm not sure I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

What a fcuk up.

Some men did look armed to me, one looked to be carrying a RPG and a couple of others looke like they were carrying weapons.

So in a live war arena they were correct to engage.

What I can't fathom is why they opened up on the vehicle that came to help, the men weren't armed and were obviously there to help.

And seeing that for yourself, did you see the kids in the car? I didn't, well not till it was zoomed in and pointed out.

You'd hope that if they spotted the kids they wouldn't have engaged.

Tragic.

Yes that's my point, we could only see what they could, so what I'm saying is if they had spotted the kids you'd hope that they wouldn't have opened up on the van, it's obvious they didn't (like us) see the kids but they were hellbent on hitting it.

On the other-hand though, you'd think they would have been trained to look for such things.

As for the argument on here about was it or wasn't it an RPG, if I was in that helicopter and there was a chance of being shot down, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I think what was being said that if they had seen the kids you'd hope they wouldn't have engaged... you seem to have completely misunderstood the statement.

Take a stupid boy, who doesn't ask himself enough questions, and who doesn't investigate possibilities beyond those he wants to see, then put him in a helicopter gunship on a mission to seek and destroy "insurgents", and this is what you get.
He saw guns because he wanted to see guns. The guy behind the wall clearly has a camera with a telephoto lens, not an RPG...but if you want it to be an RPG, it can definitely look like one.
The hurry to fire on this group of people is just plain gung ho, "gerrintoem" stuff. No intelligence at all.
But that's war for you.

oryt yeh take him out maybe in the heat of the moment b coz u fink ur under threat fair enuff... but why carry on in the manner which they did e.g at the van and the way they spoke ?.. what threat did the van and the men in the van and children carry ?.... loada crap, people just want to see what they want to think as some comments are above. I'm sure highly trained soliders would no the difference between a man with a look a like rpg so eliminate him fair enuff and a van who is picking up the wounded and containing children.

Well you assume they do but the reality is that they are just human and infallible. This is why you shouldn't kill people or have wars. Because some people think they'll be able to have a PG rating at all times.

oryt so coz ther only "human" its oryt to act like 10 year olds on a computer game killing ppl. Like to see how you would feel if tht was ur dad, brother, nephew, son etc... aww nor its okay tho coz theyre only human and the word common sense doesn't matter. Loada crap and people know it but people just refuse to see it as they are brain washed wit a load of XXXXXX. They dont even see the fact that the war is a load of crap in the first place, a country which we lick the bum hole of, are just money and oil crazy and america are the only true country in the world who are full of greed and want power and half of the stuff that happens in thsi world what people read about is through there control... signs and evidence is all there.. simple and end of.

Similar mentatlity to them american pricks. Maybe understand now why you think in your mind they are no in the wrong, see some similarities. Go join them and live in the past by thinking "them" lot saved us in past world wars go lick ther bum nect thing yano they will be killing your son, father, brother etc because there only human and have no common sense. The day an actualy " world" war breaks out pricks like you will see things in perspective [^] now run along and go play your computer game matey.

You have to accept that this is a risk all reporters in a war zone have to live by.

As for the van, being a good Samaritan is one thing but driving your van with kids into a court yard full of dead bodies is an insane idea.

I would have lost my temper but hopefully would not have killed someone, sounds like this guy also immediately regretted his actions and called the emergency services and still confessed his ove.

Now we are getting into mental helath issues, but as i say i didnt justify it, i just said it was no wonder he flipped.

watched the video earlier, in all honesty i thought the bloke by the side of the building was aiming a weapon, however if they really believed that someone was going to take a shot at them wouldnt they take some sort of evasive action instead of circling. even if our friends in the military can give good reasons for this then what they did to the men trying to take away a man in a pool of blood was nothing less than an execution. ive heard here and on the tape that people shouldnt take their kids to a battle zone and also that the men in the van were stupid, but to me and more importantly to people of iraq and elsewhere the men in the van will be seen as ordinary blokes bravely trying to get someone to hospital.
it doesnt matter how much some people in this country justify this as legitimate behaviour in a war zone, this whole episode will be the best recruiting propoganda for extremists in the muslim world. these wars will go on for a long time and all the time we the people will pay the price for it at a time when our country is about bust and more of your colleagues will be coming back in body bags robbso for a wars that the british and american governments already know are unwinable.

Anyone seen the wikileaks video yet?

its not as funny when the yanks do it to us when they are gung ho

the brits were just as bad at covering up

"Lieutenant Colonel MacDuff was then a major commanding B company of the Black Watch regiment, with tanks from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment under his command, defending a captured bridge over a canal outside the city.

One of the Challenger tank crews spotted what they believed were Iraqi troops almost a mile away.

In fact, they were watching two Challenger tanks from the Queen's Royal Lancers, attached to the neighbouring battle group.

A Royal Tank Regiment tank crew were given permission to attack and fired two high explosive shells. The second hit and destroyed one of the Queen's Royal Lancers tanks, killing Corporal Allbutt and Trooper Clarke, who were inside.

No inquest into Trooper Clarke's death was possible because his remains were never found.

Lieutenant Colonel MacDuff - since promoted to command the Black Watch battalion - was aware of the location of the friendly tanks.

He claimed in his evidence to the inquest in Oxford that he passed on a radio message to his units pointing out the positions of the friendly tanks, and that the call was acknowledged.

Other soldiers and fellow officers later gave evidence that they heard no such message, prompting the coroner to call the lieutenant colonel back to the witness box.

The inquest heard that the official log recording all radio messages had mysteriously gone missing.

Concluding the inquest, Mr Walker said: "Major MacDuff is clear that he sent his message and it was acknowledged.

"I do not accept his evidence. If it had been done, it would have been heard by someone in that platoon." "

'Dibzzzz did disrespect those dead men, saying that they used the kids for cover.'

No disrespect at all, I've said earlier it was tragic, but it's a well known tactic over there to use civilians as cover.

An Apache's job is to do a recon of an area where troops are to move to, if there are any unfreindlys the job of the Apache is to soften them up.

If you are a war reporter and after a great photograph or story, you run the risk of being caught up in it.

If you go to help wounded people, in the middle of a bloodbath, don't take kids with you.

If you are a helicopter gunman and see what looks like a civilian helping, don't open fire. Leave it ot the troops on the ground to asess the situation then call you in if needed.

Stupidity of the highest order, on both sides if you ask me.

Mix them both together and you get one big nice bowl of fcuk up.
