Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

Sorry Steve, you've given your heart and soul to the club but your time is now up.

To read statements in the Gazette like your never going to walk away is quite baffling, your decisions in recent years have been quite frankly a shambles.

The decisions you have made are now costing the club and its future in the big league's, from players signed to managers you've taking on, to the coaching staff, to the scouting team, the list goes on.

The dream has gone Steve, now so should you.

another classic Gibson quote I read - We will continue to punch above our weight - WTF is this quote all about?

We got to the uefa cup final, reached numerous domestic finals, semi finals, consecutive appearances in the premier league, we should be a top half premier league team now and if he appointed the right people we would have been.

Dave, I just don't believe there is a anyone out there willing and able to do a better job than SG.

Everyone who has ever undertaken the role of Boro chairman has done a worse job, so let's not assume that the next man to try will be any better than SG.

The grass ain't always greener on the other side of the fence.

Gibson has delivered 3 years now of broken promisers, the signs were there for all to see three seasons ago and the most hardcore of boro fan knew the same and to our surprise here we are struggling to beat even the most average of championship teams.

Gibson has lost alot of fans and them fans I think are going to be pretty hard to convince in returning to the ground while he is still in charge.

Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

"Gibson has delivered 3 years now of broken promisers" [sic] what about the twelve previous years of his tenure?

Also I would like to point out that no-one makes you a promise when they sell you a season ticket, just like applying a liberal squirt of "lynx" is not going to make you irresistible to women, it's marketing that's all, it's not a "promise" it's an aim, a target if you prefer. Do you see?

As others have pointed out there isn't a list of billionaires itching to pump their ill-gotten squillions into Boro, get over it.

Muttley Posted on 20/03/2010 23:59
Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

"Can you say for certain that no-one would buy the club???"

Yes, there are Premier League clubs up for sale with no takers (Wigan for example are open to offers), our chums from up the road despite being the eighth biggest in the universe are impossible to give away.

Why would anyone other than a local lad want to run MFC? There are more fashionable teams for anyone who so desires.

So you lot are all saying there isn't alist of billionaires out there who would buy M.F.C?

I have nothing but sympathy for the weak hearted or naive, we will be back and don't consider our current plight a crisis. We are healthy and rebuilding, it had to happen some time guys or continue with spiralling costs and eventually go bust with no club at all to support.

Enjoy what we have........

Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

"Who can answer that Joe until the club goes up for sale???

Can you say for certain that no-one would buy the club??? "

If he put the club up for sale, he wouldn't be praised. He'd be accused of turning his bakc on the club and lacking commitment.

Besides, I look at all the clubs taken over in recent years: ManU, Liverpool, Villa, Newcastle, CHelsea, Sunderland, West Ham (the first time) and Birmingham: all these take-overs were unsolicited. These clubs weren't "put up for sale", offers were just made and accepted. If there were a buyer for Boro out there, an offer would be made regardless.

viv_andersons_nana Posted on 21/03/2010 00:03
Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

He hasn't put the club up for sale no, and why should he?

I don't want someone from Qatar coming in, pishing money up the wall for two years before deciding he wants his money back and sells the ground, facilities etc.

The majority of fans across the country would love Steve Gibson to be their chairman.

Which is a very valid point (and Dave is just a tool) but what I find baffling is the amount of people (in varying degrees of seriousness) that want to put money in to Portsmouth. They've been linked to multi millionaires from all over the place, trying to save a fked up club over the last few months. What's so special about Portsmouth? (I get the Man City/Chelsea thing)

JLinardi Posted on 21/03/2010 00:06
Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

I dont think people realise how hard a position Gibbo is in, to appoint GS and allow big money to be blown on flops was a massiveXXXXXX up of epic proportions and has set the club back years. But in the final Southgate season (prem) and this season alot of the things hes came out with are classed as 'lies' by fans and in a way they are.

But what we have to understand is Gibbo couldnt just come out and say 'look were broke we need your help' because other teams would have raped us offering daft amounts for our players and unsettling them etc. Gibbo HAD to put on a front for the sake of the club which unfortunately had the downside of decieving the fans.

However Gibbo, Lamb and both GS' all dropped small hints as to our true position which mainly were overlooked by stubborn supporters who wanted them to spell it out in black and white which they were never gonna do and rightly so.

The only thing wrong with Gibbo is that it is HE and only HE who has been punching above his weight. He has been so lucky for so long.
He had Robbo for the new stadium and influx of new fans and the resurection of footy, good timing. Yes he was part of the rebirth and we will always be greatful but,
He had McClaren here who did the biz for him and got him his trophy, he had to let him go for a bigger job. No issues there.
His mistake number 1 was the appointing the Gate.
Mistake number 2 Strachan.
Gibbo has proved he is out of his depth this past 4 years and has been extreemly lucky in the past achievements, his failings and weaknesses are now exposed to the full.

dave, I actually think that sentence may be truer than you'd care to admit. If we were sold, I think the potential buyers would be coming from the same mould as Pompey's string of oh so successful owners.

The reality is, the billionaires want a big club that they can make instantly successful. The businessmen want a big club that they can turn a profit from. The wannabes and never weres, on the other hand, will take anything they can get their hands on, as they can't afford a big club and have no idea how to run a football club anyway, and it's this latter category that is likely to be the only bunch we can attract.

Although I think you've already been denounced about this ridiculous idea I still think you need to be very careful for what you wish for.

Newcastle are an instantly more attractive proposition in every way and they cannot get a decent buyer for love nor money, what makes Middlesbrough attractive to a new buyer Dave? I'd love to see a genuine post from someone on this subject because whenever it's been brought up in the past no-one is able to put a decent argument up for the club.

We are incredibly lucky that Gibson was born a Boro fan but ask yourself would many more chairmen want to do it FOR THE AREA? He doesn't make money, the fans complain about season tickets that are 16 pound a game yet expect an owner to create and spend millions. It just doesn't add up but fans like yourself Dave can't see the wood for the trees and rather than actually come up with decent suggestions just sit their blind and whinge without substance.

Yes he's made mistakes but he's also recognised them and is trying his hardest to rectify those mistakes, hence we've not been court or as close to administration as others, the short term pain for long term gain is a hope for all of us but it's fans with this "big time desire" without the patience that are currently causing more problems than it's worth.

UP THE BORO!

PLEASE suggest a solution. Anyone can bang on about how bad things are. That's easy. Personally I'm feeling OK with the direction the club's going. And I'm generally a glass half empty kind of person when it comes to the Boro....

EDIT

intheblood Posted on 21/03/2010 02:33
Steve Gibson's dream is Over!!!

I have supported Boro for well over fifty years, Gibbo has given me more than any other Chairman during his tenure.
If he does decide to go then I will call it a day with him.
He has done more for the club than all the rest put together, OK he,s made mistakes but who hasn,t in any walk of life.
We will NEVER get another Chairman who loves the club like Gibbo that,s for sure.
The loudest noises seem to be coming from people who openly admit they no longer go,if you,re all in favour of a sugar daddy to run the club then believe me you are going the wrong way about attracting one,the first thing these people look at is what,s in it for them, and with the shytte supporters we have to offer they wouldn,t hang around for very long.
I don,t think for a minute his dream is over,
he has just woke up, gone for a pesh and in a short while the dream will be up and running again.
I await the day the traitors return and start telling us all what a great man he is and how it "wasn,t me that wanted rid of him".It will happen, mark my words.

Icannot believe people are questioning gibbo.
hurworth when fully completed will not only generate more cash for gibbo and the club but also be attractive incentive for champagne style footballer that many seem to crave IMHO
Also people cannot justify spending 20 odd quid plus beer and food money then to have to walk thru the outback to get there.
people dont have that kind of cash its not gibbos fault.
But the only mistake gibbo made was filling the corners in and not having wagon wheels which make me feel quite nostalgic.
up the boro

I've seen Boro in the FA Cup final at Wembley and the UEFA Cup final in Eindhoven.
I never dreamed of stuff like that growing up supporting Boro.
Now I dare to dream I'll see my team win a major up final. That's all because of Gibbo, and if he's still in charge I'm happy.
Those who doubt need to have a word with themselves, or preferably some rich fan with a spare...what, 80-100 mill??? willing to invest...
Up the Boro

Portamouth's so called suitors, 5 of them this season by the way, have all been supposedly millionaires waiting to throw their cash on to the Fratton fire - except known of them had any cash to put in reality. All were ego fueled aheisters including the Cheshire property tycoon who held a meeting with the fans last week and came across as a time wasting tosser.

Without Gibson this Club would be in administration - no question.

Those who want Gibbo out need to open their eyes and educate themsleves a bit more, before continuing with this ridiculous arguement.

Examples of mis-management are all around, in all levels, many of which in the PL and some involving the very biggest clubs.

Gibson, in hindsight, may have made some mistakes, but he's human like everyone else. The important thing is that he gets far more right than wrong and we should be thanking our lucky stars we have someone so shrewd steering our club.

Bell end of the month award goes to Dave79. You sound like a spoiled child demanding new toys.

Your comments are all negative criticism and you have no answers except to sell the club to a fictional billionaire. Middlesbrough are not and never will be an attractive proposition to an outside investor. Small crowds, low media profile, no interest outside of the Teesside area.

Gibson has made mistakes but he cares about the club and has our best interests at heart. Stop winging like a little baby and do something possitive: support your local team!

Portsmouth was only of interest because of the land play around their ground which Tescos have allegedly said they want to develop. Not the football club and certainly not now they are out of the PL.

The ignorant original poster of this thread ought to ask himself. Why would a billionnaire want to buy this Club?why?

It loses money every year. Fans want to see the owners cash thrown at vastly overpaid foreign mercenaries and the land won't triple in value overnight. Not even double. And the banks won't now lend a penny into this sector.

All in all thread titles like this make me very angry.

Gibson has lost a lot of fans?

If you read the replies on here that doesn,t seem to be the case.He has lost the bandwagoners and that is to be expected when a club needs it,s fans at times like this, the REAL fans become the backbone of the club. The traitors will be back screaming they had to queue or couldn,t get tickets for any big game WHEN (not if) it happens again, as usual they will be the first to make a fuss because the club hasn,t give them priority.
Once again, he has lost the bandwagoners not the real fans.

We had a few decent cup runs but despite all this success Gibson speaks of, we have only won the least ranked trophy out of the lot, mainly due to Arsenal playing there reserve team I might add. The most successful Boro team ever was the one that finished 3rd in the 1st Division. Lets be honest the league positions during Gibsons reign have been abysmal more often than not.

I'm a boro fan of forty odd years, and yes i know Gibson has done good things for the club.

Now them days are gone, and we've got to move on. Gibson and Lamb are now taking us down to a level, where it will be almost impossible to regain our true place in the top flight, ( oh yes we are a top flight club ) and those of you who think he can do no wrong, are the one's who will probably still vote Labour at the next election.

Nuff said.

How can anyone who has been a fan for forty odd years claim that our true place is in the top flight?
If you take the Gibson years away from them forty odd years then our rightful place is anywhere but the top flight.
Our true place under Gibson HAS been top flight, so I think your argument should be for the guy who has been responsible for you being able to watch us there.
Jeeez! the nearest we got in a major cup was 6th round prior to Gibbo.
I really don,t think any argument for our true place being the big league stacks up before the arrival of the great man.

If this numty is a jawdie then it just figures how stupid they are, ie with the Chairmen they,ve had, you know, Spanish houses of ill repute, dogs on the tyne,40 for 5 pound shirts, another who invested 5million and walked away five years later with ninety five million of their money, and that is excluding the annual wages of roughly half a million for certain others. Now they,re stuck with the cockney mafia. Wouldn,t you think that Chairmen were the last thing they,d want to bring up.
Oh! I nearly forgot the up front payment for a guarantee on seats that said if you don,t read the small print then them guaranteed seats aren,t guaranteed. Now that,s what I call good Chairmen, as long as they,re at "the circus"

I know, I know, they,re jawdies and we should expect it.

From 95-96 up until last season we were averaging 28,000 fans every home game, this year we are averaging 18-19 thousand, against Newcastle we got 27,342 then home to reading yesterday we got 17,082, thats 10 thousand less fans.

That says to me that the fans are still there but have lost faith with Gibson and Lamb.

Next season will be even worse, say 15,000 tops!!!

Still on here Dave, did you not sleep last night [:D]
Truth is not all fans are like minded, and come from different era's. I would say the majority of senior fans are more loyal and patient than the PL fans who have had a far better ride supporting the local team.

Which ever side of the fence we sit on, we have all witnessed the saviour of our club by a devoted man who is keeping things going after a few recent errors and idiotic fans call for his head with no other financier remotely interested in purchasing our club.

Next seasons gate will depend on what tranpires on and off the park between now and close season, we will know by the team sheet whether we have a decent side next year, and that time will be the justified time to judge on club manager and team performances as this season and the two previous have been a total mess

Absolutely right Woody. Performance on the pitch is all that matters. No one turns up and no one stays away becasue of the chairman. If they did SJP would be empty every week wouldn't it?

I don't get this business over "GIbson's spin" either. CHairmen have to speak positively about their club, they have to show enthusiasm to set the tone for their employees. So what if SG was proved wrong? I don't feel he's lied to me anymore than, say, the manufacturers of Lynx do in their adverts.

Steve Gibson has done by far enough to deserve our unconditional support. He made a mistake with Southgate and he admits it, and while were playing XXXXXX now you should support your team through thick and thin. Two words sum up the majority of boro fans, Glory Supporters. We have no god given right to be in the premiership and most of the so called small clubs in the premiership at the moment have a bigger fan base than us. Gibson's just a boro fan from the area - amongst other things his contribution to 'the cause' 1- ensuring the club exists, 2 -putting in millions 3- presiding over the greatest period in the clubs history -4 a trophy 5 financing some of the greatest players in the clubs history - 6 a new stadium 7- respect in the wider footballing community

as an alleged Boro fan your contribution to 'the cause' seems to be moaning in cyberspace

on balance, so far Gibson has the more impressive CV

Dave, you committed the cardinal sin of critisising him who should never be critisised..............

frankly the last 3 years have been an unmitigated disaster for the club - and Gibbo must shoulder a lot of the blame.

The path we have taken was avoidable. We needed strong assertive leadership and we failed to get anywhere near that.

Bottom line is apart from him caring for the club I cannot see what he has left for our "development".

However small mindedness on here is his saving grace.

And yes I know what he did for the club - key word did- today we're beset by largely self-inflicted problems and are a shawow of the club we were.

Gibson has secured the finances of our club and will back the club with his own money again. So moan away about the 400 a year you have to invest in our club but dont forget the man puts millions of his own money in each year so we can have a football club. Some of you so called fans make me sick. Boo Hoo were in the championship, i think some of you have been pampered for far too long watching players all bank rolled by...........Steve Gibson.

"...frankly the last 3 years have been an unmitigated disaster for the club - and Gibbo must shoulder a lot of the blame."

Couldn't agree more, but like most things in life it's incredibly easy to identify the problem - but much much harder to determine the solution.

A year ago barely anyone would have posted any anti Gibbo messages on here whereas now it's getting to the point of open warfare. BUT I've yet to see one anti Gibbo post that comes up with a credible alternative.

Three sorts of people buy football clubs:

1) Billionaire Arabs / Oligarchs so that they can have a play toy - Not going to happen to Boro as their are far more attractive clubs for an outsider to buy.

2) Businessmen who buy a club to make profit - generally through asset stripping - Unlikely to happen to Boro as we don't have any real net assets when our liabilities are taken into account.

3) Businessmen who genuinley want to invest in the club because they care about it and the area - realistically this has to be someone local - how many local businessmen are better placed than Gibbo to invest in the club?? Dunno but not many.

As much as it pains me to say it, MFC is a very unattractive club to any potential investor - infinitely less so than Newcastle (a good judge of our comparative commercial appeal is how many times we've each been on sky this season, nuff said...)

Regardless of my gratitude to Gibbo for what he has done for this club I feel that he has made terrible mistakes over the last three years and I am certainly not a deluded Gibbo fanboy, but, to all those demanding a change from him - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - just come up with one realistic alternative.

Please, just one.
