Supreme Novices - Blackstairmountain (more out of hope than expctation - Dunguib could be anything - Blackstairmountain is the only horse to have beaten Dunguib in a bumper, has excellent form on undulating tracks and has Ruby on board. Only downer is lack of experience over hurdles

Neptune - Quel Esprit - my only large ante post bet - backed in from 12s to 6s in last few days

Champion Hurdle - Zaynar but expecting big run from Celestial Halo - really tricky this year as there are 6 or 7 with good claims

Could be about 10 possible winners of the champion hurdle.

Watch out for medermit bombing up that hill, watch the supreme novices again from last year, it runs a cracker (behind go native but that a much lower price).

MrToddow Posted on 10/03/2010 18:23

The only horse to beat dunguib was on raglan road not blackstairmountain. on raglan road is a possible in the coral cup and howard johnson has sed that it is possibly the best horse in the yard. available around 20s i think.

If Pauluka is still getting the same info as me, he will be agreeing on the following no doubt for first day flutters : -

Khyber Kim - Champion Hurdle - 9/1

Get Me Out Of Here - Supreme Hurdle - EW 6/1 - Should run Dunguib very close, if not beating it.

sparkins Posted on 10/03/2010 20:22

Bloody hell - good point - I have read so much form and racing stories I am getting confused - On Raglan road is correct. I still fancy Blackstairmountain regardless of my poor memory!

whats the best price being quoted for Denman?

BoroLewis Posted on 11/03/2010 10:18
The Official Cheltenham Festival Thread

I have all 6 of them straight on the nose, even 10/1 EW won't get a great deal back rather just have it on a straight win. Aslong as atleast one of them wins will make profit from the 6.

As for Denman biggest price 4/1, Will Hill and Ladbrokes both doing that.

The best week of the year for me, having to work for the first time in living memory, abosuletly gutted (however will have a radio on and hopefully will get done early to a catch a few)!!

Got an ante post Round Robin

Somersby (8/1) - Arkle, typical Henrietta bulid up.
Long Run (6/1) - RSA Chase, form speaks for itself.
Go Native (5/1) - Champ hurdle, clear pick on form this year.

It will be 4 days of lucky 15's and singles, lots of tears not much cheering and by Friday thanking god that it is another year till I have to do it again!!!!!

Garde Champetre in the cross country on tuesday is the bet of the meeting I think: these odd races can be won with heaps of weight, you just need an ability to jump and a quickish turn of foot at the end.

Double it up with Voler La Vedette in the mares hurdle (quevega has had an interrupted preparation).

Pauluka ,

Thnaks , I dont know either it was simply because it was getting well backed in the County.
I live in Uttoxeter and saw it run 1st time last May and have backed every time since...

Can it win tomorrow ? I think so, so hope to get my lost money back and hopefully with Go Native and Captain cee bee !

Dunguib will do one of two things...

1. Fall/unseat
2. Win

It's either a machine everyone thinks or very clumsy at the fences. Can't see it 2nd ot 3rd etc. All or nothing on that one

Get_your_rat_out Posted on 15/03/2010 11:41

GYRO. No I said on here ages ago that I really fancied Khyber Kim and it was overpriced imo

Not saying it will even be placed. Was just a fancy of mine. Nice to see Henderson worried about it though

When your alone and life is making you lonely you can always go – to Cheltenham
When you’ve got worries, all the noise and the hurry seems to help, I know – at Cheltenham
Just listen to the music of those good old Irish voices
Linger by the paddock, see the horses, make your choices

HOW CAN YOU LOOSE?

The lights are much brighter there,
You can forget all your troubles forget all your cares so go to
Cheltenham……..things’ll be great when you’re at
Cheltenham……..no finer place for sure
Cheltenham……..everything’s waiting for you

Don’t hang around and let your problems surround you it’s the show of shows – Cheltenham
Maybe you know some little places to go where they never close – at Cheltenham
Just listen to the hoofbeats and that steady pounding rhythm
You may smile but in a while you’ll be dancing with’em

HAPPY AGAIN

The lights are much brighter there,
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares so go to Cheltenham
Where all the horses run – Cheltenham
Everyone’s having fun – Cheltenham
You’re gonna be alright now

And you may find somebody kind to help and lend a tenner
Someone who is just like you and needs a gentle hand to guide them along

So maybe I’ll see you there
We can forget all our troubles, forget all our cares so go to Cheltenham,
Things’ll be great when we’re at Cheltenham
Don’t wait a minute boys – Cheltenham
The festival’s waiting for you…….

Cheltenham, Cheltenham, Cheltenham, Cheltenham ………..

BoroLewis Posted on 15/03/2010 13:11

I can't see why everyone thinks Dunguib is a poor jumper and will make mistakes and could fall. The last time it went they went no pace and obviously harder to jump the hurdles when not fully strecthed out and going into it with pace and on a good stride. Dunguib is a very good jumper and is a machine. He has proven last year that come the festival he is in peak coniditon. Dunguib will win tommorow and will be favourite for the 2010 champion hurdle straight after.

Pauluka Posted on 15/03/2010 13:14
The Official Cheltenham Festival Thread

Lewis, not everyone. Just me. All I have said is that he will either win or not finish the race. Even his trainer has questioned his jumping before.

sparkins Posted on 15/03/2010 13:33
The Official Cheltenham Festival Thread

From a purist's point of view, I really want Dunguib to confirm the suspicion that he is the next big thing. The game always needs a big star. I was there last year and the way he destroyed a good bumper field was breathtaking.

However speaking as a punter there are more than enough reasons to look elsewhere.

1) I am not convinced he has really beaten much yet over hurdles (many horses scared off by his reputation)
2) His jumping - Phillip Fenton has been concerned enough by it to call it out on a regular basis on his blog - maybe he is trying to manage people's expectations a bit to relieve the pressure on himself - I agree that a bit of pace may sharpen it up, or it might make it worse. Until tomorrow nobody really knows
3) Has a reputation (from the trainer's Blog) for really boiling over - the Supreme Novices race is often the most chaotic of the whole Festival
4) The price - based more on reputation than achievement - I would argue that Get Me Out of Here's performance in the Totesport Trophy, one of the most competitive handicaps of the year is way in advance of any hurdles form Dunguib has shown thus far.

Dunguib could easily come out and win by 10 lengths tomorrow and good luck to him if he does. I just remember My Cousin Vinny, Carvill's Hill, Kasbah Bliss etc etc -horses who went to the festival as unbeateable but get sent home with their tails both metaphorically and literally between their legs.

Pauluka Posted on 15/03/2010 13:36

Sparkins. Spot on [^]

i called Dunguib 4 or 5 weeks ago, its a short price but you have something to play with afterwards, it is the first race after all (its being sponsored by andy stewart).

now then, following on from a conversation a close colleague had with Paul Nicholls at Sandown on saturday (andy stewart was in attendance as well) he was given a clear indication from P.N. that he was expecting a v.decent run and return from these 2.

sanctuaire 16:40 wed ruby walsh jockeys.

2.00 Sizing Europe (with Sommersby as a saver and with the RFC)
2.40 Bensalem and Nenuphar Collonges (both e/w and RFC)
3.20 Punjabi and Zaynar (both e/w and RFC)

I've also done the first named in each race in a yankee.

Having read the comments about Khyber Kim, I may have to have a saver on that now!

BoroLewis Posted on 16/03/2010 13:52
The Official Cheltenham Festival Thread

The jockey on Dunguib will get some criticism. He did have him near back and out wide most of the time, I think he rode him without abit too much confidence in the end. Think he thoguht the horse was better than he actually is. Menorah was always up there at the front and Get Me Out Of Here was never far away. I think a more experienced jockey may have gave Dunguib a better ride, but I still feel the horse was dissapionting on its own merits.

I haven't backed each way for years so correct me if I'm wrong. I couldn't be bothered doing each way on those kind of odds. If you put a tenner on each way at 8/1, bet costs you £20 and you get £30 back (I think).

So you're effectively getting odds at 1/2 if horse comes is only placed. Hardly worth the effort.

I simply can't back a chaser at 4/5 as I'd need to put at least a ton on to make the returns worth it. The horse could get brought down, hampered or more likely make a mistake. I wouldn't be worried about the drift in price of Long Run aswell, before Punchestowns had his injury scare Long Run was 5/1 and Punchestowns 5/2. Long Run was backed into 2/1 favourite as Punchestowns got a slight injury. I think all that is happening today is the market is sorting itself back out to what it was before the injury scare.

I'm going old school tomorrow and banking on a return to form for these outsiders;

Seven is my Number 25/1
Trenchant 25/1
Vot Por Ustedes 14/1
Katchit 20/1

EW singles and an EW yankee

But more fancied horses I've also backed are

Rivaliste 7/1
Ainama 8/1
Barber Shop 11/2
Ballabriggs 7/1

Once again singles and yankee

Very interesting quotes from the King stable

King has been making bullish noises about Katchit recently and believes a return to his best is imminent.

"I don't think there's as much between Katchit and Karabak as the betting suggests and I hope I'm right as he does look as if he is about to bounce back,"

Given Katchit loves Cheltenham this must be the value bet of the day for those wise enough to swerve the odds on Big Bucks

If you have a Bet on Betfair and the horse is pulled, do you get the money back or do they keep it?

I have been going to Cheltenham for the last 15 years - got back last night and I have to say that was the toughest couple of days for backing winners I have had there. A lot of form is going out of the window as so much of the racing has been done on very heavy or tacky ground.

Was gutted to see Quel Esprit go down in the Neptune - it is one I have followed all season and had a big fancy for it.

2.40pm Barbers Shop 6/1 Win

With my luck they'll end up being shot before the race starts

The only bet I am having at the festival is on todays Ryanair Chase - Deep Purple.

This is a good horse but has not had a run out since boxing day. But it has beaten a lot of the horses (and giving weight!) it is up against today.

OK - I have had a cup of coffee and tried to get some motivation together - not helped by 2 days worth of hangover...

1405 - Alfie Sherrin
1440 - Voy Por Ustedes - could be heart ruling head but reckon blinkers could do the trick - also I have a soft spot for Alberta's Run - both have a bit to find though
1520 - hard to see past Big Bucks but I wont be backing at Odds On

Last two races are not my sort - to be honest, the Thursday isn't really Championship standard compared to the other days and they struggle to make it appealing.
