Now the board is back, Downing last night...

...showed why he has so many critics.

He had a great match but Milner alongside him just seemed to have so much more drive and determination.

Downing has an image problem when he plays that detracts from his ability and contribution.

He was one of their best players. Looks miles better when there's at least one more decent midfielder to help him out unlike our shambles last year.

Now the board is back, Downing last night...

I always thought Rooney looked poor at Man Utd with Ronaldo playing with him.

Just showed him up as someone I never liked so was looking for any excuse to try and prove my point.

"Milner alongside him just seemed to have so much more drive and determination"

Milner is a fitter bloke by miles, anyone would look knackered compared to Milner.

The secret of Downings success was evident from his replacement.

Not a pacey forward, or a fast running winger, but a solid defensive midfielder. At which point Milner went to the wing.

The reason Milner has played central midfield since Downing arrived, is because Downing is a bright lad who knows when to stay back and cover when Milner goes tearing forward.

Without Downing on the park, Milner has to play on the wing where his impetuous runs forward do less damage defensively.
