Morgans favourite (neverending) phrase...

"I don't recall giving anyone premission to talk!"
(usually completed by him pushing his gegs back up his flat nose!)
We used to count how many times he'd do it in assembly.

Bert Race used to call his cane Slim Jim....I should know having had the whack off him more than once!. Got slippered of Billy Cotton twice as well!

Mr Neely...Geography teacher who thought he was a bit of a footballer, with his ridiculous blue trackie and Gola boots. Told our mam at parents evening that at times he wanted to throttle me.
Mrs Hyde taught science I think.

Some more from my time

Mrs Atkinson - french
Mrs Ainsley - french
Mrs Gordon - German
Rosie Brown - hippy chick and the best English teacher ever
Mrs Rowe - music
Mr Foxhall - music, and to us, bent as a nine bob note
Mr Wilson - geography, old as the hills
Mr Aitken - metalwork
Mr Dunn - metalwork
Mrs Cowperthwaite - think she was H.E.
Mr Huckle - Physics
Mr Hartland - Physics
Mr Hunter - RE

No-one remember Miss Howie? She got married and was called Mrs Roberts. She taught RE and was stunning. A 13yr olds dream.

"emember mr pearson i heard he had a nevouse breakdown and had to leave ( not surprised the grief he used to get )"

It was actually a bit more sinister than that, he was took advantage of by a number of pupils and ended up doing time for it. He was a good bloke but one of the softest teachers there was.

Mr Smith the art teacher was a great bloke, and helped me a lot whilst I was there - it was all the more tragic that he died so young (RIP)

Mrs Smelt (wife of ex Boro physio Steve) was also lovely and a great teacher.

painfullyboro Posted on 17/02/2008 13:26
How about Acklam Grange???

RE panch he was a good bloke and i heard rumers about what happened i must admit when i was there we did take advantage of his nature but nothing to serious you would have though that the school would have noticed what was going on over the years and acted upon it pancho was let down by every one in that place

camperman Posted on 17/02/2008 13:47

whatever happened to r shmuck the pe teacher ? is billy cotton still alive ? last i heard he was doing radio shows.

I also went to pancho's house a few times, he would buy us whiskey and give us money for blow, then drive me and my girlfriend round in his little green mg. we would then go back to his and use his bed.

Davey_C Posted on 17/02/2008 20:22
How about Acklam Grange???

I was there 87-92

Mr Morgan used to make you walked down a certain side of the corridor or shout very loud if you didn't, no running and I think I might be making this one up but did you have to carry your school bag over your shoulders? You also had the misfortune to do isolation in his back room.

I never got detention once in 5 years and the only time I got lines was when the whole class did because someone wouldn't own up to something.

Was there a Mr Youlden? I think I had him for Maths in first year, he was also one of the deputy heads like Mr Consett.

PE Mr Sullivan (also Careers), Mr Clark, Mr Cotton
ART Mr Goodwin
Computers Mr Sanderson & Mr Goodwin (those good old BBCs and arcamedies!)
History - Mr Parkinson & Mrs Baister
Maths - Mrs Ollis (her husband tought Geography didn't he?)
Music - Mr Foxall
English - Mrs Crosswaite (in the wooden huts in the play ground)
Science - Mr Chapman (again in a wooden hut)
Who was the mad Chemistry teacher ???
Woodwork - Mr Harrison (he did'nt half go mad at you!)
Mr Jones did plastic work, was it Mr Dunn for metal work & Mr Huckle for a lesson where you learned about electric boards!
RE - Mrs Jennings

Longpig - Mrs Smelt was our English teacher in first teacher.

Miss Ellis comes to mind for the girls PE teacher.

How bad was cross country. We must have been the only school unlucky enough to have a beck and foxy's wood backing onto it (and you had to run the length of the school field before you even climbed over the fence!)

I walked the dog down there not so long ago. The fences are long gone replaced with bushes.

How about Acklam Grange???

Double post and more a friends united thread etc...

But I just have to say that my fav teacher was Mr Jones - who used to dress like Crockett from Miami Vice - but look like plug from the bash street kids - with Acne.

Anyway his fav insult to shout out us when we were playing up was - "Fat head". Loved that, I think it should be revived as an insult.

Simultaneous what? [:D]

To be honest "Sir" You probably don't remember Mrs Shields, but she was my teacher in 1st year, and she made us sit boy girl boy girl and was very strict. I hated Maths. I then had Mr Wain. I hated it even more. Up until 3rd year It was my worst lesson. 4th and 5th year i loved it. Something happened....

i always remember one lesson in particular... We were chatting about the boro and Zoe Ship put her hand up to ask something - Your response was, "Zoe, is this about football, cos if not its gonna have to wait" [:D] And thats why i loved Maths!!

I also remember a certain holiday on April 6th 1997 [:)]

Could have done with some of them revision books for the electrical engineering aspect of the course i did as well!!! [xx(]

Lol, thanks for that PP. I enjoyed teaching your class too. It's a shame, but now I'm Assistant Head I don't really have the rapport with classes like that anymore.

I don't think it's anything to do with changing the way I teach, but not having my own classroom means I don't get to know pupils in an informal setting like I used to.

I still know the names of nearly all the pupils by the time they get to Y10 though. I dread turning into one of those "senior managers" who doesn't know who any of the pupils are!

I still haven't quite forgotten missing the CC Cup final, but at least it was for a skiing trip to Canada (where I managed to watch it on TV and also made a good friend for life who made sure I got to Calgary for the game - he posts on here as Snowman62 occasionally) so it wasn't all bad.

It certainly hasn't scarred me as much as not being allowed to go to Eindhoven.

I hope it was school committments and not Mrs H putting her foot down!

How about Acklam Grange???

Ex-Oaklands here (left in 81)

Had Horace Daniels for maths - did you know he was a war-hero -big piece in the Gazette when he died.
Can't believe Mr Shevels is still teaching - I had him in 1980 and he looked knackered then.

Mr Smelt was our games teacher
Miss Nelson did games for the lasses
Mr Smith (RIP) was the art teacher and subject of many young girls crushes apparently.

Can't believe nobodies mentioned the legend that was Mr Deeks the French teacher - for five years he never addressed a single pupil by their christian name.
Mrs Pearson the English teacher - outlandish dresser - think she was an ex-hippy.
Roland Rickerby (woodwork) and his collection of antique motorbikes - usually Nortons - also died a good few years ago.
Did Jed the Head (aka the spitting toad) not transfer to Acklam Grange when Oaklands shut?

Without wanting to rb it in, but that Truley was the greatest day of my life.

i recon we turned out alright getting the caine and the slipper all those years ago and i think they should bring it back as some of the scruffy youth today think they are lawless, a back hander now and then would stop the cheeky little tw@ts a lesson on how not to tuck their fooking trousers in their socks and not to wear those stoopid fooking skiing hats the scruffy b@stards

Pink Ponce - no my name is not Ruth. That's the mystery.

Apparently we're having a 10 year reunion this June or July as Mr Swan promised. Toph set up a group on Facebook about it. Not sure of details yet. Might be a laugh though.

"What was that awful female teacher called who came from Oaklands?"

There was a Miss Wright - hard faced skinny cow - must have been pushing 60 - think she was Deputy Head
There was a Mrs Wright too - English teacher - but she wasn't too bad
Can't think of any others

Female.

We did run into each other outside the Millennium Stadium a few years ago. I think you were wasted though.

I'll keep an eye on what's going on reunion-wise and let you know.
