Paylor in Gazette - Boro were very close to administration..

Sorry if this has been posted before but did anybody else notice this comment by Paylor in tonights paper, he said

'They had to get rid of the top wage earners otherwise the club would have ended up in administration. I don't think the average guy in the street realises how close it was'.

I think this sort of thing would be better coming from the club rather than saying nothing and trying to gloss over the fact that Gibbo has put all the spare money into the hotel.

I also think it makes Paylor sound like he understands these things better than lesser mortals who have to pay to watch the Boro.

Nearly is not good enough. We nearly stayed up, we nearly went into administration, well actually we never cos we sold 30m worth of players so that was never going to happen.

I agree Lisbon, I think Paylor is talking bollo**s anyway, there's a lot more the club could have done to avoid administration had it been necessary.

The club has been mismanaged from top to bottom. Hardly something to be proud about.

Really?

You know this how?

Who is surprised by the fact that we nearly went into administration. The fact doesn't surprise me in the slightest and it was fairly obvious even during last season in the Prem that we were in the shyte financially.

Relegation changes most clubs' financial situations. High earners have to be offloaded usually. Why expect Boro to be different?

Don't recall anyone complaining when times were good though.

Is there a difference between "mismanagment" and "showing ambition"? It seems we're damned either way...[rle]

The issue appears to be 'going into administratiom'. This is a cash flow issue so no matter whether we were relegated or not, we would have had the same cash flow at the end of last season . . . so, even if we'd stayed up, this suggests we'd have sold the players

What he means is that if Huth, Downing and Tuncay had all preferred to stay in the championship instead of going to premiership clubs and getting a pay rise into the bargain, then we would have been in financial trouble. Yeah...

Some people highlighted numerous examples mismangement in real time! Hardly a case of 20:20 retrovision!

Paylor

Well no we wouldn't because we have p*ss poor reporter who does not dare say anything for fear off upsetting the club.

At least we no longer have lazy petulant mercenaries on the books - we can build now using the academy and hopefully increasing our scouting within the uk and scotland. Players like sean ledger are the way forward. We will be back in the big time soon if the bed wetting chav's would just lay off and give the youngsters a chance.

We're only ever a Gibbo whim from going out of business anyway.

We continually make losses, despite the fantastic backing of our fans and from an economic point of view he would probably be best to cut off that particular arm.

I quite like Paylor (and understand his position in terms of getting on with the club) but his writing at times is as badly researched as some of Bernie's work.
