Do they still use the mallet?, thought it must something cushy if you have the energy to walk up the slag heap.

[:O]

Not fit enough? It's only a hill, not a mountain.

Good luck with working on it, keep it up mate.

Will get there before the end of the year. Anyone know best place to park to climb up to Captain Cooks?

Yes the car park at the bottom, just drive through Great Ayton and you'll come to it.[^]

Thanks Tommy, drove as far as the station once but wasn't sure I was going the right way so turned back. Have a terrible sense of direction.

Thanks Brandon, I know where I am going now. Will post pics from the top once I get there! Should be at the end of this month. I love Roseberry and Great Ayton. I used to go there as a child to visit my uncle who painted. It was the very first painting I did back in the 80's. More people look at Roseberry than anything else on the art site I use.

Hi jan thanks for the info on your classes unfortunalty I will be working during class time-( Yes! I do work sometimes)!

If you go up Roseberry you'll get some spectacular views of Teesside, But to me the best are from around Carlton and Cringle moor.

I have been up Roseberry loads of times but not for a few years.

Is the car park at Gribdale Gate safe to leave your car or is it still a target for rogues?

jannizart Posted on 10/08/2009 13:02

Hi Holgate, got your message and have mailed you a reply.
I agree with you about the view from Carlton, another of my favourite places especially after lunch at the Blackweell Ox. I have some photos taken from Carlton on the site but you probably seen them. I also like the view you get across Teesside as you come down from Seamer
Will ask around about the car park at Gribdale. Not worth it if the car gets damaged.

Hillwalker Posted on 10/08/2009 13:18

We've parked at Gribdale at least once a month for years and havn't had any problems - only a bunch of rowdies having a drink & barbie with music blaring. If you're still unsure park next to the phone box in Kildale and take the Cleveland way up to Captain Cooks.

jannizart Posted on 10/08/2009 13:43

Thanks Hillwalker, I will look at the map for Kildale. I don't do a lot of walking so I will see how much further that way would be for me. We will be going on a weekday so Gribdale should be fine.

I went from the car park near the Kings Head at Newton. No problems there. Longer walk as well.

Oh and unfortunately I never made it to Petch's, mainly cause it was a Sunday and I wanted to get up and back.
Had a mint Cornetto and necked a can of cola and did it from Newton Under Roseberry without water!
