I'm glad he wont be our 'Midfield Linchpin', mainly because he was terrible last season.
Most people on here, before he got injured, were gutted that he was going to be playing for us next season. His leg going again is a blessing in diguise.

Because it was a very stupid comment to make.
The_263 Posted on 30/07/2009 16:57
Will his shallow girlfriend dump him now?
MightyDuck Posted on 30/07/2009 16:58
do you both think he is a good midfielder?
London_Boro Posted on 30/07/2009 17:01
He's not a midfielder though is he. He's been played out of position.
Evil Posted on 30/07/2009 17:01
Well he did a job for us.
He certainly isnt our best midfielder.
But calling a career threatening injury a blessing in disguise is poor form.

When I heard Matthew Bates had signed a new 4 year contract as a key player I put my foot through the radio and sent Southgate the bill!
MightyDuck Posted on 30/07/2009 17:02
hardly. the plan seemed to be to play him centre mid.
MightyDuck Posted on 30/07/2009 17:03
he's hardly going to be signing on though is he
rob_fmttm Posted on 30/07/2009 17:03
He played part of 2 pre season games in central defence. He played part of 1 game in midfield.
Kevlar Posted on 30/07/2009 17:08
When I heard on the news that a Boro player had a career threatening injury, I was just about to put my foot through the TV and send Southgate the bill!
It went on to exclaim it was Matthew Bates, the average midfield/centre back of the golden youth team of yesteryear.
I shrugged and changed the channel to eurotrash.
The_263 Posted on 30/07/2009 17:13
West Ham will now have to wipe away their disappoinment in his injury and use their millions identifying a new midfield dynamo to lure.

There is some grade A penis on this thread.
PoetLaureate Posted on 30/07/2009 17:39
I would never call myself a Bates fan and fail to see why people regard him as a good player in any position but I wish him well for the future and I do hope he makes a quick return
Jonny_Ingbar Posted on 30/07/2009 19:03
After reading some of these posts I wonder why some people bother following Boro.
Lauric06 Posted on 30/07/2009 19:05
Agree with Jonny.
Wether you like him as a player or not you cant help but feel for him!!!
